Cultivation Online - Chapter 2408: Execution Squads(2)
"Bree! That bastard killed Bree!"
After a stunned silence, the demons of the Execution Squad erupted into anguished cries for their fallen comrade, directing their grief and fury toward Yuan, despite the fact that Bree’s death had ultimately been brought about by his own reckless curiosity.
They quickly flew toward Yuan and surrounded him.
"I don’t care who you are, but you will pay for killing our comrade!" one of them shouted at him.
Yuan raised an eyebrow and replied, "How was his death my fault? It’s not like I forced him to speak or anything like that."
"Bastard! It’s because you kept shouting Supreme Ruler Dena that caused—"
The demon hastily covered his mouth when he realized his own mistake, but alas, it was already too late.
The sky above the demon swirled, and the Demon God’s Wrath fell shortly after, instantly vaporizing it.
The demons around that individual scrambled away in the last second, barely avoiding the Demon God’s Wrath.
"J-Jean!"
The demons cried out once more, but this time their expressions were filled with disbelief rather than grief, as it was clear that the demon’s fate had been sealed by his own careless words.
"You’re not going to blame that one on me too, right?" Yuan remarked.
The demons immediately snapped their heads to glare at him with intense killing intent exuding from them.
They had no idea who Yuan was or why the Demon God’s Wrath wasn’t affecting him, but it was clear that he’d indirectly caused the death of two of their comrades.
Seeing the way they glared at him, like a pot on the verge of boiling over, Yuan spoke again, utterly unfazed, "So... care to answer my question? How did you know Supreme Ruler Dena was—"
"I SWEAR TO THE DEMON GOD, IF YOU UTTER THAT NAME ONE MORE TIME!!!"
The demons stood on the brink of attacking Yuan, their restraint hanging by a thread.
The only reason they had not already made their move, despite losing two of their own, was the Supreme Ruler’s strict command to hold off until his arrival.
Moreover, Supreme Ruler Dena’s presence weighed heavily on them. If she chose to intervene, they knew with absolute certainty that none of them would survive.
"What name? Supreme Ruler Dena?" Yuan inquired with a genuine-looking puzzled face.
"FUCK! LET’S KILL THIS BASTARD!"
Just as the demons began to move, a terrifying pressure descended upon them, freezing their bodies in place.
"T-This pressure! It’s her! She’s really here!"
Their expressions darkened, color draining from their faces as the realization settled in. Until now, her presence at the Abyssal Council had only been a suspicion—an educated guess formed after their exchange with the Crimson Broker whom Yuan had questioned. But now there was no doubt.
The next moment, before any of them could even react properly, a figure appeared beside Yuan like a ghost.
It was Supreme Ruler Dena in her original appearance.
Her crimson gaze calmly swept the demons, as if trying to memorize their faces. Then, she muttered in a nonchalant voice, "I heard you were looking for me? Did the current Supreme Ruler send you here?"
"S-Supreme—!"
The demons nearly uttered her name at her sudden appearance.
"What’s wrong? You were looking for me, right? Well, here I am. What are you going to do now?"
Supreme Ruler Dena slowly approached these demons. Yet, none of them dared to move, almost as if they were frozen in fear.
Even when she was a step away from one of them, they merely hovered there in silence like stone statues.
Supreme Ruler Dena quickly lost interest and turned to look at Yuan, asking, "What now?"
"Hmm..."
Yuan pondered for a moment before responding, "Although having the Supreme Ruler come here would save us some time, if we fought here, this entire place would be destroyed. Moreover, we need to head to the City of Blood regardless, so we might as well just meet him there."
He then turned to the Execution Squad and said, "Tell your Supreme Ruler to stay put in the City of Blood because we’ll go to him."
"Shut up! Who the hell do you think you are to command—?!"
The demon’s words died abruptly in his throat when he sensed that a gaze had fallen upon him.
It was calm—eerily so—but the moment he felt it, his entire body stiffened, and a suffocating chill crept up his spine as instinct screamed at him.
Yuan sighed and said, "Even if we want to leave, what can you do to stop us? Do you really think you can stall us long enough for the Supreme Ruler to come? Even without Dena’s help, I can kill all of you before your Supreme Ruler arrives."
"..."
The demons wanted to argue against Yuan’s claims but decided to remain silent.
They exchanged glances, speaking through voice transmission with each other before one finally spoke. "We will inform the Supreme Ruler. However, you must allow one of us to remain here—to ensure you don’t attempt to flee."
"Run away?" Yuan let out a soft chuckle, his tone laced with amusement. "Very well. If leaving one of you behind to spy on us spares us a meaningless fight, we’ll indulge you."
The Execution Squad quickly gathered as they contemplated who to leave behind.
It didn’t take long for them to reach a decision.
Their gazes slowly shifted toward a single figure among them... a purple-skinned female demon.
No one voiced it aloud, but everyone understood why. If something were to go wrong and she were to perish, their loss would matter the least.
The purple-skinned demon didn’t complain and silently nodded her head, quietly accepting her fate.
Then, without another word, both the Special Execution Squad and the Elite Execution Squad left the scene, leaving behind the purple-skinned demon.
"They really left you behind, huh?" Yuan suddenly appeared behind the demon like a ghost and remarked, startling her greatly.
"Get away from me, you freak!" she exclaimed as she distanced herself.
