"Another three are professionals, and even the one with the shortest time in the circle has been there for two years. Everyone has quite a few works to their name, whereas you, an amateur with just one foot at the music doorstep and only one work, so don’t feel upset about not getting the award," Mair Williams was consoling Jane Sampson in advance.

"Don’t worry, I’m not so stubborn," Jane Sampson chuckled, "Look how worried you are about me. I’m an actor, not a singer. Just being able to attend this grand event today, and later stand on stage with Mr. Carter to receive an award, is already an incredible surprise for me. I wouldn’t dare to hope for anything else."

Seeing that Jane wasn’t stretching the truth, Mair was relieved. "I think so too. The Jane Sampson I know always seems too carefree."

"Thank you for the compliment~" Jane Sampson playfully hit Mair Williams, "At this moment, all your culture seems to have gone to the dogs."

In reality, it’s not that Jane has a big heart; she just isn’t that ambitious, simultaneously coveting the crown of Movie Queen while also greedily eying the awards in the singer’s circle.

When the Awards Ceremony officially commenced, Jane and Mair quieted down because, after receiving the invitation, they had been informed that the song Jane and James Carter worked on together won the award for Best Film and TV Music. Therefore, when it came time for Jane and James Carter to go on stage to receive the award shortly after the ceremony started, there wasn’t much excitement.

As she and James Carter held the trophy and certificate, the thank-you speech was something they had agreed upon beforehand, leaving it to James Carter. So while he spoke, Jane stood by his side smiling down at the audience, until James handed the microphone to her, and she spoke a very official twenty words or so.

After receiving the award and stepping down, Jane was noticeably distracted with her mobile phone, every so often glancing at it, then putting it away, only to look at it again after a short while.

Even Mair Williams noticed her behavior.

"Are you waiting for someone? Do you have plans after this?" Mair curiously asked.

"No, I’m just waiting for someone to reply to a message," Jane Sampson shook her head and, fearing more people might notice, truly put away her phone.

But in her mind, she was muttering, why hasn’t James Black replied to her message?

Was he angry again?

That shouldn’t be the case. He’s not such a petty person. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦

For the rest of the time, Jane refocused her attention on the award ceremony. Not unexpectedly, the new newcomer award that Mair mentioned did not fall on Jane Sampson. But being a nominee as an actor, Jane was definitely the center of attention tonight. The evening dragged on until at last, the most important awards were ready to be announced at the very end.

During this time, Mair Williams and James Carter had already been up on stage two or three times. When the time came to announce the New Year’s King and Queen of Songs, the two by Jane’s side were invited up once more.

As a friend, Jane was probably the most excited person back stage, even more so than Mair Williams on stage, clapping so hard it seemed she couldn’t even feel pain.

The award ceremony was livestreamed on the internet. Perhaps because Jane was overtly jovial, the camera panned over her several times, even lingering for quite a few seconds.
