Eternal Freedom's Ascension
Chapter 221: The Cinema
Kaiser took a look at her, then paused. Perhaps something was wrong with his perception today, but she looked brighter.
’Hm? Perhaps I haven’t been paying enough attention.’
Maya was dressed in a baby pink t-shirt, wearing a dark blue jean and a pair of pink crocs on her feet.
Paired with her eyeglasses and green eyes, she looked really adorable.
Kaiser turned to Iruca and said. "Well then, see you later."
The girl nodded absentmindedly, immediately turning to catch sight of her friends calling her.
The two parted quietly.
Kaiser approached Maya quietly, arriving by her side without a word.
It seemed she was trying to text him and know if he was still waiting.
He didn’t interrupt her, letting her hit the send button.
The phone vibrated in his pocket as he received the message.
Hearing the faint vibration, Maya looked up, only to find the person she was texting right by her side.
Her heart skipped a beat, startled.
"You..."
She smiled helplessly. He should have said something before approaching her like that.
"Good morning," Kaiser greeted, a faint, almost imperceptible smile forming on his lips.
Maya smiled back. "Good morning. Sorry I kept you waiting. I was trying to get some things cleaned up before I left the room."
Hearing no response from him, she looked back, realizing he was sizing her up. Strange, Kaiser didn’t usually do that.
As if sensing her confusion, Kaiser looked up and met her gaze.
"Your outfit looks good. It’s adorable."
"Ah...?"
Caught off guard, Maya couldn’t suppress the blush that appeared on her cheeks. Why was he suddenly complimenting her?
He answered the unasked question calmly. "A person’s dressing sometimes matter too. It should be acknowledged."
Maya blinked, tilting her head slightly.
Was he saying this because of their conversation days ago? Was this his expression of not being too focused on color?
’It’s strange.’
She thought, feeling a weird sensation in her belly. It felt like winged insects were flying about.
"Well, you’re right. But I don’t think you should go around acknowledging everyone’s dressing like that. It might be considered flirting."
Kaiser froze, his expression shifting slightly. However, he quickly grasped the meaning of her words and nodded.
"Flirting, I see. Thanks for the reminder."
Maya nodded, leading them out of the lobby. She felt like she had suddenly been thrown inside a novel where the male lead was an alien without standard communication skills and common sense.
Although in Kaiser’s case, it wasn’t that harsh, it still felt similar.
"Where are we going?"
Kaiser asked, his gaze falling on her as they walked.
The campus was lively again, though there was a shadow of the three-day attacks still lingering in the air.
However, with the limiters deactivated, students were now confident in dealing with any danger that came their way.
Maya hummed softly as she checked the school map.
"How about we go to the cinema first? I overheard that a mystery movie would be played over there this morning. It’d be a loss not to watch."
Kaiser contemplated it, then agreed. Watching a movie was fine. He didn’t really have any plan, anyway.
Feeling excited, the pink-haired girl eagerly led him to the Cinema. The place was mildly crowded, contrasting the quiet atmosphere of the library.
Maya’s brows furrowed. "Looks like we’ll have to queue before we can get tickets."
Kaiser said nothing, simply following behind her as they queued. Although he could bribe the officers and let them get tickets early, it was completely unnecessary.
Patience was a virtue.
After fifteen minutes or so, it was finally their turn. Kaiser attempted to pay for the tickets, but Maya turned him down, saying she could handle it.
He didn’t argue, allowing her to pay for them.
When they got into the movie room, they quickly found their seats, sitting next to each other. A popcorn was prepared in advance, resting steadily on their armrests.
Kaiser grabbed it and began eating, while Maya watched him curiously.
"Is there something on my face?"
He finally asked, turning to her with a curious look.
Maya chuckled. "Normally, you don’t eat the popcorn before a movie starts playing. Have you ever been to a cinema?"
Kaiser shook his head.
Although surprised, Maya quickly recalled his background and understood.
"Oh, considering you were brought up there, you probably didn’t go out with friends."
Kaiser nodded. "There was nothing like friends. Only family—extended family. It wasn’t boring, though."
Maya stared at the look on his face. He was still calm. There was no ripple of disappointment or sadness.
It seemed he wasn’t really at odds with being holed up in the clan for seventeen years of his life.
"Well, there’s a first time for everything, I guess."
Adjusting her glasses, she smiled at him.
Kaiser nodded, pouring more popcorn into his mouth.
The movie soon started. It was a movie about a war between two kingdoms. There were a lot of conspiracies, treason, treacherous deeds, morally gray decisions, and very emotional scenes.
In the end, the main character’s death brought about the resolution of the war and a pact between the two kingdoms.
Maya placed the empty popcorn bucket on the armrest, glancing at Kaiser. He was also looking at her.
"Well, what do you think about the plot?" He asked, curious.
The pink-haired girl leaned back into the chair, then spoke thoughtfully.
"Actually, the mystery factor is peak—one of the best I’ve seen. However, the ending is a bit cliche, though I can understand the creator’s desire not to make a ’happily ever after’. It was a common trope and wouldn’t land well."
Kaiser nodded, agreeing with her. She continued.
"However, the main character’s death is also cliche. The connection between his death and the resolution of the war was strong, but it wasn’t the best."
Curious, he asked her. "What would you have suggested for the ending?"
Maya smiled and looked at him. "The destruction of a kingdom. The main character already showed ambiguity about being a hero or a villain. So, winning the war for one kingdom while dooming the other would have been the best. Of course, that is only my suggestion. I don’t know if I’m right."
Kaiser stared at her silently, then smiled. "Your suggested ending is indeed more enticing than the one used."
He was really impressed. However, he turned to the side, wondering why the most famous couple in Class-E was also here.
And why was Kiera glaring at him?
