Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics
Chapter 5742 - 4765: X Royal Family: Newborn (5)
Although the local Magneto isn’t as old as in most universes, he can still be called middle-aged, but he’s not this young. The Erik in front of him is completely a twenty-something young man, with taut skin and strong muscles, showing no signs of aging.
Sebastian was so scared he almost threw the documents in his hands. He cautiously asked, "You..."
"I’m not from your universe. But they’ve assigned me to handle everything on Clarkia Island. Here’s a handwritten letter, would you like to see it?"
Sebastian took the letter to have a look, though he wasn’t concerned about impersonation, as the Clarkian Totem would certainly recognize him. He was just curious about where this young Magneto came from.
Logically, even if help was needed from other universes, they should have found someone with more experience. What use is finding someone so young? Sebastian harbored a slight disdain.
Upon opening it, it was indeed a handwritten letter, but the letter contained a lot of nonsense and didn’t explain his origins, so he had to probe himself: "Are you from the same universe as those Avengers?"
As he asked, he silently prayed that he wasn’t. The Avengers were already bothersome enough, and if mutants from that universe were here too, don’t even mention interference, the universe is yours.
Erik silently shook his head. He reached out his hand towards Sebastian, who looked confused. Erik slightly moved his fingers, and all the documents in Sebastian’s hands and those in the cabinet behind him flew to the front.
Sebastian watched Erik reading in shock. Erik was indeed there reading files, not just flipping through or trying to destroy them, and Sebastian stood there watching Erik to confirm he was really reading.
Turns out, Erik was seriously reading, and while reading, he even started categorizing the documents. Sebastian suddenly felt like the sun had risen from the west.
Magneto truly isn’t good at handling paperwork. This isn’t entirely due to his personality; it’s related to his life experiences and the education he received. Moreover, he’s especially impatient with handling political and diplomatic paperwork. If he were even slightly better at such things, the Mutant Brotherhood wouldn’t have been so badly targeted.
It’s actually kind of an open secret. Even during the most intense conflict between the Mutant Brotherhood and the X-Men, some Brotherhood documents were sent to the school for handling. As for who handled them, that hardly needs mentioning.
Sebastian watched for a while. He found that Magneto seemed not to have actually processed anything; he was just reading. This gave him some confidence, and he prepared to test the waters about the other’s details.
Just as he opened his mouth to ask, Erik turned to him and said, "I’ve pretty much grasped the situation now; let’s go check the dock."
Sebastian hadn’t realized, and Erik had already left. So Sebastian had to follow. However, he still harbored doubts, wanting to see what this alternate universe Magneto could achieve.
Conveniently, Stark was also at the dock. He stood by the rocks under the cliff, measuring something. Magneto flew over and landed, Stark looked back at him once, and Sebastian’s heart jumped.
The Avengers and the Mutant Brotherhood can truly be called enemies, and Avengers and Magneto are old adversaries. Their relations aren’t harmonious; Iron Man turning around to fire on him would be normal.
Surprisingly, Stark turned back to look at him once, then turned again and continued working. Magneto watched his actions for a while before walking away, neither of them saying a word.
Sebastian was puzzled and couldn’t help but ask, "What’s going on? Between you two..."
"He’s busy," Erik glanced back at Sebastian, "Let’s go check the dock under construction."
Actually, it’s not far; just around this piece of beach it can be seen. It’s an area like an elliptical bay with a considerable internal sea. And since it’s currently above the deep sea, with no Shallow Bay, large ships can dock.
Many mutants were busy there, with some using telekinesis to control materials flying up, while others were looking at blueprints and assembling corresponding materials, which looked a bit like playing with Lego.
But seeing this made Magneto furrow his brows. He landed on a distant cliff without getting closer. Sebastian asked, "Won’t you go take a look? The dock is nearly completed."
"Do they always do it this way?"
Sebastian looked left and right at the construction site but didn’t see any problems, so he nodded and said, "Yes."
"Ridiculous."
Strangely, Magneto’s tone wasn’t very severe, but it made Sebastian’s heart feel chilled. For some reason, this universe’s Magneto, though young, commanded great presence. He didn’t seem like a mutant group leader, but more like a seasoned national leader.
Sebastian quickly dismissed such absurd thoughts from his mind. They haven’t succeeded in nation-building here, could this young one really make it?
Though unbeknownst to him, it’s precisely because he hadn’t experienced Battleworld. There’s already a consensus in Battleworld: the younger these two old-timers appear, the more formidable they are.
After all, people mature a bit in their later years and tend to save face; but when they’re young, they truly make waves without caring about anything. Let alone someone like Charles and Erik pretending to be younger.
"You go talk to them." Erik ordered others to do things as naturally as breathing, "Get a plan out immediately."
"Plan? A plan for what?"
"For building the dock, of course," Erik looked at him as if he were an idiot, "What else? Fishing in the sea?"
"But the dock is almost finished." Sebastian pointed over there, "It’s just the final touches left."
"Tear it all down and start over." Erik said.
Sebastian’s eyes widened: "Do you mean to change location? To move it over to where Iron Man is?"
"Whether or not we change location, this one can’t be used. Just go tell them."
"But they’ll be very disappointed." Sebastian wasn’t someone with a strong empathy; he just didn’t want more trouble. Everyone was just hanging on, hoping to hear good news, and if it drags on any longer...
"Do as I say." Erik finally looked him in the eye. That look scared Sebastian witless.
In theory, Sebastian was also quite a strong mutant, and even without Hellfire Group backing him, he shouldn’t be so meek. But this kind of go-with-the-flow fence-sitter is great at reading the room. Just one look, and Sebastian knew how troublesome the guy in front of him was, so off he went.
Originally, he planned to announce it with a tough face, but unexpectedly, he saw a young Charles, already blending in with the mutant workers.
This one was even more heavyweight, giving Sebastian chills. Seeing Charles’s blue eyes made him want to flee. The Charles of this universe never gave him this feeling, but this one was utterly terrifying for some reason.
However, the other mutants clearly didn’t have his honed intuition, surrounding Charles, asking him what universe he was from, if he was in college or just started working.
Charles responded with a smile, and because he was young, his smile had a hint of naivety. With that face and those blue eyes, he quickly gained the trust of all the mutants. After all, who hasn’t admired the charisma of their leaders in their youth?
But Sebastian still remembered his task. He took a deep breath and shouted, "Stop, everyone, stop!"
He opened his mouth, but looking at the mutants watching him, he hesitated. So he reluctantly approached Charles and said, "The Magneto from your universe wants me to halt the construction of the dock and tear it all down. What do you think..."
Charles didn’t look at him either, just waved and said, "Listen up, everyone. It’s been too tough without good food or sleep, so I’ve decided to give everyone a break to adjust."
Everyone cheered immediately. Though they wanted to finish the dock, working nonstop was too much. Several mutants had used their mutant abilities to stay awake for days, even working through last night’s storm.
Charles took another deep breath of the damp and cold ocean air, smiled, and said, "But before the break, there’s something to tell you. The reason your universe’s leader invited us here isn’t to help Earth fight wars in the Solar System. We’re here to establish a standardized process for a mutant nation."
"What is a standardized process? Simply put, a country needs laws, and those laws need a standard implementation process. Of course, that sounds a bit complicated, so let me give an example."
"Take building a dock, for example. Everyone’s passionate, gets the materials, and starts building. That’s not difficult for mutants. Although everyone is tired, there’s no technical issue—just process the materials and put them together."
"But think about it, if we were to build a spaceship? Can we just wing it like this? And for planet-level battleships? I doubt even Magneto can just do as he pleases."
"At this level of precision, you have to meticulously check every step, or all the effort will be in vain. Worse, a failed experiment might blow up an entire star system."
The mutants inhaled sharply. Sebastian looked over at Polaris, who was a tough character, just returned from the frontline, probably full of rage; didn’t she have any objections?
Unexpectedly, Polaris sat cross-legged, listening and nodding repeatedly. Sebastian found it strange—Magneto couldn’t tame his rebellious daughter, yet she became a compliant girl in front of this Professor?
Many had the same question, so they quietly asked Polaris. Polaris waved her hand, saying, "You don’t know; the Professor’s universe is incredible. Mutants have conquered half the universe, and planet-class battleships are common, while the Three Great Empires have to watch their faces when going out."
Sebastian naturally overheard and widened his eyes at Charles. Charles, a bit helpless, said, "Miss, don’t exaggerate. We only occupy a single star system in the Andromeda Galaxy, not half the universe. And most of those battleships are Earth’s public property, not the mutants’. "
As a result, others looked at him with even more amazement.
