Flash Marriage: My Penniless Billionaire Husband
Chapter 169: Give Me What You’ve Hidden
Christopher put his phone away.
Seeing his grave expression, Janice immediately asked, "What’s wrong?"
Christopher said, "Nanny Daisy just said that Grandpa’s cough was getting worse, but he refused to go to the hospital. I have to go over there."
"Then I’ll go with you." Janice said.
Christopher nodded.
As soon as the two got to the car, Janice’s phone rang. It was her colleague, who said that something had happened at the station and asked her to return immediately.
After receiving the call, Janice apologized embarrassedly.
"Hubby, I may not be able to go with you. I’ve to return to the TV station."
Christopher replied, "Go ahead. I’ll stay with Grandpa."
"Then you have to persuade Grandpa to get treated" Janice said guiltily.
"Yes."
The two of them returned to their own car.
Christopher drove to Old Mr. Allson’s house, while Janice returned to the TV station.
As soon as she walked into the news department, Amy stepped forward and said, "Janice, you’re finally back. The station’s hotline has been ringing off the hook."
Amy had mentioned earlier in her call, that the adoption information she broadcasted worked. Many people called to inquire.
"Then did you get their details?" Janice asked affectionately.
Amy said, "Don’t worry. We’ve already recorded their details and promised they can come by to claim the dogs at three p.m. We still have 20 minutes to prepare."
Janice nodded and brought some dog food to the reception room.
Before she left, she had specially arranged for the dogs to be in the reception room.
When she went in, a few dogs jumped around and surrounded her.
Janice opened the paper bag for the dogs to eat. Thinking that Christopher should have arrived at his grandfather’s house, she called him.
Over on his side, Christopher entered the villa and Nanny Daisy greeted him. "Sir, you’re finally here."
"Where’s Grandpa?" Christopher asked.
"The old master is in the room. He is coughing so hard that he is out of breath. I
asked him to go to the hospital, but he wouldn’t go." Nanny Daisy said worriedly.
Hearing this, Christopher marched towards the bedroom.
Sure enough, as soon as he arrived at the door, he heard a violent cough coming from inside.
He hurriedly pushed the door open and entered.
"Grandpa."
When he saw Christopher, Old Mr. Allson was half lying on the bed and quickly hid the handkerchief he used to cough into.
"Coming."
Although he hid it very carefully, he couldn’t hide it from Christopher. He stepped forward and said, "Grandpa, what are you hiding? Give it to me."
Old Mr. Allson looked at his outstretched hand and felt slightly guilty, but he still pretended innocent and said, "You little boy, what are you talking about?"
He deliberately reprimanded in a loud voice.
Christopher ignored his grandfather’s reproach and went straight to the point. "Give me what you’ve hidden."
His attitude was very tough.
Old Mr. Allson’s expression was a little unnatural but he did not move.
Seeing this, Christopher reached out and snatched it from his hand.
Old Mr. Allson realized that he could not hide the handkerchief so he handed it over.
Christopher opened the handkerchief and took a look. When he saw the bloodstains on it, his heart suddenly tightened. When he looked at his grandfather again, his face was extremely serious.
Knowing his grandson’s temper, Old Mr. Allson replied awkwardly, "It’s nothing. It’s just that I’m coughing a little too much, so it’s inevitable that there’s a little blood."
"Is this a little?" Christopher did not bother to say much but called Rob to make arrangements at the hospital.
He hung up the call, but Old Mr. Allson refused to cooperate.
As the grandfather and grandson were in a deadlock, there was a call from Janice, and Christopher answered.
...
"Hubby, how is Grandpa?"
Janice’s voice came from the other end of the line.
Christopher frowned at Old Mr. Allson, who was lying on the bed, and said, "Grandpa is not willing to cooperate. I am trying to persuade him."
Hearing Christopher’s words, Janice paused and said, "Then give the phone to Grandpa. I’ll try."
Hearing this, Christopher nodded. "Okay."
Then he handed the phone over. "Janice want to talk to you."
When Old Mr. Allson heard that it was his granddaughter-in-law calling him, he glared at his grandson with some resentment and reached out to take the phone. Instantly, his expression softened.
"Janice."
Janice seemed to have said something, to which Old Mr. Allson repeated "okay" a few times and handed the phone back to Christopher.
Christopher took the phone in confusion, put it to his ear, and heard Janice saying, "Hubby, Grandpa has promised me he will go to the hospital."
Hearing this, Christopher subconsciously looked at Old Mr. Allson and saw that he had gotten out of bed and was wearing clothes.
He was stunned for a moment and then asked, "How did you do it?"
Janice just chuckled, "Of course I have my ways, hurry up and go."
Christopher did not continue to ask. He put away the phone and was about to help his grandpa walk, but Old Mr. Allson dodged him and said, "I can walk by myself."
As he said, he proudly walked to the door with his walking stick.
Christopher couldn’t help frowning. He followed behind him, full of curiosity about what Janice had said.
After hanging up the phone, Janice began to prepare for the three o’clock dog-owner reunion.
She memorized the characteristics of each dog in advance so that when someone shared some characteristic, she could quickly and accurately know which dog it was.
At three p.m., there was indeed a long line in front of the TV station.
At the back of the crowd, two men wearing caps stood furtively.
"Did you see clearly? Is that woman the busybody from last night?" One of the men lowered the brim of his cap and whispered.
The other looked at Janice and nodded. "Yes, it’s her."
"Very well, she dares to ruin my plan, I’m going to teach her a lesson."
As they spoke, they were about to walk forward to join the queue when suddenly, two uniformed policemen walked over.
"Wait, there are policemen over there."
"Let’s go. I’ll let her go today."
As soon as they left, Sophie got out of her car.
She stood at the door and her gaze landed on Janice. Then, her gaze landed on the two policemen who were walking over and she sneered coldly.
"Looks like there’s a good show happening."
At this time, Janice was sitting at the front of the line, assisting Amy in asking each person about their missing dog’s characteristics.
She was approached by the two policemen. "Excuse me, are you Janice Gladwell?"
Janice slowly raised her head and was stunned when she saw the two policemen standing before her.
"I am Janice Gladwell. You two are."
Only then did the two policemen show their credentials.
"Miss Gladwell, we suspect that you may be involved in dog theft. Please come with us."
At these words, everyone looked over. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Janice was briefly stunned before she asked, "Is there a misunderstanding?"
...
"Misunderstanding? Then what’s going on with this long line here?"
Hearing those words, Janice immediately explained, "It’s like this. When I was taking a stroll by the lake last night, I bumped into two men who were stealing dogs. I rescued these dogs from their hands."
"Oh? So, you did something righteous."
"I won’t call myself righteous, but I just did what I should do."
"According to what you said, we have to present you with an award."
Janice could tell the policeman was being sarcastic.
She thought and asked, "I want to ask, how did you conclude that I stole the dogs?"
The policeman said, "Recently, our police station has received many cases of missing dogs, and you publicly released information about the dogs."
Janice found these words quite laughable.
"Excuse me, if I really stole them, why would I be so stupid as to publicly announce in the media?"
"That’s hard to say. Sometimes, some criminal motives cannot be deduced by common sense."
At this moment, Janice knew that there’s no point in explaining any further. Furthermore, the people in the queue had already formed doubts, and if this continued, it might affect the television station’s reputation instead.
She said, "Okay, I’ll go with you."
Anyway, she was innocent.
She turned around to explain the situation to Amy and left with the two policemen.
Sophie stood there and watched everything unfold. When she saw Janice leave with the police, she quickly turned around and got into her car.
Through the window, she saw Janice getting into the police car. After the police car had left, she curled her lips in satisfaction and drove off.
In the police station.
Janice sat there and explained to the police, "I really met those dogs last night when I was walking by the lake. At that time, there were two men sneaking around. I went over to the dogs when I heard them barking."
The policeman countered, "Can a woman physically win against two men?"
His words were full of sarcasm.
Janice suddenly recalled. "Of course not, but my husband can. He was also present
at the time."
"In that case, call your husband and ask him to come over." The policeman asked.
Janice started to nod in agreement, but she remembered that Christopher was currently accompanying his grandfather in the hospital. She said, "Let me call and ask."
As she spoke, she called Christopher and put it on loudspeaker at the police’s request.
In the hospital, Christopher was standing in the corridor facing the closed door of an examination room. His expression was very grave and the doctor’s words rang in his ears.
"Mr. Bateman, Old Mr. Allson had been diagnosed with cancer half a year ago. At that time, we suggested that he should be hospitalized. Now, the cancer cells in his lungs have spread. I’m afraid it’s a little tricky."
So, his grandfather was already ill before his return?
But why did he hide it from him?
No wonder his grandfather had been urging him to get married. It turned out that he had already known that he was sick.
However, Christopher hadn’t noticed it at all.
Damn it!
The more Christopher thought about it, the more upset he felt.
At this time, his phone suddenly rang. He took it out and glanced at it. Seeing that it was Janice calling, he collected himself and answered the call.
"Hello..."
His voice sounded a little tired.
Janice’s heart clenched. She even forgot the purpose of his call and asked, "What’s wrong? Is Grandpa..."
