"If you don’t come out and surrender willingly..." The constable from Iron Mountain County snorted arrogantly, "we’ll turn you into porcupines with a hail of arrows!"
Whoosh—
Crack!
Suddenly, an unknown object flew onto the constable’s face, shattering his facial bones on impact. He let out a cry of alarm and tumbled to the ground.
After frantically feeling his agonizing face,
he touched a pool of blood. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
This so terrified the constable that he became beside himself with fear, "I’m going to die! I’m going to die! A hidden weapon! They don’t want to surrender; they’ve injured me!!!"
"Silence!" The arrest officer glared at him, "What hidden weapon? It’s a chopstick! How useless can you be, to be injured by a mere chopstick to the point of bleeding? Utterly disgraceful!"
After berating the constable, a murderous look flashed in the arrest officer’s eyes as he immediately issued the command, "Since these rebels refuse a toast, they shall be forced to drink a forfeit."
"Archers, ready!!!"
As he uttered this command, the twenty-some archers each drew an arrow, notched it to the bowstring, and, pulling it taut, aimed at the inn.
This tense showdown caused the breath of the bystanders from Iron Mountain County to catch in their throats.
"Fire!!!"
In unison, the archers released their fingers from the bowstrings, sending arrows swooping into the inn!
Although these archers appeared to be of mixed ability, with less than standard posture in drawing their bows,
even with their imperfect form, the close distance ensured the arrows reached into the inn.
The arrows, slicing through the air, even penetrated the thin windows of the inn, flying inside.
Moreover, the archers didn’t stop there but quickly notched their arrows once more to the bowstrings, releasing another volley.
Wave after wave of arrows relentlessly continued, and after five volleys, hundreds of arrows had been shot into the inn.
Looking at the crowd of Iron Mountain County onlookers,
they were trembling with fear!
Even now, someone’s legs were giving out from fear, and that person was the innkeeper... The innkeeper felt his legs go weak as he realized that it would be wise to quickly leave the inn. This dog-meat Magistrate was not usually this ruthless!
If he had still been inside the inn, wouldn’t he have been turned into a porcupine by now?
"Hss... There’s absolutely no way out for those out-of-towners! But those out-of-towners were really bold to attack a constable. Alas, pitiful! They’ve been labeled rebels; I reckon no one will even want to collect their bodies."
"With so many arrows flying in, even if they had the abilities of mythical creatures with multiple heads and arms, couldn’t they withstand it? Unless each of them was clad in iron armor, like cans of sardines."
"Where would they find iron armor to wear? Or maybe they could use tables and chairs from the inn as shields. But how could they possibly protect themselves from arrows coming from all directions?"
"Who knows whose inn this is? That fellow is really down on his luck!"
"Indeed! With just this barrage of arrows, who knows how much stuff inside has been destroyed."
"If the innkeeper was also inside, wouldn’t he be dead too?"
"It’s utterly heartless!"
"..."
The onlookers only dared to whisper these words among themselves, they absolutely wouldn’t dare to speak them aloud.
Indeed, they were very dissatisfied with that dog-meat Magistrate, but that didn’t mean they were going to court death.
After all, even though the Magistrate was exceedingly greedy, he didn’t drain the pond to fish; instead, he left a bit each time, which enabled him to exploit the people over a long period.
This exploitation hadn’t reached an extreme peak, leaving many of those with less courage not daring to harbor thoughts of resistance.
"Hmph!" Feeling that there was no further commotion inside the inn, the arrest officer snorted coldly, "Magistrate Sir is kind-hearted and can’t bear to see too much cruelty. Clean up their bodies and bring them back to show Magistrate Sir these rebels."
"Yes, Constable Sir!" A group of government officials, constables, and rangers filed into the inn in rapid succession.
The arrest officer entered as well.
However, upon entering the inn, they realized... the situation was not quite what they had expected.
There were indeed people turned into porcupines inside the inn, but the porcupines were people they somewhat recognized.
They were several of the rangers!
Then they saw a group sitting at a table, seemingly unharmed. The skin of these people was paler than that of the folks from the Great Yan Dynasty, and they were not as tall either—oh, except for one who was extraordinarily tall.
Everyone from the government office was dumbstruck, their faces filled with disbelief.
This group of foreigners.
This band of rebels.
Why are they unharmed?
"What are you all good for?" The arrest officer from Iron Mountain County didn’t even consider the possibility that Fan Wu and company were very skilled. In his fixed mindset, no matter how skilled a person was in martial arts, they couldn’t possibly block such a storm of arrows.
He turned and bitingly rebuked the troop of archers behind him, "Magistrate Sir spends so much Silver to support you, and this is how you repay him?!"
