Cave Refuge
Chapter 458 - 353 Absurd Incident Part_2
Just when the survivors thought they had been seeing things, the weapons in the hands of the Government Officials surrounding Dong Tianyu suddenly shattered. These weapons weren’t simply chopped in half; from the looks of the fissures, each weapon must have been hacked at several times with a sharp tool.
As they looked at the remnants of the weapons, chopped into pieces and scattered on the ground, and remembered the short flash of light from just before, they all felt a chill run down their exposed necks.
Seeing the fear in everyone’s eyes, Dong Tianyu continued to smile and said to the man, "Didn’t I just warn you? It’s a pity you didn’t believe that I’m an honest person, so for the loss of these weapons, you must take the primary responsibility."
Dong Tianyu’s words seemed like the greatest mockery to him. Without saying another word, he pressed a button on the electronic device on his belt right in front of Dong Tianyu.
As soon as he pressed that button, air raid sirens suddenly blared throughout the camp. Upon hearing this alarm, the survivors who had been spectating scattered in all directions.
Watching the survivors swiftly flee from the area, Dong Tianyu noted that instead of taking shelter in nearby buildings, they all ran in the same direction.
Seeing the orderly evacuation of those fleeing, Dong Tianyu found it both amusing and felt a pang of sympathy for them. They must be well-practiced in responding to such incidents, either from regular drills or frequent encounters with danger.
Dong Tianyu had not expected that the man, who he initially thought was just a paper tiger, wouldn’t run away; and the Government Officials surrounding him, even though their weapons were now completely destroyed.
From the fear on their faces and the uncontrollable trembling of their bodies, it was clear that they were very afraid of Dong Tianyu. Yet, instead of running away, they continued to encircle him.
While he admired their action, Dong Tianyu had no intention of surrendering—nor did he wish to add to the killing unnecessarily, especially since his System wasn’t an experience-gaining system; killing people wouldn’t earn him any experience.
But standing there wasn’t getting them anywhere, so Dong Tianyu spoke up again, "Less nonsense, speak if you have something to say. Don’t crowd around me unless you think your bodies are tougher than alloy; otherwise, don’t make me unhappy."
Although Dong Tianyu’s tone was somewhat harsh, his words were very clear; in simple terms, he was open to negotiation.
Just as he was ready to breathe a sigh of relief, five or six trucks raced in, screeching to a halt. One by one, soldiers in blue uniforms leaped down from the trucks.
When they saw those who had surrounded Dong Tianyu standing there shakily, and noticed the fragments of firearms on the ground,
they looked at Dong Tianyu with fierce eyes and silently surrounded him once more. Just as they were about to aim their guns at Dong Tianyu, the Government Official in white who had sounded the alarm shouted out, "Don’t!" trying to stop what was about to happen.
Seeing this, Dong Tianyu said with a hint of mockery, "Well done, you didn’t ignore my words this time."
Perhaps the presence of reinforcement emboldened him. Although he had unconsciously tried to stop his teammates from pointing their guns at Dong Tianyu out of fear, the arrival of the backup seemed to give him more confidence, especially upon seeing the people who emerged from the passenger side of those trucks. The Government Official in white now appeared more assertive.
After calming down somewhat, his tone, though not as condescending as at the start, lacked the panic that had been evident when he was previously frightened.
"Hello, let me reintroduce myself. I am the captain of the third section of the Fengyang Security Department; my name is Nolan. Who are you, where do you come from, and what is your purpose here at our camp?" he asked.
Listening to his well-organized words, Dong Tianyu found it hard to associate him with the arrogant demeanor he had shown before.
It was apparent from his current behavior that his initial arrogance must have been an act. After all, to stand out and take a leadership role in the Government Office—a department responsible for camp security—meant that besides his own abilities, someone definitely had given him a leg up.
Seeing more trucks arriving, teaming with armed soldiers, Dong Tianyu knew the situation was likely escalating.
However, he had already sensed the gravity of the situation when the air raid alarm had gone off.
If the other party hadn’t immediately surrounded Dong Tianyu when they appeared, Dong Tianyu would have thought this was a joke about the customs of the northeastern people.
The origin of everything might have started from that sentence, "What are you looking at?"
But when they appeared just now and immediately surrounded Dong Tianyu, even attempting to threaten him with guns, Dong Tianyu understood that this matter was targeting him.
Yet even now, Dong Tianyu still didn’t understand why the camp here was targeting him so; neither before nor after the disaster had he ever visited this place, so he was puzzled about whom he had offended to encounter such a preposterous situation.
Watching more and more soldiers appear around him, Dong Tianyu felt somewhat helpless. Certainly, he couldn’t overcome them in a fight, but hiding wouldn’t be a problem at all.
After all, the Cave was now hidden within chaos, and Dong Tianyu had not yet encountered such ruthless individuals.
However, before figuring out the situation, Dong Tianyu didn’t want to leave in confusion.
Since they had already seen his face, and might even have started investigating his identity, Dong Tianyu gave up on hiding and introduced himself directly, "My surname is Dong. I was just wandering to clear my mind when I happened to find this camp, so I wanted to come in and see, and take the opportunity to restock some consumables.
What exactly is going on? After I entered, it doesn’t seem like I did anything unlawful. Why do you want to capture me?"
Hearing Dong Tianyu say this, the other party immediately waved their hand and speculated, "Our camp has regulations that Awakeners cannot use their Awakening Skills or props within the camp, and if found doing so, they will be punished.
I came to capture you just to stop you from using Awakening Skills. Since your arrival, you’ve been continuously using Awakening Skills.
Inside the camp, it’s like a bright lamp in the darkness, and I came over to remind you to be more discreet with your actions.
But I didn’t expect..."
Dong Tianyu also hadn’t expected that they would have devices capable of sensing Divine Sense. Divine Sense is an intangible thing, yet their instruments could detect it.
Suddenly, Dong Tianyu felt that the effectiveness of Divine Sense was growing increasingly weaker. The scenario he had imagined, where he would be invincible with Divine Sense, had not occurred. Although Divine Sense remained very useful, it was undeniable that on many critical issues, Divine Sense played a minimal role.
Setting aside the issue of Divine Sense for now, the primary concern was to clarify why they were targeting him in the first place.
Dong Tianyu didn’t believe a word of their explanation. How could they justify the earlier behavior of the man acting willfully and then immediately setting off the defense alarm? That needed to be explained.
The biggest question was why they, without saying another word, attempted to label him and take control of him right from the start.
But what they hadn’t expected was Dong Tianyu’s strength. Yet, when they discovered Dong Tianyu’s strength, they chose to hit the air raid alarm immediately, which was highly questionable.
Hearing the Government Official’s narrative, those who had come to support felt that this operation was ridiculous.
Regardless, since they had already arrived and the incident had escalated, the whole event might be absurd, but now that they were there, they would undoubtedly support their own rather than what was right.
