Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 97: A Miscarriage?
Seraphina Sutton dropped to her knees.
Wren frowned, looking at Seraphina Sutton, who was still clutching her hand.
Seraphina tried to say something more, but Wren suddenly yanked her hand away.
Wren hadn’t used much force, but Seraphina reacted as if she’d been powerfully shoved, stumbling backward.
"AHH—" Seraphina shrieked as she fell hard to the ground.
The next second, her face turned even paler. She clutched her lower abdomen and curled up in pain. "It hurts... It hurts so much..."
Wren froze.
’I barely used any force just now,’ she thought. ’How could Seraphina have fallen so hard?’
Nathaniel Quinn rushed over, shoved Wren aside, and checked on Seraphina.
Just then, she saw a small, dark red stain slowly spreading on Seraphina’s beige maternity pants.
The onlookers gasped.
"Oh my god, she’s bleeding!"
"Someone call an ambulance, quick!"
Wren panicked too. As much as she disliked Seraphina, she had never wanted to harm the baby in her womb.
She quickly knelt to check on Seraphina’s condition.
She took out her phone, dialed 911, and gave a detailed account of the situation and their location.
After hanging up, she looked at Seraphina groaning in pain on the ground, a wave of unease washing over her.
The ambulance arrived quickly, and the paramedics lifted Seraphina onto a stretcher.
The ambulance sped away with sirens wailing, leaving Wren standing alone. The crowd gradually dispersed, but their strange looks felt like needles pricking her skin.
Wren took a deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
She drove to the hospital, her mind a chaotic mess.
Wren didn’t know why Seraphina had suddenly started bleeding, nor did she know if the baby could be saved.
When she arrived at the hospital, Seraphina had already been taken to the emergency room.
Kaden Xavier had also received the news and rushed over.
Nathaniel Quinn’s hands were covered in Seraphina’s blood as he paced back and forth in the hallway. When he saw Wren approaching, he lunged at her, ready to strike.
"Wren! You venomous bitch! If anything happens to Seraphina and the baby, I’ll never let you go!"
Wren sidestepped his attack, suppressing the panic in her heart and looking at him calmly. "Nathaniel Quinn, calm down. We don’t know what happened yet. What makes you so sure it’s my fault?"
"What happened?" Kaden Xavier’s voice was heavy.
Nathaniel Quinn immediately interjected, "Cole, it was Wren! She pushed Seraphina, who fell and started bleeding a lot! They’re trying to save her in there right now!"
Kaden Xavier looked at Wren, his expression complicated. "Wren, is that true?"
Wren looked at him, a wave of disappointment washing over her.
"I didn’t push her. She grabbed my hand."
"Didn’t push her?" Nathaniel Quinn sneered. "Wren, so many people saw it. I’ve already watched the security footage. How dare you deny it? Do you want me to call all those ladies to testify?"
Wren clenched her fists. "Nathaniel Quinn, I’ll say it again: I didn’t push her. I was just trying to leave, and she wouldn’t let go of me."
"You still shouldn’t have laid a hand on a pregnant woman!" Nathaniel Quinn roared. "Wren, you’re a woman too. How could you be so cruel?"
Kaden Xavier’s expression grew darker.
He looked at Wren, his voice low. "Wren, why did you go looking for Seraphina Sutton?"
Wren was taken aback. "I didn’t go looking for her. She blocked the entrance to View Gardens early this morning, insisting I forgive her. When I refused, she grabbed me and wouldn’t let go, even saying she would kowtow to apologize."
She looked at Kaden Xavier. "Do you believe me? It was obvious she fell on purpose."
"Fell on purpose?" Nathaniel Quinn sounded like he’d heard a joke. "Wren, do you have any idea what you’re saying? Seraphina is so careful with this baby, why would she fall on purpose? Do you have any idea how much she’s suffered to protect this pregnancy?"
Kaden Xavier listened in silence, his gaze shifting between Wren and Nathaniel Quinn.
Finally, he spoke. "Let’s wait for the doctor to come out."
The three of them fell into silence.
The only sounds in the hallway were Nathaniel Quinn’s anxious pacing and the harsh glare of the red light above the emergency room door.
After what felt like an eternity, the emergency room doors finally opened.
A doctor walked out, took off his mask, his expression grave.
"Who is the patient’s family?"
Kaden Xavier stepped forward. "We are. Doctor, how is she?"
The doctor sighed. "The mother is stable, but we couldn’t save the baby. We did everything we could."
Nathaniel Quinn rushed forward. "The baby’s gone? Doctor, please, try again! Seraphina can’t lose this baby."
The doctor shook his head. "I’m sorry, we did our best. The patient is stable now and has been moved to a regular room, but she’ll need a lot of rest."
Nathaniel Quinn’s face went deathly pale. He whirled around to glare at Wren, his eyes filled with hatred. "Wren, did you hear that? The baby is gone! You killed Seraphina’s child!"
Wren’s heart sank to the pit of her stomach.
’I know I didn’t push her,’ she thought, ’so why would Seraphina sacrifice her own baby’s life to frame me?’
Not only could Wren not figure it out, but Kaden Xavier couldn’t understand it either.
Kaden Xavier’s expression was grim as well.
He looked at Wren, his gaze complex. "Wren, go buy some water. I’ll handle things here."
"Cole, what do you mean by that?" Nathaniel Quinn looked at him in disbelief. "You’re just going to let Wren leave? She killed Seraphina’s baby!"
"I said I’ll handle it." Kaden Xavier’s voice turned cold. "Nathaniel, calm down."
"How am I supposed to calm down?" Nathaniel Quinn yelled. "Cole, that was Seraphina’s baby! She cared so much about that child! How devastated will she be when she finds out it’s gone? How can you tell me to calm down?"
Kaden Xavier’s eyes darkened.
"Wren, you should go for now."
Wren nodded. She knew that insisting on staying was not a wise choice at the moment.
By the time Wren returned, Seraphina Sutton had woken up.
When Wren returned to the hospital carrying a few bottles of water and some simple food, the atmosphere in the hallway was noticeably heavier.
Nathaniel Quinn stood at the door to the hospital room, his face ashen. When he saw her, his eyes practically shot fire. 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
The door to the room was ajar, and Seraphina’s intermittent sobs could be heard from inside.
"Kaden... I’m so useless. I couldn’t protect my and Asher’s baby... My baby is gone..."
Wren’s steps faltered for a moment, but she pushed the door open and went inside.
Inside the room, Seraphina was propped up in bed, her face as pale as paper, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
Kaden Xavier stood by the bed, his back to the door, his expression unreadable.
Hearing the door open, Seraphina looked up. The moment she saw Wren, she seemed to snap, becoming suddenly agitated.
"Wren! It’s you! You killed my baby!" Seraphina’s voice was sharp and shrill. She pointed a trembling finger at Wren. "How could you be so heartless? That was a life! How could you bring yourself to do it!"
Wren stood her ground, looking at her calmly. "I didn’t push you."
"You’re still trying to deny it!" Seraphina cried even harder, turning to Kaden Xavier and grabbing his sleeve. "Kaden, you have to believe me, she really did push me! I was just trying to ask for her forgiveness, but I never imagined she could be so cruel... She just shoved me to the ground..."
She was sobbing so hard she could barely breathe. "I know she hates me, hates me for coming between you two. But the baby was innocent... That was Asher’s child, Asher’s only bloodline in this world... Wren, how could you be so venomous..."
