Chapter 526: Central Pillars of the Black Calamity
Even though these zombies are of the Immortal Level, their Law Domains are shattered, filled entirely with evil qi. Even if absorbed by the "Eyes of Eternal Life," the qi must first be purified, making them useless.
The two demons from the Spirit Corpse Sect were quite perceptive along the way, and Zhang Kui was pleased to give them a chance at fortune.
They moved swiftly, far outpacing the others, and as they traveled onwards, unknowingly, the two demons from the Spirit Corpse Sect had already collected dozens of Immortal-level zombies, while the Void Cyan Stone Ancient Dao paths gradually began to converge...
After an unknown amount of time, Zhang Kui suddenly stopped.
"What... what is that?"
Fatty Tiger gaped in astonishment at the scene ahead.
Before them, countless Void Cyan Stone Ancient Dao paths converged into a giant bridge, dozens of miles wide, iced over in a thick layer, exuding a cold, desolate aura.
On either side of the bridge, towering statues a thousand meters high stood erect.
These statues were clad in ancient armor never seen before, with elongated heads adorned with horns, a hundred arms extending from their backs, and giant stone discs standing by them, from an unknown race.
Even the two demons from the Spirit Corpse Sect were filled with curiosity, "Very few have ever been to this place; we’ve never seen this before, could it truly be from an even older race?"
Suddenly, Fatty Tiger shuddered and stammered, "Taoist, don’t you feel like these guys are watching us?"
His words made the two demons from the Spirit Corpse Sect feel uneasy, stepping back in horror, "You’re right, that feeling of being watched seems to come from these statues!"
"Don’t panic!"
Zhang Kui snorted coldly, fully utilizing the Tongyou Skill, immediately noticing the anomaly.
Although these statues appeared to be just carved out of cyan stone, they harbored a universe within, filled with some black crystal stones, and deep within the crystals, ancient corpses were sealed, identical to the race of the statues.
Even more fascinating, these statues functioned like nodes, interlinked with the space of the Ancient Netherworld, with subtle ripples emanating outwards.
Could this be some sort of mechanism?
Zhang Kui furrowed his brow, pondering, then turned and said, "These statues are rather peculiar, I ask you two Taoist friends to send out zombies to probe the way."
"Taoist Friend Zhang is right."
The two demons from the Spirit Corpse Sect didn’t hesitate, immediately casting spells to release a zombie, which dashed forward aflame with sinister black evil fire.
These zombies, though of extremely high quality and scarce in the outside world, even capable of serving as sect-treasures, felt fortunate, finally having purpose and not being discarded as waste.
The zombie howled as it moved, and after passing the statues, indeed triggered a reaction, but the ensuing scene caused chills to everyone present.
The statues trembled slightly, and terrifying "Black Calamity" appeared out of nowhere, oozing like black oil, morphing into the shape of the statues, instantly engulfing the zombie.
These zombies, being of the Immortal Level, could be seen as sources of catastrophe unless someone like Zhang Kui with deep Tao Cultivation or specific methods of restraint could handle them.
Yet, in the hands of these "Black Calamity" transfigured statues, they couldn’t even withstand a single round; their wicked fires and shattered laws were almost instantly obliterated, even their incredibly sturdy bodies melted entirely away.
Fortunately, these statues seemed to act only in passive defense, and after dissolving and devouring the zombie, the "Black Calamity" vanished without troubling them further.
"Damn it, what on earth is this!"
Fatty Tiger’s fur stood on end as he slowly retreated, "Taoist, this thing is too dangerous, we should find another path."
Zhang Kui narrowed his eyes, speaking solemnly, "Dear Taoist friends, please release another one, this time flying past the side of the bridge."
The two demons nodded, sending another zombie into action.
This time, the terror grew, as within the void beside the bridge, "Black Calamity" materialized from nowhere, suddenly transforming into a ten-thousand-meter-tall statue, with jagged fangs gaping, swallowing the zombie in one bite, then disappearing.
The two demons gulped, not waiting for Zhang Kui to say more, they released another zombie, commanding it to use teleportation to cross the bridge directly.
However, the "Black Calamity" seemed to have formed a space barrier, intercepting the zombie mid-air, revealing its figure before being similarly engulfed by a black statue.
The two demons were thoroughly disheartened, giving a wry smile towards Zhang Kui, "Taoist Friend Zhang, with our Tao Cultivation, we cannot pass, it’s said Celestial Ghost Buddha and Nine Calamities Divine Monarch came here a thousand years ago, they must have found a way to enter."
"If Celestial Ghost Buddha arrived first it might be okay, but if Nine Calamities Divine Monarch arrives first, we’d be doomed..."
Zhang Kui’s expression was serious, he remained silent.
Since Nine Calamities Divine Monarch and Celestial Ghost Buddha had been here before and returned once more, they naturally had ways to handle the situation, he even witnessed Nine Calamities Divine Monarch use Tao Principles to repel the "Black Calamity."
But whichever of those two arrives first, he was likely in for a hard time.
What should I do?
Zhang Kui secretly cast the Star Skill for divination, his expression turning more and more grim.
All signs pointed that these statues, "Black Calamity," and the Ancient Netherworld were interconnected, forming a seamless barrier like a trial; no matter how profound his Immortal Skills, without the necessary Tao Cultivation he couldn’t pass.
It seems the only option is to use the Immortal Tower.
Zhang Kui sighed, as only six Evil God Divine Fiends remained sealed within the Immortal Tower, originally coming in here to find more, yet ended up losing instead.
With these thoughts, he waved his hand, as the splendid Immortal Tower appeared, dazzling white light instantly illuminating the dark Netherworld, time halted, and everything seemed thoroughly frozen.
Zhang Kui flicked his hand, and Fatty Tiger along with the two demons, rigid and expressionless, began to float, following him as ripples spread, flying forward.
Indeed, the Immortal Tower’s power was extraordinary, passing by the statues, the "Black Calamity" did not emerge.
Yet Zhang Kui paused, his eyes flickering with dark light, then a faint smile curled upon his lips.
The very reason the Immortal King Tower could suppress Evil God Divine Fiends was due to their shattered Law Domains, though eerie and formidable, they couldn’t form a complete Little World to resist.
Similarly, the autonomy of these statues’ defense likely related to the ancient race corpses sealed within; they had perished countless years ago, how could they possess complete Domain Worlds?
Though uncertain of the gain, at least it wouldn’t be a loss.
With these thoughts, Zhang Kui decided to go all in, formed a spell, and the dazzling Crystal Stone Immortal Tower began to expand, slowly revolving, a giant black hole appeared beneath, generating infinite gravitational pull.
Crack, crack, crack...
The bases of the statues fractured, swirling and shrinking continuously, all drawn into the Immortal King Tower, neither more nor less, exactly one hundred and eight statues.
Zhang Kui chuckled, leading the group swiftly past the bridge, ahead lay a grand continent, black sand spread across the land, grotesque stones were everywhere, silhouetted structures loomed in the distance.
At the same time, the Immortal King Tower’s Time Freeze effect came to an end, the encompassing white light rapidly contracted, everything returning to normal.
The two demons from the Spirit Corpse Sect looked around in confusion, for in their memory, everyone was just distressed, how had they suddenly crossed?
What exactly is this Taoist Friend Zhang?
Could it be they’ve been ensnared in some earth-shattering conspiracy?
Thinking so, they shuddered, lowering their heads, not daring to speak.
Fatty Tiger naturally understood, chuckling as he looked around.
Zhang Kui glanced at the now-empty bridge behind them, just as he was about to continue forward, his expression suddenly changed, as the usually obedient Immortal King Tower suddenly flew out, enlarging as it rotated high above, the black opening beneath reappearing.
What’s happening?
Zhang Kui was bewildered, quickly immersing his mind into the Immortal Tower, seeing those one hundred and eight statues suppressed in the void, bound by golden chains, incessantly vibrating.
Could it be these things cannot be suppressed?
Just then, the entire space of the Ancient Netherworld transformed, black mist surged, Yin Evil winds howled, and grand space fluctuations radiated outward from the Immortal King Tower as the center.
Simultaneously, the ubiquitous "Black Calamity" seemed to have received a summons, pouring in from all directions like rolling black clouds madly rushing into the tower. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Zhang Kui stared in shock, he seemed to understand something.
These statues were actually the core of the "Black Calamity"!
