Captain Xavier, Your Wife Has Signed the Divorce Papers
Chapter 80: Not Anymore
"I heard Kaden was in an accident, so I wanted to come see him." Seraphina Sutton feigned innocence. "I actually feel quite guilty."
Her tone shifted as she spoke. "If Kaden hadn’t been going to inspect that plot of land, he wouldn’t have..."
Wren’s face remained impassive in the face of Seraphina’s deliberately cryptic showboating.
’What a great man Kaden Xavier is,’ she thought. ’Not only does he spend a fortune on the woman he loves, but he even disregards his own safety.’
’What he’s done for me pales in comparison.’
’Maybe his grandmother was the one who told him to buy View Gardens and take care of Uncle Chandler.’
"Thank goodness Kaden is okay. Otherwise, I would have been heartbroken."
Looking at that face pretending to be sad, Wren suddenly found it laughable.
On one hand, Kaden Xavier refused to let her go, no matter what. On the other, he was still tangled up with Seraphina Sutton.
’Men... they’re all the same.’
’You always want what you can’t have.’
"On Kaden’s behalf, I’d like to thank you, Dr. Wynter, for taking care of him."
"In what capacity are you thanking me on his behalf? As his ex-girlfriend or his mistress?" Wren retorted, unmoved.
Seraphina hadn’t expected Wren to be so brutally blunt. Her face paled slightly, and she quickly hid the venomous hatred deep in her eyes.
"Dr. Wynter, how can you say something so nasty?"
"I can be even nastier. Want to hear it? Seraphina Sutton, know your place. Don’t come looking for trouble with me again. I’m not Kaden Xavier, and I’m not Nathaniel Quinn."
After issuing her warning, Wren turned and left.
Watching her retreating figure, Seraphina was so angry her nails dug into her own flesh.
She had thought Wren would get angry and argue with her. Then, she could use the opportunity to play the victim in front of Kaden.
But Wren refused to play by the rules, leaving her feeling incredibly frustrated.
’That bitch can only be so self-righteous because she’s still married to Kaden. Once they’re divorced, we’ll see how arrogant she can be.’
At this thought, Seraphina composed her features, put on a worried expression, and pushed open the door to Kaden’s hospital room.
"Kaden, are you okay? I heard you were in a car accident. You scared me to death!"
Kaden Xavier had been resting with his eyes closed. Hearing her voice, he frowned slightly. "Why are you here?"
"I was worried about you." Seraphina sat down by the bed and reached for Kaden’s hand, but he pulled it away.
Her expression stiffened for a moment before she quickly recovered. "Kaden, how are you feeling? Does it still hurt?"
"I’m fine," Kaden said flatly. "You’re pregnant. You shouldn’t be running around. Stay home and take care of yourself."
"But I was worried about you," Seraphina said. "Kaden, I just ran into Dr. Wynter at the door. She... she didn’t seem very happy to see me visiting you."
Kaden didn’t speak, merely watching her quietly.
"Kaden..."
Kaden closed his eyes, no longer looking at her. "You should go. From now on, don’t come looking for me unless it’s important."
Seraphina couldn’t believe it.
"Assistant Lynch," Kaden called out.
Assistant Lynch, who had just used the restroom, rushed out without even washing his hands. "Mr. Xavier."
"Escort Miss Sutton home," Kaden ordered.
"Yes, sir." Assistant Lynch walked over to Seraphina. "Miss Sutton, if you please."
"Well then, Kaden, I won’t disturb you any longer."
Seraphina bit her lip, forced to leave resentfully.
’Kaden Xavier, you forced my hand.’
...
「That afternoon.」
Kaden insisted on being discharged. The doctor couldn’t dissuade him and had to agree, repeatedly reminding him to rest and change his dressings on time.
Kaden walked out of the hospital, where Assistant Lee was already waiting at the entrance. "Mr. Xavier, will you be returning to the office or to View Gardens?"
Kaden got into the car. "Wait for Wren."
Assistant Lee nodded respectfully. "Understood."
At five o’clock, people began to leave the hospital for the day.
Kaden’s gaze was fixed on the main entrance.
Five minutes later, he saw her.
Wren had changed out of her white coat and was now wearing a beige trench coat. Her hair was tied in a low ponytail, making her look like a college student who had just stepped off campus. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Walking out with her was Mason Shaw.
The two seemed to be discussing something. A gentle smile was on Mason’s face, and Wren would occasionally nod, offering a faint smile in return.
Kaden’s expression hardened, his eyes turning ice-cold.
’The married woman Mason Shaw is interested in is my wife?’
Just then, Mason seemed to say something, and Wren laughed again.
The smile was faint, but it was genuine.
He hadn’t seen it in a very long time.
Kaden’s heart felt a sharp prick, as if stabbed by a needle.
He opened the car door, got out, and walked up to Wren. He naturally took the bag from her hand. "Wren, I’m here to take you home."
The smile vanished from Wren’s face instantly. "No need. I can get home by myself."
"It’s on my way." Kaden’s gaze drifted hauntingly toward Mason. "Dr. Shaw, you’re here too? What a coincidence."
Hearing the familiar tone between them, Mason was taken aback, a flicker of something in his eyes. "Mr. Xavier, Dr. Wynter performed a very successful surgery today. I was just about to ask her to dinner to celebrate. Would you like to join us?"
"Thank you for the kind offer, Dr. Shaw, but I’ll just celebrate with my wife at home. We’ll have you over as a guest at our house some other time." Kaden intimately wrapped his arm around Wren’s shoulder. Though his words were polite, every syllable was a declaration of his claim.
At that moment, how could he not understand that the married woman Mason was interested in was his own wife?
"Wren, what do you say?" Kaden asked, pointedly looking at her.
Wren struggled, but gave up when it proved futile. She glared at him and nodded with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. "Mm."
Mason’s gaze swept slowly between the two of them.
’Kaden Xavier’s wife is Wren?’
’What a coincidence.’
Mason let out a soft, low chuckle, a smirk playing on his lips. "Dr. Wynter, since Mr. Xavier is here to pick you up, I’ll be on my way. See you tomorrow."
"See you tomorrow."
After Mason left, Wren’s expression turned completely cold. "Kaden Xavier, what is the meaning of this?"
Kaden adopted a matter-of-fact tone. "I’m picking my wife up from work. Is there a problem?"
"We’re already divorced!" Wren hissed in a low voice.
"That divorce agreement doesn’t count." Kaden grabbed her hand and started walking toward the parking lot. "Wren, stop making a scene. Come home with me, okay?"
Wren tried to shake his hand off, but he only gripped it tighter.
She glanced around. A few people were already looking in their direction.
She didn’t want to make an ugly scene at the hospital entrance, so she endured it.
As soon as she got in the car, Wren immediately flung Kaden’s hand away, moved to the seat furthest from him, and turned to look out the window.
After the car had traveled some distance, Wren finally spoke. "Kaden Xavier, don’t come to the hospital to pick me up anymore. I don’t want people to get the wrong idea."
"What wrong idea?" Kaden asked. "We’re husband and wife. It’s perfectly natural for me to pick you up from work."
"We’re not." Wren’s beautiful eyes glared at him as she repeated firmly, "Kaden Xavier, the divorce agreement went into effect long ago. Pestering me like this will only make me hate you more."
"Wren, do you really hate me that much? Do you really not want to see me?" Kaden’s lips twitched, anxiety breeding restlessly in his heart.
He didn’t understand why Wren was so insistent on a divorce.
In the past, they had fought and given each other the silent treatment over Seraphina Sutton before.
’But didn’t things always turn out okay every time?’
