Cave Refuge
Chapter 457 - 353 Absurd Events
Although Pengcheng had already established a fixed waterway with Kyoto, for some reason their currency system hadn’t been synchronized with the Imperial Court. Instead, they were using paper money issued by Pengcheng as the credit currency.
Of course, there were also hard currencies such as gold and silver. Due to breakthroughs in materials, gold and silver had found other uses. Before the Imperial Court made up its mind to unify the currency, gold and silver had once again been given the property of trade equivalency.
However, because they had become consumables, their use by ordinary people was affected, so any larger-scale camps would issue their own credit currency.
The camp was not small, so in Zachary’s view, there must indeed be a ’trade currency’ unique to the camp.
Gold and silver were not unusable, but using them in common shops, one glance at your payment in gold and silver would reveal you as an outsider.
Divine Sense followed that group of people into the tavern, and observing the bustling environment inside, Zachary got a rough estimate of the economic level within the camp.
Watching some customers stuff something that looked like paper money directly into a mountain peak.
Zachary knew his guess was right; the camp had indeed issued its own trade currency.
Having realized this, Zachary, who originally wanted to enter the tavern to gather information, heard at the entrance that a few of the survivors who had just left were headed to the largest local Trade Market, so he simply went in for a quick look and then, as before, followed them to the Trade Market.
Following a few people to the Trade Market, Zachary would never have expected it to be located right at the center of the camp. 𝚏𝐫𝚎𝗲𝕨𝐞𝐛𝕟𝚘𝐯𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝗺
The scale of this Trade Market was even larger than that of the merged Saxon County Camp, and the division of zones within the Trade Market was quite interesting.
The entire Trade Market was divided into four different areas, with shops occupying two areas, while the other two were for individual vendors to set up stands.
Just as Zachary, with the mentality of scavenging for good finds, wanted to go inside to see what was available, out of nowhere, a group of people in white uniforms, armed with fully automatic rifles, surrounded Zachary.
Seeing the appearance of these people, others on the street hastened to hide elsewhere, afraid of getting involved if they didn’t move quickly enough.
Zachary, finding himself surrounded, simply frowned without making any excessive moves.
Perhaps because Zachary did not directly resist, and the other side was not certain of Zachary’s strength, they circled around him and gradually started to close in.
Then, one of the survivors in a white uniform stepped forward and said directly to Zachary, "This is Phoenix Sun City. There is something we need to inquire about; please cooperate and come with us to the government office for questioning."
Hearing the other person’s words, Zachary did not respond directly but merely chuckled lightly.
Although Zachary did not say much on the surface, his Divine Sense, which was originally scanning only nearby circumstances, suddenly expanded rapidly.
Just as Zachary was trying to see if there were any snipers lying in ambush, an alarm suddenly sounded from the device on the belt of the person in front of him.
Upon hearing this alarm, the government officials surrounding Zachary in white clothes immediately raised their weapons.
Feeling threatened with the guns aimed at him, Zachary was very uncomfortable. However, even so, Zachary did not want to be the first to provoke an incident.
Never mind that he was currently in someone else’s camp—considering that China had successfully launched a communications satellite, Zachary was sure his image had already been captured.
If things here were not handled well, regardless of the current lack of a interconnected information network, once the Imperial Court decided to do so, Zachary’s identity could be swiftly revealed.
Having a family as a vulnerability, Zachary intended, as much as possible without compromising his own safety, to not initiate conflict with the Imperial Court.
However, the government officials aiming their guns had already jeopardized his safety, so Zachary spoke up, "Is this the usual way you invite others? With such an approach to invitation, I guess few people would refuse you.
It’s just that I don’t like being pointed at with guns, especially so many of them. So, can you put down your weapons first? Otherwise, I’m afraid I might subconsciously retaliate."
Hearing Zachary speak this way, the person opposite him felt confident of victory and did not take Zachary’s request seriously, but instead rebuked, "Kid, did you ever imagine being pointed at by so many guns? You’re talking about subconsciously retaliating, but even if you’re a Martial Artist of the Inner Breath Realm, within such a dense firing zone, I doubt you’ll be able to make much of a splash."
Hearing the unfriendly words from the other side, Zachary knew that if he didn’t display his high combat ability now, the others would probably treat him as an easy target.
Realizing this, Zachary quietly took out a Flying Sword from the Storage Space, meant for Sword Control.
Just as the other side continued their empty boasting, a white flash like swift thunder suddenly appeared before everyone’s eyes, then disappeared instantaneously before anyone could react.
