Farming with Entries: From Lord to Emperor
Chapter 747 - 347: The Legend Is Only the Beginning
...
...
The library is located on the west side behind the main hall.
Apart from the Frost Iron Guard responsible for guarding, there are also scholars organizing the books inside.
Seeing Luo De and Atrey approaching, they immediately knelt down to salute,
"Your Majesty."
"I’m no longer the Empress."
Atrey said calmly, "This is Duke Luo De, the new master here."
"Lord Duke." The scholars respectfully saluted.
"Rise."
Luo De waved his hand and said calmly, "Everything here will remain the same. Continue your work as usual without overthinking things."
These scholars know the library better than anyone, and keeping them here is most appropriate.
"Thank you, Lord Duke."
The scholars responded and stood respectfully to the sides.
The library is vast, stretching as far as the eye can see.
Inside, rows of wooden bookshelves stand, much like the library of Luo De’s previous life.
The difference, however, is that the books are placed somewhat casually, with many scrolls piled together.
Looking at the disordered scene, Luo De asked, "Do you still rely on memory to find these books?"
"Yes, Lord Duke."
One scholar, dressed in a gray robe with a head full of white hair, stepped forward and said, "I have served here for nineteen years. I can find you any book as long as it’s recorded in the registry."
The gray-robed scholar added with a touch of pride.
But Luo De frowned and asked, "What if you were to die?"
The gray-robed scholar’s face changed dramatically, frightened to the point of kneeling on the ground,
"Lord Duke, I have never done anything to offend you, please spare my life!"
"You’re overthinking it. I’m not going to kill you."
Luo De said helplessly, "You must be about fifty years old now. If you fall ill or pass away one day, who will help me find books then?"
"My students are learning, and they will soon know every book here." The gray-robed scholar hurriedly responded.
"If they fall ill or die, everything here will still come to a halt."
Luo De gently shook his head and commanded, "But if each book is cataloged, that won’t happen."
"What do you mean..." The gray-robed scholar looked up at Luo De in confusion.
"Categorize all the books systematically, such as in herbalism, history, finance, etiquette, etc."
"Then assign a sequential number to each category, and also number and record the books within."
Luo De, seeing the scholars’ bewildered expressions, instructed, "Prepare pen and paper, and bring a book over."
The gray-robed scholar did not dare delay and quickly urged those beside him to prepare paper and ink and brought over a history of the Empire.
"If the sequence for history is Number One, then the serial number for this book on the history of the Empire can be 011."
Luo De said while writing on the parchment, "But this subject will have many categories, and there are many books within the same category, so you can number it as 001-0000001."
"You must record the book title, serial number, summary, location, author, and such information in the registry."
Luo De pointed at the bookshelves, "Also, these bookshelves need to be numbered, so the book’s location in the registry can be filled out with the shelf’s serial number."
"Remember, all books must be placed in the order of their serial numbers."
"This way, just knowing the book’s title will allow quick location of the book without anyone having to rely on memory." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Luo De finished speaking calmly, and the scholars couldn’t help but widen their eyes.
"Lord Duke, you, you are truly wise!"
The gray-robed scholar praised, "You have taught me a new way of managing, thank you very much!"
The gray-robed scholar bowed deeply to Luo De.
Luo De remained calm, not showing any pride from the scholars’ amazement.
This was all very common in his previous life, and books were also organized in this manner in the Wizard Tower.
It is only considered advanced here.
Moreover, Luo De thought that, over the years, someone must have thought of this management approach, but no one was willing to implement it.
After all, if everyone could find the books, the importance of these scholars would be greatly reduced.
As for the Royal Family members, with these scholars serving them, they naturally wouldn’t consider optimizing the management system.
But Luo De couldn’t tolerate backwardness and ignorance.
"Additionally, translate those books with strange languages into the Empire’s common language and record them again."
"For rare volumes, at least make five copies."
As Luo De spoke, he walked to the bookshelf, picked up a scroll, "Label the upper right corner of these scrolls with their names and numbers, don’t place them so haphazardly."
"Yes, Lord Duke!"
The gray-robed scholar hurriedly promised, "Rest assured, we will handle everything as you instructed."
"Hmm, take care of it quickly, and I will inspect it myself." Luo De warned.
"We’ll start addressing it right away!"
The gray-robed scholar bowed, turned, and began organizing.
"I’m suddenly starting to believe that everything my uncle said is true."
Atrey crossed her arms in front of her chest, leaning against the bookshelf, observing Luo De,
"What you see and think is really different from us."
"If I were like you, I would have starved to death in the Northern Wasteland by now."
Luo De laughed and waved his hand, "Where’s the thing I asked for?"
"Follow me."
Atrey quickly walked through the rows of bookshelves to the very back.
An iron door blocked their way.
"Inside is the Emperor’s private library."
Atrey said as she approached the iron door, taking out two keys and joining them together to insert into the lock of the iron door.
With a click, Atrey opened the iron door, revealing a staircase leading downward.
