Cave Refuge
Chapter 447 - 349: When in Doubt, Blow It Up First
Wendi’s action suddenly made everyone outside the courtyard startle. Had they been taken in by a trap?
Unlike Watson’s situation before, Wendi’s abrupt change of attitude immediately put everyone on high alert.
As Wendi kept beckoning them into the courtyard, all eyes turned to their team leader.
Feeling his team members’ gazes, the leader found himself at a loss regarding the current situation. Although he had completed many missions, he had never encountered such a bizarre occurrence.
"Boss, what do we do now? Should we give up on the mission?"
Hearing the third member’s question, the leader did not answer but instead looked to his younger brother, hoping that his quick-witted sibling could come up with an alternative strategy.
In fact, it wasn’t unusual for the Adventure Team to fail to complete missions; after all, the worst that could happen was losing some money. However, blindly undertaking tasks known to be highly dangerous was not a matter of keeping one’s word, but seeking death.
Seeing his brother’s gaze, Watson, as the younger brother, instantly understood his meaning, though he too was unsure about the eerie situation inside the courtyard.
As the others hesitated, the somewhat impetuous member known as Liu slammed his backpack onto the ground and bluntly said, "If all else fails, I’ll do it." He then emphatically patted the box with his hand.
The team members who knew what was in the box were taken aback by Liu’s rough handling.
Especially the third member, who chided him furiously, "You, six, do you not know what’s inside that box? Do you think we’re in your way out here and want to just send us off?"
Hearing this, the sixth member felt somewhat embarrassed and said to the third with a contrived tone, "Third brother, I was just panicking earlier. Don’t be mad at me, don’t stoop to my level. I’ll listen to you, do whatever you say."
Seeing how quickly the sixth member backpedaled, the third member was left speechless, "Enough, keep it down, let big brother decide."
By now, the situation had reached a stalemate, and the leader had run out of ideas. After seeing Liu’s actions, however, something clicked in his mind.
Faced with this mysterious circumstance and without a clear idea of what to do next, he decided to follow Liu’s suggestion and go in hard, to "cleanse" the ground with bombs.
"Liu, bring your box over," the leader called out.
At the leader’s call, Liu was stunned. His reckless suggestion had just been made in haste, and after the third member’s ’reminder,’ he thought it unlikely that the leader would accept his view.
However, he hadn’t expected the leader to suddenly ask him to bring the box over, seemingly agreeing to his proposal.
When he approached the gate with the box, Watson suddenly asked the third member, "Third, did you bring the thermal imager?"
Recalling the contents of the box, the third member then confidently responded, "I did, I’ll get it for you."
He went over to his box and took out something resembling a monocular telescope, handed it over to Watson, and asked, "Second brother, what do you need this thing for?"
Seeing Watson asking for the thermal imager, the leader immediately grasped Watson’s idea.
Watson took the thermal imager from the third member, switched on the infrared function, and began to survey the situation inside the courtyard.
But when Watson used the thermal imager to check inside, his body uncontrollably began to tremble.
If the naked eye could be deceived by light, an instrument would not be fooled by the same trick.
Through the thermal imager, whether it was Watson or Wendi, both appeared to be connected to several thin threads. Although invisible to the naked eye, these threads, warm to the touch, were still clearly visible in the thermal imager’s view, despite their thinness.
Realizing that the two who had entered the courtyard were controlled by something unknown, Watson followed the red lines to locate the other end of the threads controlling them.
Using the threads as a guide, Watson quickly traced back through the thermal imager to an unassuming corner of the courtyard, where something like a meatball, entwined in many threads, was connected to Watson and Wendi.
Watching Watson’s trembling hands as he lowered the thermal imager, even without him speaking, everyone knew he must have made a new discovery. But what exactly he had seen, something so terrifying that his hands continued to tremble despite shifting his gaze, remained unknown.
After putting down the thermal imaging device, Watson remained silent but passed the device silently to his brother.
At that moment, Dong Tianyu, floating in the sky, saw the people below apparently finding a way to solve the mysterious situation in the courtyard. He too became excited and took out a thermal imager from his Storage Space. Though it was only for civilian use, it possessed all the necessary features.
Looking down from above after donning the thermal imager, Dong Tianyu saw the same thing that Watson had observed moments before.
If it were merely invisible to the naked eye, Dong Tianyu would not be overly concerned at this time. However, the fact that the thing in the corner of the courtyard remained undetected even by Divine Sense made him exceedingly alert.
