Chapter 250: Watching Your Back
"You are not allowed to expose yourself! This is an order!!" Li Zhi’s warning rang out loud and clear through the earpiece Mu Yuze was wearing. For some reason, Mu Yuze felt like it was specifically directed toward him, or it could also be a figment of his imagination.
Right now, he was crouching motionlessly on top of a container three hundred meters away from the battle scene, the scope of his sniper rifle was aimed at Ku Jin’s head whereas his finger was ready on the trigger. Had it not been for Captain Li’s warning as well as the blue-eyed young man who fired the shot first, Mu Yuze would have seized the chance to take the imposter out.
This was the man who had kicked Juan-gege on the chest, this was the man who had ordered a siege on Juan-gege...
Fury roared in his heart and his black-blue eyes were so dark that no light could be reflected within. However, he was careful not to let his killing intent out.
This was something He Juan had taught him all those years ago. The senses of people living in the underworld were different from normal people. They were able to perceive killing intent as easily as tracing the source of light amid the dark; it was practically like hanging up a flashing billboard to announce where the other party’s location was. This was a must-have ability if they wanted to survive in this treacherous world where enemies were always out to take their lives. And if they trained this skill further, then they could detect not only killing intent but also the most fleeting gaze. That’s the reason why He Juan always noticed it whenever Mu Yuze snuck glances at him...
In order to assassinate someone, he had to curb all of his killing intent and become one with his surroundings. Only then could the enemies overlook him. Mu Yuze applied everything He Juan had taught in this one occasion.
He stared at He Juan’s back through the sniper scope and took a deep calming breath to stabilize his emotion.
’Just a little more’, he whispered inwardly. ’Just hold on a little more, Gege. I am watching over your back.’

The air became utterly still once Little Guo made the first shot.
Ku Jin was taken aback for a split second before his expression turned cold, and the gaze he directed toward the blue-eyed young man was dark and hostile as if he was looking at a corpse. "Sirius Morningstar..." he spat out the other’s full name. "Why are you here? This is the adult’s business, children should just go home and have a good sleep. Or... are you not afraid to end up like your brother?"
In a few short sentences, Ku Jin was able to stab him where it hurt the most. Little Guo only had one reverse scale – his brother. He would not bat an eyelid no matter how hard someone provoked him, but once they brought up his big brother... he would instantly become mad!
BANG! BANG! BANG!
Three gunshots were fired in succession toward the container’s body, causing little holes to form on the dented metal surface. Little Guo’s eyes were bloody red as he bit out, "Don’t you dare talk about my brother with your filthy mouth!"
"Why?" The more someone forbade him to, the more Ku Jin wanted to do it. He became all the more energetic. "Is it because—"
"Little Guo!" Chen Youzhi reached the young man in three large steps and grabbed his hand that was holding the gun, preventing him from firing another shot. The scar on his face was twisted as he hollered, "Don’t be affected by his words! Don’t you know how he is? He must be doing it on purpose! Boss Xuan is not stupid. He won’t hide in such an obvious location!"
Hearing this, Ku Jin threw his head back and laughed, amused.
On the side, He Juan’s grip on the gun tightened. He was seriously considering whether to fire a shot right there and then, but... his fingers were shaking and he could not bring himself to release the trigger. His gaze kept drifting to Jia Molei who was almost slumped in Ku Jin’s arms, his breathing shallow and weak. He looked on the verge of losing his consciousness.
He Juan was... afraid. He had never fired a gun before and he had no idea how accurate he would be. Even though he was supposed to have great marksmanship all those years ago, it was XIU who had those great skills, not him! He was really, terribly afraid that Ku Jin would move at the last moment to put Jia Molei in front of him. With the state Jia Molei was in right now, there was no way he would be able to evade a bullet coming his way. If such a thing happened...
No... he closed his eyes despairingly. He could not take this risk. He would never take this kind of risk as long as Jia Molei was still in the other party’s grasp...
Little Guo became even more agitated by Ku Jin’s laughter. Chest heaving furiously, he demanded, "Then where...?!" He tried to struggle out of Chen Youzhi’s grip to no avail. "Where is he?! I have to—" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
All of a sudden, a sharp whistle reverberated through the air. It was just like the sound of a punctured tire that was slowly leaking out air, and the source of it came... from within the container. A sweet smell floated out, faint and hazy, but upon smelling it, the faces of the people in the vicinity abruptly changed, He Juan included.
Even though he had only smelled it once, he would never forget this scent for the rest of his life. This subtle sweet scent... it was AX–03!
"Get out of here!" Chen Youzhi – who was closest to the container – immediately scooped Little Guo up and threw the young man over his shoulder, disregarding the latter’s struggle and frustrated screams. He roared out loud, "It’s an AX–03 bomb!!"
Like a fuse that was lit up in fire, the scene instantly descended into pure chaos. Everyone scrambled to run away from the container as quickly as they could. Alas, when they reached a certain position, they immediately entered the police’s radar and were taken down in a flash. They did not even have the chance to see who was attacking them before their vision turned dark.
A man, who caught sight of this scene, yelled out loud to warn the others. "Police! The police are here...!!"
Under Li Zhi’s command, the main force of the operation no longer hid by the sidelines. They sprung up from the shadows, jumped down from the tall containers and subdued one person after another. However, the people they managed to catch were all the thugs Ku Jin had especially hired to teach He Juan a lesson.
As for the group of men who came in motorboats...
"Boss!" The men shouted out loud as they tried to pull He Juan away only to be deterred by the violent swirl of He Juan’s pheromones. "Boss, we have to get out of here!"
"Let go!" He Juan growled out. He twisted the arm that was reaching out to him and marched toward the center of the explosion. His gaze was fixed on Ku Jin and Jia Molei’s silhouette that were growing hazy amidst the thickening fog, and he was unmoved no matter how many people tried to hold him back. In the end, he could only grit out, "You guys go first!" He had no idea who they were, but he could not possibly ask them to stay with him in the face of danger.
He could not leave without Jia Molei. No matter what, he had to bring the man back with him!
