Chapter 91: Divine Providence

Garen looked around at his group of mercenaries. They were still eating, scattered on the ground near their tents. He had lied to his boss, saying he was going for a walk.

Ardeth did not think much about it. His other men had done the same. He told Garen to be cautious. If he got attacked, he should run back immediately. If he could not run, he should make sure that even if he was robbed, he came back with his life.

But none of them were too concerned. The troublemakers were either resting or still deciding how to handle the strictness of the Morvath family.

Garen walked away as if he was just passing through the scattered mini-camps. He moved slowly. He nodded at a few people. He stopped once to look at a group playing cards. When he was far enough, he ducked behind a large rock and changed his outer clothes. He pulled a different jacket over his shoulders and wrapped a dirty cloth around his neck.

Then he doubled back toward the Morvath family camp.

He saw the Level Three in full armor. The man still stood in the same location. His posture had not changed. His visor faced forward. He had not moved a single muscle since the night before.

Garen approached slowly. He kept his hands visible. He kept his head slightly lowered.

"My Lord," he said respectfully. "I am here to speak with the miss. I have information that she might want."

The Level Three ignored him.

Garen waited. He wondered if he should just enter. But he thought it would not hurt to wait and see.

Finally, after a few seconds, the man’s visor turned down toward him.

"Wait."

That was all he said. Then his visor returned to its previous position.

Garen stood there. The morning sun was warm on his back. He could hear voices from inside the camp. People moving. Crates being stacked. Somewhere, a hammer hit a nail.

After a few minutes, a woman came to meet him. She was a servant. Gray hair. Tired eyes. The same woman from the morning meeting who had asked about her family.

"Please follow me," she said. She gestured for him to come.

Garen followed her into the camp.

The difference was immediate. The ground was cleaner. The tents were arranged in neat rows. Paths had been marked with stones. People moved with purpose, not chaos. It looked like a real settlement, not a temporary hideout.

Most of the mercenaries and servants seemed to be loitering around. Waiting. Watching.

Suddenly, the servant paused. She turned around to face him.

"I hope you are not here to waste Lady Talia’s time," she said. Her voice was calm, but her eyes were hard.

"No," Garen answered. "I have information about Jack."

The woman, Sorah, studied his face for a moment. Then she nodded.

She turned and continued walking. Garen followed close behind.

As they continued moving the came upon Jack buried in the ground.

Suddenly Garen began laughing madly drawing the attention of everyone.

He laughed so hard as he pointed at Jack’s head protruding from the ground that he began to cough.

Jack finally opened his eyes to see what was soo funny... After all he had been buried for so long that people had begun to ignore him completely.

He looked up with the little strength he had and he couldn’t recognize the person but he was certain he knew said person from the voice but his mind was too fuzzy to place rhem accurately.

"Hahahahaha Hahahahaha..... Don’t tell me you don’t recognize me?" Garen said.... He seemed to happy with Jack situation that everyone was raising an eye brow at the weird person.

But Garen didn’t seem to care about the weird look Saron and everyone else was giving him.

He hurriedly removed his disguise.

At first Jack was still confused until his eyes finally widened as it clicked.

"Garen what are you doing here?" Jack asked lightly.

"Of course... Why else but to bring evidence of your crimes." Garen laughed.

"What...?" Jack asked confused.

At this point his laugh had turned maniac that people were distancing themselves from him.

But did he care?

No.

"Ever since that stunt that you pulled that caused my sister’s death and crippled me... I have been tracking you." He began.

"Unfortunately for me you were too good at hiding but given the number of people you have screwed over in your short life... I couldn’t even be surprised."

"Imagine my surprise when you came to meet us in the bar a few days ago."

"Granted I recorded you as you spoke granted it was to find plot holes in whatever you told us."

"But unfortunately I found nothing... I have been sad for the past few days thinking you slipped my hand again but the universe decided to grant me divine providence for all my trouble."

"Do you know what they did to people that snuck into this camp last night?" Garen asked although he didn’t wait for an answer.

"At the barest minimum... They were ripped apart... If only you could see the pain and horror in their faces."

"Now what do you think would happen to a traitor.... I will leave you to imagine."

Garen stood up and patted himself down removing whatever dust from his body although the wide smile didn’t leave his face.

"I am sorry for my uncouthly display miss please continue leading the way." Garen said to Sorah still with the his wide smile.

She nodded as she understood his weird happiness so she didn’t question him.

Eventually they made there way to what seemed to be the command tent at the very back.

But she did not lead him to the tent... Instead they stopped a few metres away.

"Just wait here... Once Miss Talia comes out do not... I repeat do not go closer for any reason... Do you understand?"

Garen nodded happily not caring much about such minor condition.

(A.N.: Don’t worry guys I haven’t forgotten the Chapter I owe... I will try to send it when I can. )
