Chapter 194: The Death Papyrus
[Hearing your words, Jade and the rest nodded their heads.]
[With you and the others coming into agreement, you followed where the Absolute Compass’s magnetic needle pointed, dashing at a fast speed surpassing a Peak Iron rank’s.]
[You and the others cast a Three-Circle Magic Spell that allowed you and the others to temporarily become invisible.]
[Of course, it was only a visual illusion. You used a separate magic spell to hide the sound you and the others made. Although for you and Jade, who learned the Presence Concealment skill and Silent Steps skill, it was quite redundant.]
[But due to this, even if you and the others were speeding faster than a car in the streets, none of those humans were able to detect it.]
[Eventually, you, Jade, Scarlet, and Astraea arrived outside a school. It was already way past afternoon, and the students came and went, passing through the school gate.]
[Jade commented, "Well, this is bad. It seems that it’s inside a highly populated area, like a school. Even if it was previously ownerless, it might no longer be now."]
[Hearing Jade’s comment, you reassured, "Doesn’t matter. If it were no longer ownerless, then the Absolute Compass would have changed directions, and it would be impossible for me not to notice it."]
["Unless the nearest ownerless Death Papyrus after this one is in the same direction as it was. But even if it was, we can just defeat whoever gets the Death Papyrus and assassinate them."]
["Most students wouldn’t know about the Death Papyrus. It will take time for them to read the usage rules of the Death Papyrus and know how it works."]
["The Death Papyrus might be easy to use, but how to use its hidden features and the like aren’t. There is even a method to know the names of others just by looking at them, but it’s at the price of fifty years of lifespan being reduced."]
[You added, "Due to that limitation, not everyone could use that hidden feature. The Death Papyrus wouldn’t allow its usage if it detected that the user didn’t have enough lifespan."]
["Interestingly, the way lifespan is calculated isn’t by how long they would live in the future, but how much vitality and lifespan they currently have."] 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
["Most people had the lifespan to live for 70 years or more, given that they didn’t abuse their bodies and that their genetics are good. But not everyone can live past that, due to factors like encountering an accident or suddenly contracting an illness."]
["One might expect that the Death Papyrus would account for that and only calculate how much time they had truly lived in the future, but that isn’t the case."]
[You paused for a while, then continued, "The Death Papyrus didn’t care even if a year from now, that person was fated to die. It only needed to know whether they had enough vitality and lifespan to live past that year."]
["Due to that, death by accidents, or external forces, isn’t calculated. But if it were death concerning diseases and such, then it would be considered a failure of vitality, and so such deaths would be considered a natural death."]
["To better make use of the Death Papyrus, old people who didn’t have much time to live, or those who had contracted terminal illnesses and had their lives on a countdown, are the worst users for the Death Papyrus."]
["One could say that these high school students, who are brimming with youth and vitality, are the best users of the Death Papyrus. As long as they didn’t have any terminal illnesses, then they could squander the life they have to make use of the hidden features of the Death Papyrus."]
["But for long-lived races like us, Arch Humans or even especially Pureblood Vampires like A, then these hidden features are child’s play to us. We naturally have a high lifespan, and even other veteran train conductors had the means to increase their lifespan."]
[The "A" you referred to was none other than Astraea. You had already applied what you had suggested to them, which was to refer to each other in codenames by only speaking of the first letter of your names.]
[Fortunately, none of you had names starting with the same letter, so it was convenient to use that within the duration of this specific station exploration.]
[Although the likelihood of someone eavesdropping on the Zenith Train Crew without your knowledge was low, it was better to be safe than sorry. And for important messages, it’s not like you and the others couldn’t use the Zenith Chat Group.]
[But for most conversations, just using codenames was more than enough.]
[While you, Jade, Scarlet, and Astraea were chatting with each other, the four of you weren’t idle and standing foolishly.]
[The four of you had already entered the school beforehand and had already arrived at the fenced school rooftop of a certain school building.]
[Before Jade could reply to your words, you, Jade, Scarlet, and Astraea soon saw someone climb the stairwell enclosure.]
[The high school student seemed to be a beautiful girl with long, hazel brown hair. Even when she was looking directly at you, she didn’t notice you and the others due to her being unable to see through your Three Circle Magic Spells.]
[In both of her hands, that female student was clutching a scroll made out of papyrus paper. It was none other than the Death Papyrus.]
[Although she was holding it, she likely hadn’t even used or opened it yet, hence why the Absolute Compass hadn’t labeled it as being owned yet.]
[Jade looked at you immediately, to which you nodded your head while doing a throat-cutting hand gesture.]
[Receiving your agreement, Jade didn’t hold back and immediately summoned Golden Time beside her. Without any hesitation, a mana blade appeared in her right hand using Three Circle Magic: Mana Blade.]
[Since her soul-bound weapon, the Unseen Blade, was at Initial Crystal-grade and way above Peak Iron-grade, Jade couldn’t use it and could only create a weapon using a magic spell.]
["Time Skip!"]
