Era of Magic and Martial Arts
Chapter 482 - 466: What the Hell Is a Livestream?!
The collapsed wall pipes, spiderweb-like cracks madly spreading from a hole punched by a fist.
Stones fell, dust filled the air.
The figure of her father, Feng Ju, gradually came into focus—his mechanical arm emitting acrid white smoke, the Patrol Office uniform soaked in dark red blood, his left eye completely caked over with a scab.
But none of that caught her attention.
Her gaze was fixated on the camera on her father’s shoulder.
The camera lens, filled with cracks, was aimed straight at her, the recording indicator light already extinguished, yet that pitch-black lens seemed like a bottomless vortex, swallowing all her inner focus.
A chilling sensation crept up her spine; it was a completely different kind of cold from the one felt when facing the monster earlier.
The former was dark, gloomy, and damp cold, while the latter was an unsettling chill under the blazing sun.
"Yuhuai... It’s so good, you’re okay!"
Her father’s hoarse call pulled her back to reality.
Feng Yuhuai struggled to tear her gaze from the frightening camera and looked at Feng Ju’s bloodshot eyes.
The emotions swirling in those eyes were too intense for her to read, nor did she dare to.
"Dad..."
Her face showed genuine shock and confusion, her voice trembling:
"There are monsters in the school, in the sewers... They’re everywhere..."
Feng Yuhuai staggered forward, slowly walking towards Feng Ju like a frightened and helpless girl seeking the safety of her father’s arms.
"Don’t be afraid, Dad is here!"
Feng Ju instinctively nodded, but his muscles remained tense.
This vigilance was, of course, not directed at Feng Yuhuai, but rather at the possible lurking monsters in the sewers.
He quickly scanned the surroundings, his pupils suddenly contracting.
Not far behind Feng Yuhuai, a charred giant corpse lay silently.
The monster’s carbonized body stretched out numerous withered branches-like arms, looking terrifyingly spider-like even in death.
What was more horrifying was that the ends of those arms had five fingers eerily similar to human hands, quietly curled up at the moment.
"What the hell is that thing?"
A cold shiver ran up Feng Ju’s spine, a primal fear surged within him as if he were being watched by some unseen danger. His fist clenched instinctively:
"Yuhuai, those monsters chasing you down here... where are they?"
Feng Yuhuai followed Feng Ju’s line of sight to the charred spider corpse. "....."
Feng Yuhuai paused slightly, her eyes flickered, then she spoke in a timid voice:
"I’m... I’m not sure either..."
Her voice was as faint as a mosquito, carrying a slight tremor, as if genuinely frightened.
"There are other monsters in the sewers, those chasing me... were lured away by other monsters."
She carefully considered her words while stealthily observing her father’s expression, trying to glean some clue from his face.
However, inside, she felt tumultuous.
Her little finger unconsciously curled, hidden in her palm, quietly transforming into a crimson line
"What is going on, Father didn’t seem to know where those monsters went, he shouldn’t have seen me fighting with those monsters.
So what’s with the camera on him, did it record something it shouldn’t have?"
These thoughts caused a sudden spasm in her stomach.
Fear, anxiety, and suspicion surged in her abdomen, eventually all turning into a burning... hunger.
She stared at the blood seeping from the corner of her father’s brow, saliva continuously secreted between her teeth.
"When I heard the explosion, I thought it was a rescue...."
Feng Yuhuai took three steps to stand in front of Feng Ju, swallowing her saliva:
"I didn’t expect it was you, Dad!!"
If it were the father in her memory, this distance would be enough for Feng Yuhuai to take action.
But maybe due to a deep-rooted respect and love for her father, Feng Yuhuai wanted to give him a long-overdue hug.
She dared not meet her father’s gaze... eat him!
That would be too cruel, from this angle, Feng Yuhuai’s feelings for her father far surpass those for any of her girlfriends.
Feng Ju could die with a smile on his face.
Of course, aside from the natural suppression of a father’s bloodline, Feng Yuhuai also harbored a deeper apprehension: she sometimes suspected her father was also secretly parasitized by Evil Sacrifice, just like her.
If she were to take action, she must proceed with extreme caution, ensuring a fatal strike, not giving her father any chance to transform.
"Could Father be acting all along?"
Feng Yuhuai constantly pondered, the possibility was not nonexistent.
After all, her talent in disguises and acting could not possibly be inherited from her mother, Wang Xiuli.
Thinking about it this way, it likely was inherited from her father, Feng Ju.
The sound of dripping water suddenly intensified in the distance.
"Captain Feng, we finally found you!"
The sudden shout interrupted the warmth between father and daughter, two beams of light from strong flashlights crossed in from the side duct.
Then, fragmented footsteps approached, all like Feng Yuhuai, drawn by the violent explosion.
Feng Yuhuai’s toes suddenly stopped, the red thread in her hand quietly reverted back to a finger.
She forcibly swallowed the saliva in her mouth, managing to squeeze out a voice:
"Dad, your team members are here."
Feng Ju "hmm"ed, touched his deformed nose bridge with his forefinger, then retracted the warmth on his face, immediately switching back to the cold and stern demeanor of the Patrol Office’s captain.
The approaching team members panted heavily: "Captain Feng, why couldn’t we reach you on the radio?"
Feng Ju’s radio was with Dong Ping, who probably ended up... devoured by rats saving him.
He glanced around, indeed not seeing Dong Ping’s familiar figure.
He slowly looked around, indeed not catching sight of Dong Ping’s familiar figure.
Unspeakable grief spread within him, but he suppressed it, not allowing anything to show on his face.
He didn’t explain much to the team members but furrowed his brows, asking in a deep voice: "So, did you discover anything?"
The team members quickly stood at attention, loudly replying:
"Reporting to Captain Feng, the special agent just relayed orders for everyone to evacuate the chute and prepare for the next plan to capture [Mask]."
Feng Ju slightly froze: "What do you mean?"
The team member hesitated for a moment, his expression slightly odd as he answered:
"It’s said that [Mask]’s true appearance has been confirmed through a broadcast, and the next step is to launch a targeted capture operation..."
Feng Ju was full of questions, almost blurting out: "Broadcast? What broadcast?"
The team members all shook their heads, dizzy from wandering through the dark and damp sewer shafts, where would they find the time to loaf around and watch broadcasts?
After a while, a team member answered Feng Ju’s confusion: 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
"Apparently, a reporter from Light Prism TV Station secretly filmed [Mask]’s true appearance, and it was even broadcast live.
Now, besides us, probably everyone in Zone 9 already knows what [Mask] looks like."
Standing beside, Feng Yuhuai lowered her head, her reflection stunned in the sewage, her ears unable to hear anything, only two words echoed continuously:
"Broadcast???"
"Live——Broadcast——!!!"
