Chillin' on an Uninhabited Island in Another World
Chapter 16: A Fluffy Night
“So, we’ve got a sleeping arrangement problem...”
We didn’t have enough Ordinary Lumber to build another Hut.
“I get that you’ve got a harem fantasy or whatever, So-kun...”
“I never said anything like that.”
I gave a strained laugh and thought for a moment.
“Well, I can make warm clothes out of wool, so I’ll just sleep outside wearing that.”
Thankfully, the night temperature was about like autumn in Japan.
It wasn’t cold enough to be life-threatening, and worst case, we had the campfire.
And if things really got bad, I could ask Chiyu to use Basic Heal—that alone was a huge comfort.
“That’s not allowed.”
But Chiyu immediately objected.
“Y-yeah, I’m against that too! I trust Sousuke, and I’m fine with sharing. I mean, we’re the ones asking to join your group—kicking out the homeowner isn’t even an option.”
“I agree. Even if someone had to stay outside, it should be part of a fair rotation or watch duty.”
Shouko and Shion backed her up right away.
“O-oh...”
I never expected the girls to suggest sleeping in the same room.
It felt warm, like kindness and trust all rolled into one—made me kinda embarrassed too.
“Couldn’t Fenrir knock down a tree or two?”
“Oh, good point. I’d rather not make too much noise at night, but... that could work.”
Chiyu and I turned our gaze toward Shouko.
“Sorry, but Mashiro’s already asleep. I’d rather not wake him if I can help it.”
Sure enough, the big Fenrir was dozing peacefully nearby.
Yeah... waking up the buddy who worked all day just to make myself a bed didn’t sit right with me either.
“Hmph.”
Faced with that, Chiyu didn’t press the issue.
“Heehee, it’s fine, Chiyu-chan. We’ll just have Sousuke-kun on one end, then Chiyu-chan next to him, and then us. That way there’s nothing to worry about.”
“...I don’t care if So-kun builds a harem on the deserted island.”
“Wha—harem!? Chiyu, seriously...”
Shouko’s face went red.
Still... I didn’t expect that kind of comment from Chiyu.
“Right now, the only guy we can count on is So-kun. But there are three girls. If one of us starts monopolizing him, and if So-kun—without meaning to—starts favoring her, things are gonna go downhill fast.”
“I mean... I don’t disagree with the logic...”
Honestly, setting aside whether or not I was “popular,” she made total sense.
Romantic tension screwing up group dynamics is hardly rare—you don’t even need to look at history books. Just scroll social media or think about your own friend group.
In Japan, you could always rely on adults or the cops to mediate stuff like this.
But here, we were nothing but a bunch of high schoolers stuck on a deserted island.
The environment alone made it a bigger deal.
“You’ve got a point, Chiyu-chan. If Sousuke-kun started dating someone, the rest of the group would definitely feel weird about it. In school, we could just drift into different groups or routines—but here, we’re stuck together.”
It was true—we were sleeping together already, and of course we’d all wake up together.
There wasn’t really any option to “go hang with other friends” or avoid things.
“E-ehh? Chiyu, Shion, are you two seriously saying all this?”
Shouko looked ❖ Nоvеl𝚒ght ❖ (Exclusive on Nоvеl𝚒ght) confused.
Honestly, I got it, Shouko. Your reaction was the normal one.
It’s Chiyu and Shion who were just being way too rational about it.
“Well, let’s talk it out between us girls a bit. Sorry to keep relying on you, Sousuke-kun, but could we ask you to prep the inside of the Hut?”
“Uh—yeah. Sure.”
I was already planning to have Shouko and Shion sit by the campfire to dry their hair anyway.
But now, I couldn’t stop wondering what kind of conversation the three of them were about to have.
Still, I had no intention of eavesdropping and ruining the trust we were building. So I headed into the Hut and got to work.
First: floor coverings.
Basically, a carpet. I figured I might as well make it big enough to cover the whole floor. 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
Generated: Wool Carpet — Placed.
It was hard to see clearly in the dark, but a pure white carpet materialized across the room.
I crouched down and touched it.
“Whoa... fluffy.”
It didn’t have any weird smell either.
I guess the sheared wool got auto-processed during generation.
Once again, I was grateful for how insanely versatile the Crafting Ability was.
Next, I generated four Wool Blankets.
Not quite full-on duvets, but they should be warm enough.
I wrapped one around myself just to test it out.
“Yeah, yeah, this is really good. You can feel the upgrade to living standards.”
Sure, cuddling up with Chiyu on a grass mat had been a very nice memory...
But still, having real bedding was a huge step forward.
A-and besides, even without the mat, that kind of stuff was... possible... anyway...
I forced myself to shut down the train of thought spiraling in my head and moved on to the next task.
Time to make Wool Underwear—basically thermal innerwear.
I hesitated for a second about sizes, but the system accepted standard entries like “S,” “M,” and “L.”
I tried generating a medium.
Nice texture. Looked like you could wear it regularly too.
While I was at it, I made top-and-bottom pajamas.
Sweater up top, sweatpants-style bottoms.
I tried them on myself first, switching out of the school uniform.
“Yeah, this’ll work.”
If I remembered right, wool had high insulation and moisture-retention.
Wearing full wool PJs and sleeping in full wool bedding... might actually get too warm?
Well, worst case, I could just take off the sweater.
“The synergy between Crafting Ability and Fluffy Summoning Ability is insane.”
Being able to combine strengths like this was honestly amazing.
I wouldn’t have dared to start logging trees on Day 1 without Chiyu’s Basic Heal.
It wasn’t just the abilities—we were backing each other up in major ways.
When we meet other transfer students later, Shion’s ability will probably shine most.
Having all four ability holders grouped up from the start really was pure luck.
...As I was thinking that—
“So-kun, we’re back.”
The three of them returned.
“O-oh, welcome back.”
“Wow, Sousuke-kun, you changed clothes! Did you make that from the wool? Mind if I touch it?”
Chiyu and Shion seemed like their usual selves—no change from earlier.
But Shouko had her head down a little, fidgeting as she twirled her golden hair between her fingers.
—W-what kind of conversation had they just had?
And what conclusion did they reach...?
As Shion patted my pajamas curiously, I couldn’t help but wonder.
“Whoa, there’s a carpet and blankets too!? Sousuke, you’re seriously amazing! Ahaha...”
Shouko was trying to act normal, but it was clearly not working.
“Hey, Shouko. I don’t know what you three talked about, but... you don’t have to be so tense. That goes for everyone. I swear I’d never force anything anyone’s uncomfortable with.”
That was something I needed to say clearly.
Shion might’ve been using her ability, but that was fine by me.
After all, I wasn’t lying.
“Nah, I know you’re a good guy, Sousuke. That’s not it, it’s just... y’know...”
“Even if you trust someone, embarrassing stuff is still embarrassing, Sousuke-kun.”
“...Yeah, fair enough. I’m nervous too, honestly.”
A weird, hard-to-describe vibe settled over the room.
“So-kun, I want pajamas too.”
In moments like this, I was really grateful for Chiyu.
“Sure, I’ll make some.”
“...Please leave extra room around the chest area. If not, the fabric gets too tight...”
My childhood friend said it softly, like it was hard to admit.
“Wait, you can do that? Then me too, please! Like with dress shirts—if I size for my chest, the sleeves and hem get too long and it looks terrible.”
Shion looked down at her chest with a frustrated sigh.
“...M-me too. Please.”
Guess Shouko had the same problem.
All three of them were pretty busty, so it made sense they’d deal with similar issues.
“G-got it...”
Hearing worries I normally wouldn’t have any access to, I got to work generating their pajamas.
The standard models weren’t gonna cut it, so I switched to selecting individual targets like I had for the stone wall.
“Sorry, but I need to get a good look to adjust the sizing.”
“Look all you want.”
Chiyu took off her uniform blazer.
“Ah, just the jacket is fine—that’ll do it.”
“Ahaha, such a gentleman. You could’ve claimed you needed to see our underwear or something, and I wouldn’t even blame you.”
“You know I can’t lie to you, Shion.”
“Oh, right.”
Shion laughed mischievously.
And so, while trying not to get too flustered, I generated three sets of innerwear and pajamas.
The girls looked delighted as I handed them over, then said they were going to change, so I stepped outside.
While they were changing, I grabbed the ash from the dead campfire and stored it, then did the same around the bath.
Mashiro the Fenrir was still sleeping peacefully.
If any small animal wandered too close, the stone wall would stop them. And if anything really dangerous showed up, Mashiro would protect us.
He was turning out to be one hell of a watchdog.
Thinking that, I looked up at the moon.
Just one, same color as back on Earth—just like the sun.
The fact that we could use abilities was weird, and the transfer was a mystery, sure...
But there was still a chance this was Earth.
If goblins or elves started popping up, that’d settle it fast.
But until we knew more, it didn’t help to overthink.
“So-kun, we’re good now.”
I heard my childhood friend’s voice and returned to the Hut.
There stood three beautiful girls, now all dressed in their new pajamas.
