Chapter 515 - 121: Enchanting Chant of Brahma
On this day, the area surrounding Da Kong Temple was teeming with people.
The temple gates had not yet opened, yet many from Yizhou City had flocked to this place to listen to the Esoteric Master from Xiling, who had come from afar to preach.
Some, after listening to the Esoteric Master’s sermon, attained enlightenment and understanding.
Some, upon hearing the master’s chants, were healed from severe and incurable illnesses, regaining their health.
Others were cured of chronic leg ailments, and there were even those who became pregnant after listening to the scriptures in the temple, with rumors growing increasingly exaggerated and believers numerous.
Da Kong Temple’s incense offerings never dwindled, and its reputation grew ever more prosperous, much to the delight of the monks.
Once the temple gates opened, the crowd that had been waiting outside surged forward like a tidal wave, rushing in.
It was said that those who received the first incense would have the chance to receive a blessing from the Esoteric Master up close!
Outside the temple, two men and a woman dressed as swordsmen, wearing azure robes with cloud-like and raindrop patterns on the cuffs, watched the crazed crowd with varied expressions.
"Senior Brother Guo, do you think this Esoteric Master is as miraculous as the legends claim?"
The speaker was a young woman of seventeen or eighteen, in the prime of youth, with long, raven-black hair tied behind her head, clear and lively eyes, skin like snow, and delicate features. She looked at the man in front of her with a hint of curiosity and asked.
This Senior Brother Guo was older, in his thirties, composed and steady. He merely smiled and shook his head upon hearing the question.
"Hmph!"
Another young swordsman in his twenties had a cold demeanor and rarely spoke, simply saying, "All those divine powers and golden bodies are just tricks to fool people. Junior Sister Lin, you needn’t take it seriously."
Some passersby, upon hearing this, glanced over with disapproval.
Were it not for the fact that the three carried an unusual air of dignity, with swords on their backs, making them seem like figures not to be trifled with, someone might have already picked a fight with them!
Among the crowd, some from the Jianghu recognized the three’s identity and chuckled, "So it’s the swordsmen from the Ba Mountain Sword Sect speaking with such boldness."
"Naturally, anyone who dares to speak like that must have the strength to back it up. If I’m not mistaken, that should be Luo Qi, the seventeenth on the Human Ranking, known as ’Ba Mountain Cloud Sword’?"
The young swordsman remained expressionless, simply nodding in acknowledgment.
"Oh?"
The initial person said with a strange tone, "Since you’re a master on the Human Ranking as well, why not have a contest with Master Zagu? Let’s see if those tricks truly fool anyone."
Luo Qi coldly responded, "Since I’m here today, I might as well test it!"
"Agreed!"
The person, with a gleeful look, cheerfully clasped hands and said, "We brothers eagerly await to see Young Hero Luo’s skills!"
Lin Ling’Er furrowed her brows and said, "Senior Brother Luo, that person is deliberately provoking you, we don’t need to pay him any attention."
Luo Qi replied, "Junior Sister Lin, don’t worry. This monk from Xiling has harmed not a few women, I’ve long wanted to face him!"
Lin Ling’Er said, "I’m not worried about you, but Master Zagu has deep connections to the Buddhist Sect. If you lose, it would be embarrassing for our Sword Sect; if you win, it might offend Da Kong Temple."
Though Luo Qi was the senior brother, having been spoken to by Lin Ling’Er, he fell silent.
His eyes occasionally fell on Lin Ling’Er, as if wanting to say something.
But Lin Ling’Er never looked at him, her gaze always on Senior Brother Guo, as she asked, "Senior Brother Guo, don’t you agree?"
This Senior Brother Guo, with piercing eyes, was staring at someone in the crowd as if he hadn’t heard Lin Ling’Er speak.
"Those few are from the Ba Mountain Sword Sect."
"Indeed, leading them should be the ninth on the Earth Ranking, ’Rock Sword’ Guo Heng!"
"It’s said that not long ago, they visited the Drunken Immortal Tower in Jingzhou, seeking ’Young Master Yushan’ He Shiyao to retrieve the Night Rain Sword, but were turned away. Young Master He didn’t even see them and declared that the Jade Flute Fairy should come herself to take it."
"Guo Heng issued a challenge to He Shiyao, agreeing to settle it at the Martial Arts Assembly."
"Guo Heng is from the Guo Family, and He Shiyao showed no courtesy at all."
Among the crowd, some whispered about them.
Some who recognized Guo Heng from afar cupped their fists and greeted him.
"Senior Brother Guo?"
Lin Ling’Er reached out her small hand, tugged on Guo Heng’s sleeve, and softly called.
Guo Heng snapped out of his thoughts, withdrew his gaze, and said, "Oh, since we’re here, let’s go into Da Kong Temple and take a look."
"Senior Brother Guo, what happened just now?"
Lin Ling’Er followed Guo Heng’s gaze, only seeing a group of people entering Da Kong Temple, nothing out of the ordinary.
"It’s nothing."
Guo Heng shook his head.
Just now, amidst the crowd, a middle-aged man had glanced in their direction.
This man was tall, ruggedly featured, unkempt, wearing tattered hemp clothes, with rolled-up sleeves, and had no weapons on him, looking much like a laborer.
But with just one look between Guo Heng and this man, he knew this was a skilled expert!
The three followed the crowd into Da Kong Temple and soon reached the square near the Great Heroic Hall.
In the center, an altar of stacked stones was quite spacious, with a large, ancient bronze bell on it and a big drum nearby.
A young monk sat cross-legged atop it, wearing a dark red monk’s robe, with sharp facial angles, a straight nose, thick eyebrows, and deeply bright eyes that resembled glittering gems, brimming with endless wisdom.
This monk’s skin, under the morning sun, glowed with a hint of bronzed metallic luster, adding to his mystique.
Such a red robe was the mark of the Xiling Secret Sect.
The Vajra of Supreme Joy, Zagu!
Just by looking at this face and that aura, it was hard to associate him with the Demon Monk who harmed young girls.
At the moment, Zagu was chanting scriptures.
The sound of chanting echoed across the square, entering everyone’s ears clearly, even those in the corners could hear it clearly!
Guo Heng’s heart tensed.
With his Eight Meridian Passage inner strength cultivation, he could barely achieve something similar.
But that required the use of inner force. This Esoteric Monk, with his horizontally trained body, managed to produce such a sound through sheer vocal ability, indeed possessing some skill.
Moreover, this chanting seemed to have a mystical allure, making people unconsciously immerse themselves in it!
Guo Heng silently circulated his inner power, suppressing his bewildered state, and scanned the surroundings.
Among the crowd in the square, whether ordinary untrained people or some Jianghu martial artists, as the chanting continued, their expressions grew increasingly dazed, becoming absorbed and unable to extricate themselves.
Even Luo Qi and Lin Ling’Er were not spared!
"This must be a kind of Sound Attack Technique!"
Guo Heng was secretly alarmed.
Though it caused no harm, being subjected to such chanting for a long time would certainly affect one’s mental state.
Over time, they would develop admiration for Zagu, venerating him as a deity.
Guo Heng was about to awaken Luo Qi and Lin Ling’Er when his eyes inadvertently landed on someone, and he couldn’t help but be stirred.
It’s him!
The middle-aged man he had locked eyes with outside the temple earlier.
This man blended into the crowd inconspicuously.
Yet his eyes were clear, and with a look of disdain, he scratched his ear, clearly unaffected.
