Chapter 41: Chapter 41: 2 Oddballs

Hearing the Monk’s words, the Martial Artist was on the verge of tears. What kind of Monk was this? He was a complete thug! Refusing Gold Coins and demanding Primordial Stones—this was simply insatiable greed.

"I don’t have any! I only have ten Gold Coins. Take them or leave it." Hearing the Monk’s demand, the man flew into a rage, jumping to his feet and glaring at the pair.

’Primordial Stones? Even a single Broken Primordial Stone is worth hundreds of Gold Coins! These two jokers pull out a couple of useless trinkets and demand Primordial Stones? If it were that easy, wouldn’t every Martial Artist be rich?’

The man glared furiously, but the Monk and Daoist maintained their benevolent expressions, showing not a single trace of greed. Judging by their appearance, they truly possessed the aura of enlightened masters.

"Amitabha. Benefactor, you are mistaken. This Primordial Stone is not for me, but for your own fortune and longevity," the Monk said with great solemnity.

So shameless! That audacity was truly something else. The surrounding crowd was utterly in awe of the Monk and Daoist. From the day the pair had arrived in the Mysterious City, no one could even come close to matching their shamelessness.

"Hmph! You stinking Monk! I only have ten Gold Coins. Take them or leave them! And you can have this junk back!" the Martial Artist roared. He threw the Monk’s Buddha Beads and the Daoist’s Talisman Seal at their feet, then turned to leave.

’What rotten luck. Running into these two freaks first thing in the morning,’ the man muttered angrily as he walked away, feeling utterly aggrieved.

Watching the man’s back, the Monk said coolly, "Benefactor, the Buddha saves all living beings. Blaspheming like this will bring you retribution."

Hearing this, the man didn’t even turn his head as he spat back, "Pah! You wicked Monk! The Buddha you worship can’t be much better!"

The man continued cursing, but he failed to notice that the Monk had bizarrely vanished from his original spot. In the next instant, the Monk appeared behind him and delivered a swift kick to his rear. Caught completely off guard, the man went flying and landed flat on his face.

After landing the blow, the Monk was back in his original spot. The whole thing seemed incredibly bizarre. But Lin Yun’s eyes widened. ’It’s another Body Technique Martial Skill! And it’s even more profound than the Daoist’s!’

"Damn it, who kicked me?! Show yourself! Stop hiding like a coward!" Having been ambushed twice now, the man roared in fury. The surrounding crowd, however, all turned to look at the Monk.

Seeing everyone’s gazes on the Monk, the man stormed over to him and bellowed, "Monk, was that you?! If you have any guts, face me openly instead of pulling these sneaky tricks!"

Hearing the man’s accusations, the Monk put his palms together, his face a mask of compassion. "Benefactor, I already told you that blaspheming the Buddha would result in punishment. You, however, refused to believe it. For that, you cannot blame me."

"Hmph, damn Monk, stop acting so high and mighty! I must not have checked the almanac this morning to have run into you two disasters." Having been ambushed twice for no apparent reason, the man could do little more than vent his fury with curses.

"Boundless Celestial Venerable," the Daoist chimed in. "I foresaw a bloody calamity in your future and acted to resolve it. This was a good deed. Benefactor, you should be grateful to the heavens, not harbor resentment that could jeopardize your future."

At these words, the man gave up on talking to the two oddballs. He turned to leave again, moving much faster than before, all while keeping a wary eye on what was behind him.

Having been ambushed twice, the man had learned his lesson. He now kept a constant watch over his shoulder to prevent it from happening again.

However, against the Monk and Daoist and their superb Body Technique Martial Skills, his vigilance was little more than wishful thinking. This time, both the Monk and Daoist moved as one.

Appearing behind the man in a flash, the Monk once again kicked him square in the rear, while the Daoist snatched his belt clean off.

Sent flying by the kick and with his belt now gone, the money pouch tucked into the man’s robes naturally tumbled out—and, as if by pure coincidence, landed right at the Monk’s feet.

"Amitabha. How virtuous, how virtuous. There is no greater good than to know your faults and correct them. On behalf of the Buddha, I shall accept this small token of your sincerity," the Monk said, nonchalantly picking up the money pouch at his feet.

Hearing this, the man completely lost it. These two were robbing him in broad daylight, yet they had the audacity to make it sound so righteous! With so many people watching, who couldn’t tell they had just forcibly snatched his money pouch?

"Damn you! You two robbers! I’ll die before I let you get away with this!" The man was desperate. That pouch contained everything he owned. He had painstakingly saved up more than ten Broken Primordial Stones, and now they were all gone. How could he possibly let it go?

With a furious roar, the man lunged at the Monk and Daoist. Unfazed, the pair maintained their benevolent smiles. "Benefactor, do not be troubled. The Buddha has surely received your heartfelt gift. I will chant scriptures for you every day to ensure your lifelong peace and safety. Amitabha."

Having said their piece, the two slipped away as if their feet were greased, vanishing into the crowd. Blessed with their Body Technique Martial Skills, they were incredibly fast and disappeared in an instant, leaving the Martial Artist roaring in helpless rage.

"Sigh, another poor soul. It’s just his rotten luck, running into those two oddballs," the onlookers sighed, watching the man’s frantic display. In the Mysterious City, he was far from the first to be swindled by the Monk and Daoist.

As the farce concluded, Lin Yun shook his head helplessly. ’Those two oddballs... their Combat Power is immense, but their actions are utterly contemptible. And they’re so unbelievably shameless.’

Afterward, Lin Yun wandered around the Mysterious City for a while and saw all sorts of strange and wonderful things. He was interested in many of them, but with no money to his name, he could only look and restrain his desires.

’Sigh, if only I had money... I could break through to the Fifth Layer of Opening in half a year at most.’ Returning to the inn dejectedly, Lin Yun thought about all the strength-enhancing Spirit Grass Treasures he had seen in the city. But with no money, all he could do was window-shop.

Just as he walked into the inn and entered the rear courtyard, Lin Yun saw the Monk and Daoist again. The two were boisterously drinking wine and feasting on meat, and, naturally, they were surrounded by women.

Seeing Lin Yun approach, the Monk wiped the grease from the corner of his mouth. His lecherous expression instantly transformed into one of kindly benevolence. "Benefactor, I observe a dark aura about your face. I fear a great calamity will soon befall you."

Hearing this, Lin Yun didn’t dare engage. He slipped into his room in a flash. ’These guys are just insatiable,’ he thought. ’They just pulled a scam this morning, and now they’re already setting their sights on me.’

Lin Yun ignored them, but the pair wasn’t discouraged in the slightest. They immediately reverted to their lecherous expressions. Right now, they looked nothing like a Monk and a Daoist—they were just two thugs. The way they stared at the women beside them, it was as if they wanted to devour them whole.
