Days as a Spiritual Mentor in American Comics
Chapter 5734 - 4757: X Royal Family: Fierce Battle (24)
"You must have imagined, back when he was the best surgeon, the highly regarded Hand of God, what it would be like to meet him. But all your fantasies are just based on your misunderstanding of him." Strange scoffed, "Stephen Strange is a very skilled surgeon, but he can’t be considered a good doctor."
Main Universe Iron Man looked at him, Strange said, "If he treated you well back then, it wouldn’t be because you two shared a mutual admiration, but simply because you have money."
"How can you say that about him?" Main Universe Iron Man flew a bit closer, stared into Strange’s eyes and said, "How could he not be a good doctor? He can save all the patients."
"Do you know what he’d do if he joined your medical team?" Strange reminisced briefly, then said, "He’d demand you fire all those idiots, give him all the medical funding, and then double the price. Then he’d serve you while calling you a stupid nouveau riche."
Main Universe Iron Man was almost like a cat with its tail stepped on. Strange, however, took a deep breath and said, "Of course, he’s reformed now, you don’t have to be upset. And I’m saying this just to tell you—I haven’t! Get lost!"
Main Universe Iron Man was almost choked to death by his words. Just as he was about to open his hand cannon and fight this jerk to the death, another figure arrived in the near-Earth orbit. Stark looked at Strange through the data stream mask and said, "I knew it, only you, Stephen, could make such a racket above Earth. Is your job to dress Earth up in every universe?" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Main Universe Iron Man looked incredulously at Stark, a bit doubtful of what he just heard. This can’t be right?
But he glanced at the Earth Magic Defense Network and hesitated to speak further. Although it’s crude, there is some truth to it, but it’s just too crude.
This time it was Strange’s turn to look displeased. He looked at Stark and said, "Does it make you so happy to attack my character? You’ve been here so long, haven’t found yourself a full-time job yet?"
"I can’t be bothered to argue with you, I’m just passing by." Stark said, "Just like our long-standing division of labor, you handle the rear, I’m going to the front lines to resist the invasion."
"Huh." Strange snorted coldly, "The alien armies are already at Jupiter, and you’re telling me Earth isn’t the front line? Are you disoriented or what?"
"Ahem." Stark coughed twice, "Anyway, I’m going to do something more useful. I’m just here to advise you not to waste time here, because with me taking action, they won’t break through either."
"Are you sure?" Strange squinted and said, "Shiller let the alien armies in to unite the forces on Earth in this universe. If you don’t let them in, how will they unite?"
"Isn’t Jupiter close enough?" Stark shook his head and said, "I don’t see any sign of unity from them."
"You’ve been at home too long, your intelligence has regressed." Strange said, "For us, the whole Milky Way is at our doorstep. But this universe doesn’t even have a decent starship, Jupiter seems as distant as another world to them, and they still have plenty of time for infighting."
"Okay." Stark thought for a moment and said, "I’ll let a small force through, you deal with them in near-Earth orbit..."
"Near-Earth orbit is too far." Strange looked down at the ground and said, "I need to open the Magic Defense Network, let this small force into New York, and then have The Avengers fight them on the ground for the humans to realize that aliens are invading Earth, understand?"
Stark was speechless: "Let them into Earth? Bullet’s already in the heart and then think about rescue, isn’t it too late?"
"In my view, New York won’t cut it, it has to be Manhattan, and it has to be the most prosperous streets. When the police and military together can’t handle it, then call in The Avengers, after hundreds of rounds of battle, they will realize the calamity is upon them. You’ve really had it too easy and forgotten what these people are like."
Stark also had nothing to say. Main Universe Iron Man listened to this process, but felt it a bit familiar, as if it had happened many times. So when should they start thinking it as an invasion? Should the defense have been prepared once the enemy reached Jupiter?
Stark flew away. Main Universe Iron Man also didn’t want to stay with this Strange, he really was a bit too annoying. But for the sake of the next plan, he had to stay, and then asked, "You want to have the Shi’ar Empire’s army invade New York?"
Strange glanced at him, seeming a bit impatient to speak, but still let out a nasal sound: "Hmm."
Main Universe Iron Man thought about it, if this is to force Earth’s forces to unite, letting a squad in is indeed the best way. But the Shi’ar Empire has ill intentions, their strength is rather strong, what if New York really gets destroyed?
He was reluctant to vocalize his concerns because it made them seem too incompetent. However, Strange seemed to have read his mind, and said, "Originally, this plan required you to play a part, to pretend as if you couldn’t win, only then would it force the ordinary people’s governments to seek help from the mutants, getting them to sit down for a talk. But looking at you now, you don’t even need to act, just be yourself."
Main Universe Iron Man was furious once more. These words ought to be an explanation, yet Strange managed to make it sound like a personal attack. "We’re not that weak!"
Strange didn’t even waste half a second on him, his Cloak flew out, cutting a graceful arc through the air, wrapping Main Universe Iron Man and his mecha into a bundle. He waved his hand lightly and tossed the bundle into the nearby Teleportation Portal.
"Bang!"
"Ow!" Main Universe Iron Man cried out in agony from the impact. The Avengers, who were just returning for resupply, were startled by him.
"God! Tony!" Spider-Man hurriedly rushed forward to help Iron Man up. Main Universe Iron Man was furious and fired two shots at the cloak, but unfortunately, the cloak flashed and disappeared.
The others quickly helped him up. Thor, with his sandwich still in his mouth, hadn’t had time to swallow, and turned to look in the direction where the cloak vanished, asking, "Is Steven back? Did you calm him down?"
Main Universe Iron Man waved his hand and said, "For now, don’t mention that name to me. Listen, they have a plan..."
"The Clarkia Nature Reserve was officially announced today at 8:00 a.m., along with the establishment of the Clarkia Nature Conservation Foundation. The foundation’s spokesperson, Charles Xavier, stated at the press conference that Clarkia is not only the homeland of mutants but also a jewel of Earth, and they will strive together with the human race to build our blue planet into a paradise for intelligent life..."
Nick turned off the television, looked at Falcon beside him, and said, "They succeeded, even a complete victory."
"I don’t care about that." Falcon sat on a chair, arms crossed, saying, "I just want to know why Natasha and Clint are stuck in the training ground and won’t come out, leaving all matters to me and Bucky?"
"I want to know too," Nick said, "Ever since returning to the agency, the two of them have been acting strange, and I don’t know what they’re trying to achieve in the training ground. Should I speak to the Captain and them?"
"Can’t you go yourself?" Falcon asked.
"An unrestricted training ground is one of the benefits for S.H.I.E.L.D. employees, and as Director, I can’t just prevent them from using it; it would seem too unreasonable." Nick sighed, "So much has happened recently, the mutant nation, the Red Orchid Factory, another Avengers team, maybe they’re under too much pressure."
"Alright." Falcon seemingly didn’t have much hope, dutifully standing up, ready to work. At that moment, Kate suddenly rushed in: "A heavily armed alien force has suddenly descended over Manhattan, they’ve already destroyed a street, Director!"
Nick sprang up: "Alien army?! Quick, assemble The Avengers!"
On the streets of New York Manhattan, everyone fled for their lives, fortunately, this area was prone to accidents, and people ran quickly. When that huge green figure leaped into the battlefield, the screams around had already faded greatly.
"The Hulk!!!"
"Captain, what do we do?" Spider-Man braked suddenly, stopping behind Captain America asking, "These guys are clearly prepared, I’ve never seen those laser weapons before."
"Don’t panic." Captain America secured his shield and said, "The Hulk will attack from the front, and you’ll sneak in from the rear, first try if the spider silk can trap them. If you can hinder their movement, let Natasha hit them hard with the widow sting..."
"Bucky!" Captain America shouted again, "You strike from the side to attract their attention."
"Hawkeye, occupy that high ground, once their formation is disrupted, you can start sniping."
"Thor, come with me this side, Iron Man will provide aerial fire support, others attack based on the situation!"
With that, The Avengers charged out in full force, attacking the small alien squad from all directions. But the fully armed alien soldiers weren’t to be underestimated; as soon as they placed a few objects on the ground similar to bases, Hulk’s steps instantly halted.
"Stasis Field!" Iron Man shouted, "Hawkeye, destroy the base!"
Hawkeye immediately switched to his high-impact explosive arrows, firing one with a thunderous momentum. Yet the stasis field was most restraining against projectiles, and the arrow fell short before reaching the base, almost exploding near the attacking Winter Soldier.
"I’ll handle this!" Thor raised his hammer, a lightning strike descended, seemingly unstoppable by the force field, instantly charring a base. But at that moment a laser beam swept across, Thor dodged too late, hit in the arm, leaving a charred wound.
"Damn it! This is the Shi’ar Empire’s source energy beam! Don’t get hit!" Thor roared, "You damned Ferocious Feather Tribe, what are you doing on Earth?!"
"Obey the will of the Twin Gods!" the leading officer shouted, "Kill them! Conquer Earth!"
Thor, furious beyond measure, struck another lightning at a base. But the opponent clearly regarded him as the most threatening target, soon several warriors surrounded him wielding laser guns, lightsabers, and some peculiar crystal weapons. Thor dodged one threat only to be hit by another, soon accumulating several wounds.
"Thor!" Nearby Captain America and Iron Man in the air looked anxious. They rushed over only to fall into the Shi’ar trap. Two more bases landed, both immediately immobilized. Two lasers struck, one knocking down Iron Man, one sending Captain America flying. In barely two confrontations, The Avengers had fallen into dire straits.
Nick slammed the table, about to call for support, but another gold and red streak sped across New York’s skyline. Nick’s eyes lit up — it was another Avengers team!
