Fate's Slave - Shadow Slave X Honkai Star Rail
Chapter 550: Ghostbusters (III)
"Hey guys, Lil Gui here with another livestream! Today, we’re going ghost hunting in the spooky night of the Xianzhou Luofu~"
Guinaifen was a young woman with a slender, yet athletic build, her light-orange hair gathered in an off-center ponytail. She was wearing a colorful tunic of reds, whites, and greens, and slung a wooden staff over her shoulder with one hand, while the other held onto a selfie stick she used to record her and the three behind her. Her orange eyes glimmered with boundless enthusiasm as she talked to the camera.
"But that’s not even the best part! Today, we have a special guest with us... an illustrious hero of the Luofu, leader of the Abyss Watchers, and a passenger of the legendary Astral Express... the Starkiller himself!"
As she tilted her phone, Sunny entered its frame, walking around in circles as he scratched his chin.
"Huohuo, Huohuo, Huohuo, Huohuo... nope, not ringing any bells."
"...Mister Tail, I’m not that forgettable, right?"
The Heliobus snickered as he whirled around the curled up form of his pathetic host.
"Well, a wuss like you wouldn’t be particularly memorable."
Sunny sent Tail a scathing glance.
"Shut up, filthy ghost. You and your kind should go back to where you came from!"
"Watch your mouth, pipsqueak!"
Huohuo peeked out from her fetal position on the ground.
"Heliobus, not ghost."
"Potato, tomato."
"T—That’s not even the phrase..."
Sunny paused, a strange look appearing on his face.
"Wait a minute... a wuss who commands a ghost, with her name literally being two Huos, and the number two..."
He snapped his fingers, a self-satisfied expression crawling over him.
"You’re H2O!"
Huohuo gazed at him for a moment, before dryly laughing at her own misfortune.
"Just kill me already..."
Guinaifen sent the three of them a strange look, before returning to the camera with an awkward smile.
"...You know what they say! The more eccentric an Awakened, the more badass they are... oh, and we have Sushang here too, I guess."
"Y—You guess?"
A blur of brown suddenly shoved its way into the frame before Guinaifen could recover from her own introduction, nearly knocking the phone sideways in the process. The newcomer leaned in far too close to the camera with the kind of determined enthusiasm usually only seen in people moments away from making a terrible decision.
Sushang was a young woman with long chestnut-brown hair cascading behind her in twintails tied together with pale ribbons and ornamental pins, the loose strands around her face bouncing wildly as she hurried to squeeze herself into view. Bright amber eyes gleamed with earnest energy beneath soft bangs, carrying absolutely none of the caution or self-preservation one would expect from someone wandering around a haunted district at night.
Her outfit mixed martial practicality with decorative elegance — white and violet fabrics layered beneath black armor-like plating adorned with gold accents that curved around her waist and chest in intricate patterns. Detached sleeves of pale yellow draped around her arms while one of her legs remained covered by a dark stocking embroidered with silver markings, creating an asymmetrical appearance that somehow still looked strangely dignified despite the fact that she was currently half-climbing over Guinaifen to avoid being cropped out of the shot. A massive sword dragged against the floor, its presence completely at odds with the cheerful and slightly airheaded expression on her face.
"Hello... defenseless civilians behind the camera? Sushang’s the name, and hunting ghosts is my game— did you see that?!"
She fumbled around with a flashlight, almost dropping it before being able to switch it on. Guinaifen, hoping to catch some footage, flipped her phone’s camera, revealing... absolutely nothing. Well, besides the abandoned mansion they were supposed to deal with, that is.
Guinaifen sent Sushang a dry look, before turning back towards Sunny and Huohuo, both wearing an alarmed look on her face.
"So, Huohuo, our resident ghost expert, have an idea on how to catch this fiend?"
The nervewracked girl shivered as she glanced at the mansion, muttering half-convincingly:
"Heliobus, not ghost... I can somewhat sense them, though."
Sunny glanced at her for a moment, but did not comment, instead glaring at Tail.
"I’m always watching, you rodent..."
Tail grumbled some profanities. Meanwhile, Huohuo timidly asked:
"Can I stay in the back, please? Wait, actually, maybe the middle is best. Better yet, can I go home? But it’s so dark, what if something jumps out to eat me?!"
Sunny sent the girl a look of disbelief, before stepping up to the mansion’s front door with stubborn steps.
"Unbelievable..."
Sliding the door open, he casually stepped in, disappearing in the dark corridors immediately. Sushang glanced between Huohuo and the door for a moment, before asking:
"...Aren’t we supposed to follow?"
Guinaifen gripped her staff a little tighter as she smiled at the camera.
"No risk... no reward...?"
With that, the two of them ventured into the mansion... leaving Huohuo and Tail behind. She sent a hopeful look to her ghastly Heliobus companion.
"We don’t have to go inside, right?"
Tail scowled, before pushing her with his tiny, tail-sized body towards the door.
"And have me die of boredom? As if!"
