Chapter 455: Macabre Love

They laughed together, their laughter mingling with the screams of the homunculi finishing off the last survivors.

"What do we do now?" asked Lucifer.

Aeshma looked at the devastated landscape, her iridescent eyes shining with a red glow.

"Now, we continue," she said. "We sow fear, we sow death. We get closer to our goal." She turned toward him, a smile on her lips. "And we enjoy the journey."

Lucifer nodded, a gleam of determination in his eyes. "Then let’s go."

He stood up and held out his hand to Aeshma. She took it, and they moved away from the ruined village, leaving behind the homunculi who continued their macabre work.

"Have you thought about what you will do when everything is over?" asked Aeshma as they walked.

Lucifer thought. "I don’t know. I have never really thought about an after. All that matters is being with you."

Aeshma smiled, her eyes softening. "You are a romantic, Lucifer."

Then she kissed him.

...

The months had passed... Village after village, the two lovers had sown terror in their wake. Aeshma’s homunculi had swelled their ranks, while Lucifer had become a living legend, a nightmare whose exploits the storytellers whispered about around campfires.

Their nights were filled with passion, their days with blood. They had become inseparable, bound by a pact that went beyond the understanding of mere mortals. For Lucifer, Aeshma had become much more than an ally or a lover. She was an obsession, a vital necessity, a presence he could no longer do without.

He loved her with a love so deep that it was becoming unhealthy. This love was not the kind a man bears for a woman. And Aeshma sometimes looked at him with an expression no one else had ever seen on her face, a softness that contrasted with the cruelty of their acts.

While they had stopped on a hill overlooking a village they had just reduced to ashes, Aeshma sat on the grass, her legs crossed, and watched Lucifer finish off the last survivors. He was magnificent in his rage. His silver hair floated in the wind, his sword spun, his body, sculpted by years of training, moved with deadly grace.

"I love you, Lucifer," she murmured, her voice barely audible.

He turned around, having heard her despite the distance. His blue eyes met hers, and a smile lit up his bloodied face. He dropped his sword, walked toward her, and knelt before her, his blood-covered hands resting on her knees.

"I love you too," he said, his voice deep and hoarse.

She smiled, her fingers caressing his silver hair.

"You are a strange man, Lucifer. A human who loves a demoness."

"A human who has found his forbidden fruit," he corrected.

Their lips met, and the world around them seemed to fade away. The flames, the screams, the bodies, everything disappeared. There was only them, two mad beings, two damned souls, two lovers who had found love at the heart of chaos.

Later, they decided to go to Tenebris.

...

The continent of Tenebris was not yet this continent full of demonic mana but just a vast forest.

Lucifer and Aeshma set up their base there. An obsidian palace rose at the heart of the continent, its black towers piercing the sky like stone fingers.

It was there that Aeshma began her experiments.

Her laboratory was a vast room in the basement of the palace, filled with glass containers, ancient books, and creatures suspended in cloudy liquids. She spent entire days there, sometimes weeks, studying the properties of demonic magic, trying to create new forms of life, weapons, tools of destruction.

Lucifer often joined her, sitting in a corner of the room, watching her work. He loved seeing her like this, focused, passionate, her chestnut hair tied in a messy bun, her hands covered in philosopher’s stone powder, her eyes shining with an almost mad glow.

"What are you making?" he asked one day, approaching her.

"An improved homunculus. Faster, stronger, more resistant."

"Why are you doing this?"

Aeshma looked at him, a smile on her lips. "To protect you, Lucifer. So that no one can ever separate us."

He approached, placing his hands on her shoulders. "I don’t need homunculi to protect me."

"I know." She turned toward him, her eyes plunging into his. "You only need me..."

The experiments of the most powerful Alchemist had unexpected side effects. The demonic magic she released spread into the earth, into the water, into the air. The fauna of Tenebris began to mutate, to transform into nightmarish creatures.

The region became a true dead zone, a place where only the strongest, the craziest, the most desperate could survive.

Lucifer and Aeshma did not care. Tenebris had become their kingdom, their sanctuary. And soon, they would share it with others.

Aeshma founded the organization Spectrum.

The room was immense, dominated by a bed of black silk and furs. Blue torches lit the stone walls, and a large window offered a view of the desolate lands of Tenebris. Aeshma was lying against him, her head on his chest, her fingers tracing patterns on his bare skin.

"The gates of the abyss..." asked Lucifer, his fingers caressing her hair. "Why do you want to open them?"

Aeshma remained silent for a long moment. Her fingers stopped moving, and she let out a sigh.

"I cannot tell you yet, Lucifer." She raised her eyes toward him, her irises shifting from golden to red. "In this world, there are beings even more powerful than the angels or the demons. Beings who control everything, who manipulate everything, who decide the fate of all."

"Beings like...?"

She placed her hand on his cheek.

Lucifer looked at her, his blue eyes plunging into hers.

"I trust you," he said finally. "Even if you cannot tell me everything."

They remained lying down for a long moment, pressed against each other, listening to the wind howling outside the palace walls. The homunculi patrolled the corridors, their steps silent and regular. The demonic magic pulsed in the walls, in the ground, in the air, impregnating every stone of the building.

"All that remains is to consolidate our organization," said Lucifer, his voice deep. "To make it stronger, bigger. Then we will find where that dark elf, Konstantine, is hiding."
