Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics
Chapter 5747 - 4770: X Royal Family: Rebirth (10)
Shiller quickly walked through the corridor, and after preparing everything in the preparation room, he swiftly arrived at the operating room. He hadn’t even seen Charles lying on the operating table when he felt the increasingly intense brainwave fluctuations.
"What the hell?" Shiller walked over to check on Charles’ condition and then looked at Strange, who was fully armed beside him, and asked, "What’s wrong with him?"
"That’s exactly what I want to ask you." Strange’s hands didn’t stop moving, he just slightly turned his eyes to look at the nearby heart monitor, "The issue with Professor X’s brainwaves is reflected in his heart rate, and his heart rate is currently fluctuating greatly." The other doctors all looked grim, only Strange, with his exceptional skills and courage, dared to continue the surgery.
"Whatever method you use, stabilize him." During the surgery, Strange’s voice was devoid of any emotional change, as monotonous as the electronic broadcast sound of the instruments, he was like an emotionless machine. He reached out, took the scalpel handed by the assistant, and said without looking up, "You have at most three minutes."
"Let me see." Shiller didn’t say much and walked to the other side of the operating table, avoiding Strange’s arm. He bent over, lifted Professor X’s eyelids, then seemed to be sensing something.
"In his current state, he cannot actively invite me into his mental domain, so I’ll have to use some force. Gray mist!"
Gray mist emanated from Shiller’s hand, but Strange immediately snapped, "Keep it away, don’t block my view!"
The mist hadn’t even spread out before it drilled into Professor X’s body and then began to move towards his brain. This physical nature of psychic intrusion took effect quickly, and in the next second, Shiller found himself in Professor X’s Spirit Domain.
But strangely, it was not as calm as before. In the pitch-black universe space, a storm was raging. It wasn’t just Professor X’s brainwaves, but Magneto’s as well.
Shiller instantly understood what was going on, but understanding alone wasn’t enough; he had to find a way to solve the problem. Following the fluctuations of the magnetic fields and brainwaves, he flew towards the area with the strongest fluctuations. However, the closer he got to the center, the more violent the storm became, to the point where even he couldn’t completely resist it.
The urgent task now was to quickly calm one of them down. Unsure if it would work, Shiller spoke into the empty space, "Magneto, if you keep this up, Charles Xavier will surely die."
That’s right; these two intertwined forces were Professor X and Magneto battling it out. Professor X had brought Magneto into his mental domain, but for some reason, the two began to fight, leading to Professor X being ambushed, which resulted in the strange brainwave condition during the rescue.
After shouting, Shiller frowned and waited. A few seconds later, the violent power gradually dissipated, and the true brainwave of Professor X finally emerged. Shiller heard his weary voice.
"I’m sorry, Erik. I never intended to sacrifice myself for Scott; that was never my plan, it was truly an accident. You must let me leave here, or others will be worried."
Magneto didn’t respond at all. Shiller had to add, "Whatever happened between you two, please stop arguing immediately. Professor X’s condition is extremely dangerous, and this surgery cannot afford any mistakes."
"You might not know, but the one performing surgery on Professor X is Stephen Strange from the Central Universe, Doctor Strange. He never had a car accident, and his success rate with surgeries is nearly perfect. He’s my friend and came at my invitation. He can’t fail at this time."
"I completely understand," Professor X responded. "There’s some misunderstanding between Erik and me, but it shouldn’t affect you. It’s all back to normal now; you should leave first."
"No, I’m taking him away." Shiller said firmly, "No matter what misunderstandings exist between you, now is definitely not the time for explanations and arguments. I must separate you two, Magneto has to come with me."
"The problem now is that I can’t stop him," Professor X sighed. "Most carbon-based organisms can’t adapt to only existing with a spirit body, and over time, their spirit bodies develop various problems. Magneto’s loss of control is partly due to this. I’m the only one who can control him now."
"No," Shiller said. "Now you connect to my spirit domain and send him to the High Tower; I can control him."
Professor X expressed doubt, while Shiller opened up his spirit domain access to him. Professor X connected immediately, and though he didn’t delve deep, he realized this couldn’t be any ordinary doctor. His renowned reputation in Battleworld must have been earned.
Previously, he had considered this because Shiller behaved very normally, like someone earnestly helping them solve problems, albeit a bit like someone who enjoyed watching the chaos. At most, his methods were aggressive, his character somewhat vile, but Professor X had met too many oddballs in his life, and Shiller didn’t even rank.
But as an expert in the field of psychology, upon connecting to Shiller’s spirit domain, Professor X immediately understood that claims of an ordinary doctor without superpowers were false. This guy was abnormal from the start.
"You can’t guarantee you won’t hurt him," Professor X was still hesitant. "There are misunderstandings between us, but he doesn’t intend to harm me. I know you might not actively do so, but some of the safety measures required to restrain him might be very intense."
"You have no choice," Shiller said, looking into his eyes. "If you really die, he would only feel guiltier. Isn’t that true?"
That one sentence completely convinced Professor X. Shiller continued further, asking, "Where is he?"
"Right here, this storm is him," Professor X said.
"Alright, leave it to me." Shiller nodded. He transformed into gray mist, using it to carry his brainwaves, slowly contracting the storm, finally drawing it into his mental world and sealing it inside the High Tower.
The High Tower can indeed have a certain suppressive effect, but it mainly relies on the suppression of other personality traits. As Professor X said, the process was indeed a bit intense, but eventually, the out-of-control magnetic storm was suppressed.
"Alright." Shiller came back to his senses, looked at Strange, and said, "You continue with the surgery, I need to ask Magneto what happened."
Strange didn’t say anything, just gave him a look. After Shiller left, he returned to his room for a short rest and then prepared to find Magneto to ask about what happened.
"You’re awake?" In the High Tower’s reception room, Shiller looked at Magneto and asked, "Why did you lose control suddenly?"
Magneto pursed his lips and didn’t speak, seemingly still recalling what had just happened. Shiller was not in a hurry; after a while, Magneto finally spoke: "Charles has a plan."
"What does he want to do?"
"He knows he can’t stop Scott from participating in the Shi’ar Empire’s coup, but he doesn’t want Scott to lose himself in the whirlpool of power desire. You know, that’s very likely. That is the power center of the Three Great Empires, wealth and nobility are blinding."
"He doesn’t believe Scott can stick to his principles?"
"If it were just him, maybe he could. But don’t forget, there’s also his younger brother whom he deeply feels guilty towards. Charles knows Scott well. To compensate, he’s willing to do anything. This could easily lead him deeper and deeper, eventually completely losing himself."
"So he plans to..."
"He wants to have someone from the Shi’ar Empire stage an attack, targeting him. Of course, it’s not to alienate the two brothers, but to give Scott a legitimate reason for revenge. Although this will make his motivation come from hatred, the fundamental motivation is still love and protection. After he completes his revenge, his desires will diminish significantly, allowing him to stay clear-headed."
"This situation is indeed difficult to balance, and this is a relatively good solution. So where is the problem?"
"The problem is that I disagree," Magneto said, "I have been staying in his brainwaves, clearly aware of all his plans. I strongly oppose him creating an opportunity by self-harming, but he wouldn’t listen to me."
"At that time, he was already being watched, you know, he stayed in the Shi’ar Empire before, and he was also the target of many. After the Fire God’s usurpation news, combined with Charles’s appearance, this will definitely make others suspicious."
"Indeed. So this attack was also..."
"After the incident where the Phoenix went out of control and destroyed star systems, the Shi’ar Empire also has a very comprehensive defense plan against mutants, which is why Charles doesn’t want Scott to get deeply involved. We suspect that the Shi’ar Empire may have also reserved main Sentinel robots. The fact proves we were right, the laser that injured Charles was a weapon from one of the Sentinel robots."
Shiller slightly frowned and said, "This situation is getting complicated. Who do you think gave them the Sentinel robots?"
"It’s hard to say," Magneto shook his head and said, "Many people on Earth have connections with the Shi’ar Empire, including The Avengers. The Illuminati can even contact the personal guard directly. If they’ve collaborated before, the Shi’ar Empire would certainly make similar requests. The damage caused by mutants to them is too great, to deal with mutants, they will stop at nothing."
"You fought with Charles to stop him."
"I admit I was too angry and lost control. This kind of loss of control was irreparable, and I couldn’t constrain my mental state well, almost harming Charles."
"Weren’t those people arranged by him?"
"No. They were from the extreme anti-mutant group within the Shi’ar Empire. They attempted to assassinate Charles before but failed. This time when they heard the news, they are bound to act like hyenas smelling blood."
"But they couldn’t kill him. If, as you said, there were main Sentinels, could the Professor survive in that situation?"
"They wanted to kill him, but they wanted to capture him alive more. The main function of Charles’s fourth-generation brainwave amplifier is not to amplify brainwaves but to store mutant consciousness. Do you know what that means?"
Shiller understood: "They want to capture mutant consciousness but without the genes, how will they resurrect the mutants?"
"That, I don’t know. But they indeed aimed to capture Charles alive. Fortunately, Scott arrived in time; he brought Charles back, and you guys performed surgery on him. The Shi’ar Empire’s plot won’t succeed now."
"I’m afraid not," Shiller said, "They will soon know Scott is the Professor’s most valued student. As long as they make a move on him, the Professor will definitely appear. The most important thing now is the Fire God’s attitude. As long as he protects his brother, the problem won’t be big. But if he doesn’t want to or fails to, you all will eventually have to make another trip to the Shi’ar Empire."
