Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 89: I Think I Hate Him
Wren Wynter calmly watched Lana Xavier’s meltdown, picking up a glass of water from the side and taking a sip.
"I know."
Kaden Xavier said coolly.
Wren’s hand, holding the glass, froze. All three of them looked at Kaden Xavier with surprise.
"Brother, you know? If you know, why haven’t you divorced this woman!? She’s cheating on you!"
Lana Xavier was in disbelief, her eyes wide. Her voice was sharp and bordering on hysterical.
"That gentleman is a friend of Wren’s and mine. We just ran into each other and said hello."
Kaden Xavier walked to Wren Wynter’s side and casually draped an arm over her shoulder.
Wren was a little surprised. She hadn’t expected Kaden Xavier to be so affectionate with her right in front of Seraphina Sutton.
’Isn’t he afraid of making Seraphina Sutton jealous?’
"Alright, if there’s nothing else, you two should leave. It’s getting late."
"Brother!"
"Lana Xavier!" Kaden Xavier’s tone was stern. "If I ever hear you speak ill of your sister-in-law or try to stir up trouble in our marriage again, don’t even think about coming to see me anymore."
Lana Xavier’s face was a mask of disbelief. She had been spoiled by her family since she was a child, and even Kaden Xavier rarely spoke to her so harshly.
This was the first time he’d ever used her full name, and it was for Wren Wynter’s sake!
Seeing things were going south, Seraphina Sutton quickly stepped forward and took Lana Xavier’s arm, saying in a soft, gentle voice, "Kaden, don’t scare Lana. She’s still young and doesn’t know any better..."
"She’s an adult. She’s not young anymore!"
Kaden Xavier showed Seraphina Sutton no courtesy whatsoever, and a flash of embarrassment crossed Seraphina’s face.
"Both of you, go home."
"Hmph!"
Furious, Lana Xavier stomped her foot hard, shot Wren a glare, and turned to leave.
’I’m totally innocent here,’ Wren thought. ’I didn’t do anything, so why is this all being blamed on me?’
Seraphina Sutton also pretended to be understanding, nodding before she turned and left.
Only after both women had gone did Kaden Xavier release Wren’s shoulder. But then he grabbed her wrist, his expression dark as he stared at her.
"Wren Wynter, you are still Mrs. Xavier. Watch how you conduct yourself in public!"
"If you’re so afraid of being embarrassed, then let’s get a divorce!"
’Is she threatening me with divorce again?’
Kaden Xavier suppressed the rage in his heart. Frowning, he impatiently let go of her hand.
"You want a divorce? Not a chance!"
"You!"
Wren couldn’t understand what Kaden Xavier was thinking. He was clearly entangled with Seraphina Sutton, yet he still refused to divorce her.
She didn’t want to argue with him anymore, so she turned, went upstairs, and locked her bedroom door.
When it was time for dinner, Butler Chandler called Wren down to eat, and only then did she realize Kaden Xavier wasn’t home.
’He probably went to see Seraphina Sutton,’ she thought. ’After putting on that show of affection with me right in front of her, he must have to go and smooth things over now.’
’Fine by me.’
Wren was happy for the peace and quiet. This way, she wouldn’t have to worry about Kaden Xavier getting handsy with her in the middle of the night.
After dinner, Wren was about to head back to her room to rest when she suddenly got a call from Crystal Nash.
"Wren, you have to come... come..."
Before Crystal Nash could finish, the phone was snatched away by Joy Lynch, who was beside her.
"Wren! Come have a drink with us!"
"Why are you so drunk? Crystal, Joy, where are you? I’m on my way."
"Wren, I just sent you the address. Hurry over, I’m losing control of this girl."
"Okay, wait for me."
Wren hung up and hailed a cab to the address Crystal Nash had sent her.
「The Bar.」
"Wren..."
"Wren! You’re finally here! I missed you so much!"
Joy Lynch rushed forward first, throwing her arms around Wren’s neck and clinging to her like a koala.
"Alright, alright, Joy. What’s wrong?"
Wren soothed, gently patting her on the back.
Crystal Nash came over to help with the drunken Joy Lynch, and together they guided her to a nearby booth.
"Crystal, what happened?"
"Who else? Your senior."
Crystal Nash gave Wren a helpless look and told her the whole story from beginning to end.
It turned out that Joy Lynch had been pursuing Ho-ran Park for a while now, but he was a total block of wood—a dense one at that. No matter what Joy said, he just wouldn’t say yes.
And if not saying yes wasn’t bad enough, he even used a nurse from the hospital to provoke Joy. Now, she’d completely given up.
Wren felt helpless as well.
She knew that Ho-ran Park was completely devoted to medicine and absolutely clueless when it came to romance. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
The very picture of an innocent, naive guy.
She had tried to warn Joy Lynch beforehand, but she still got hurt.
"I’m never going to like that Park guy again! Never! Anyone who wants him can have him!"
Joy Lynch was dead drunk, but there was something cute about her drunken antics.
Wren shook her head helplessly and ordered herself a strong whiskey.
The three of them hadn’t had much luck when it came to love.
Even though Crystal Nash and Hugh Hale seemed so sweet together now, they had actually gotten together back in college, and their relationship had been incredibly rocky.
Sometimes she wondered, why couldn’t any of them just let go and move on?
Lost in thought, she downed the strong liquor in one go. Her throat burned uncomfortably, but her mind felt incredibly clear.
"Ho-ran Park, you bastard! You don’t like me? Well, I don’t give a damn about you! Go be with whoever you want! I’m done chasing after you!"
Joy Lynch grabbed a glass from the table and smashed it on the floor. Wren moved to stop her but was held back by Crystal Nash.
"Just let her vent. If she doesn’t get this out of her system, she won’t let it go."
Crystal Nash swirled the glass in her hand. The red liquor reflected her image, but her exquisite features were clouded with sorrow.
’Looks like all three of them have something on their minds tonight,’ Wren thought.
"Wren, Hugh Hale proposed to me."
Crystal Nash, who had been silent for a long time, suddenly spoke up. The words instantly sobered Wren up.
"That’s a good thing, isn’t it? You two are finally getting your happy ending."
"But I turned him down."
"What?"
Wren was stunned.
The Nash and Hale families were old family friends. Their marriage had been arranged since they were children. Now that it was about to happen, why would Crystal Nash back out at this moment?
"Why?"
"I don’t want to, Wren." Crystal Nash tilted her head back, a sad, bitter smile on her lips. "Every time I remember him telling me he hated me, and then kissing another woman... it just makes me feel sick."
"I’ll never be able to forget that day. I think... I hate him."
Wren fell silent. She knew what Crystal was talking about—an incident that had nearly ruined Hugh Hale’s future.
"He’s been calling me constantly these past few days, but I haven’t answered a single one. I even blocked his number. I guess this is how my life will be. Not getting married is fine. Being alone is fine, too."
Wren patted Crystal Nash’s shoulder, remaining silent.
The three of them... none was better off than the others.
Suddenly, someone rushed over in a great hurry, stopping right behind them.
"Hello, excuse me. Is Joy Lynch here?"
