"But now that you’ve sent the money to Charles Douglas, everyone thinks you sent it to Nonta because of Jennifer Douglas!!"

Skyler Jones reassured Christine Quinn, "Why should you care about what others think?"

Christine Quinn, frustrated, said, "I don’t want you to have any more ties with Jennifer Douglas!"

"I have no ties with her, babe." Skyler Jones gave Christine Quinn a caring kiss, "Don’t you trust me?"

Christine Quinn lowered her gaze, muttering, "I don’t know your heart; maybe you actually do want to help her!"

"Christine!!"

"Alright, alright, I trust you, but still..." Christine Quinn compromised verbally but looked steadfastly at Skyler Jones, "I have a question: even if you sent money to Nonta now, why would anyone speculate that it was you?"

"Because I ran into Jennifer Douglas these past two days."

Christine Quinn’s eyes widened, "Where?"

"The day before yesterday when you were having a check-up, and yesterday when I went to get your report."

"You mean you saw her twice?"

"Yes."

Christine Quinn frowned, "Why didn’t you tell me?"

Skyler Jones embraced Christine Quinn, "I felt running into her was completely insignificant, so I didn’t think I needed to tell you."

"No, why would Jennifer Douglas be at that hospital?" Christine asked sensitively.

Skyler Jones let Christine lean against him, his chin resting on her hair, softly responding, "Her father is ill, also in that hospital, I just happened to meet her."

Christine Quinn scoffed, "Jennifer Douglas is really a lingering presence, she’s deliberately trying to get close to you!"

"Christine..." Skyler Jones coaxed gently, "Firstly, Jennifer Douglas couldn’t have known you would go to that hospital for a check-up, and secondly, her father being hospitalized is a fact."

"Then how was it so coincidental to meet you?"

"Pure coincidence."

Christine Quinn pouted, "I don’t think it’s a coincidence, she always appears around you intentionally or unintentionally, she’s still scheming for you."

Skyler Jones chuckled, "Are all women this petty?"

Christine Quinn suddenly grabbed Skyler Jones’s shirt collar, "Tell me the truth, did Jennifer Douglas ask you for help at the hospital, and that’s why you injected funds into her company?"

"She did ask, but helping her wasn’t because she asked; it’s because Nonta has always had a good reputation in real estate. It’s one of the rare companies that acts conscientiously rather than leeching off people’s wealth. The troubles Nonta is facing now, with so many creditors pushing them, mostly stem from jealousy over Nonta’s strong resolve and seeking to kick them when they’re down."

"Aren’t businessmen all about profit? How come suddenly you’re acting like the good guy?" Deep down, Christine Quinn knew of Nonta’s good reputation both domestically and internationally, and she admitted it would be a shame if it fell. Yet, she just didn’t want Skyler Jones to help Jennifer Douglas.

Skyler Jones gazed deeply at Christine Quinn in his arms, "If you don’t understand, I can withdraw the funds immediately."

"No..." Christine Quinn looked up to meet Skyler Jones’s eyes, "I wasn’t serious... to be honest, I just don’t like Charles Douglas and his daughter, but I do admire Nonta. Nonta’s good market reputation stems from building housing or commercial properties in the city at some of the lowest prices, earning public favor."

"You’re a woman who’s cold on the outside but warm on the inside."

Christine Quinn rested her head on Skyler Jones’s chest, "But I still don’t like Jennifer Douglas... she’d better not try to contact you. If she dares to, I certainly won’t let her off."

Skyler Jones chuckled softly, "As long as you’re not upset."

In the afternoon.

Skyler Jones was about to head home to accompany his wife, as he put on his suit, asking, "What is it?"

The secretary hesitated, stammering for quite some time, "Well... um... it’s Miss Douglas... she..."
