"As my ex-husband, please conduct yourself appropriately."

The words "ex-husband" stabbed deep into Kaden Xavier’s heart.

But he acted as if he hadn’t heard, his grip on Wren Wynter only tightening.

"Get lost." He had no patience for Shaun Quinn, especially seeing him at Wren Wynter’s side.

Shaun Quinn remained unmoved. "This isn’t a place for you, Mr. Xavier. Please don’t cause trouble for us!"

Wren Wynter finally wrenched her hand free from Kaden Xavier’s and hurried to stand behind Shaun Quinn.

Kaden Xavier lunged forward to grab her, but Shaun Quinn sidestepped to block his path.

"You’re not welcome here." Shaun Quinn gestured for him to leave.

Kaden Xavier’s expression darkened. "I shouldn’t be here? Then I suppose you should? She’s my wife!"

Shaun Quinn’s face was cold. "She’s your ex-wife! When will you ever learn to respect Wren’s wishes? She’s an independent person, not a lifeless puppet for you to manipulate as you please!"

Kaden Xavier fell silent.

He knew he had wronged Wren Wynter terribly and wanted to make it up to her.

Which was all the more reason he couldn’t let her stay here and risk her life.

"She can’t stay here..."

"Enough, Kaden Xavier!" Wren Wynter cut him off, her voice raised.

"I don’t care why you’re here, but I’m telling you right now, I’m not leaving with you. I’m needed here, so I’m staying."

Kaden Xavier stared into the determination in Wren Wynter’s eyes, momentarily stunned and at a loss for words.

Shaun Quinn shot him a scornful look before turning to lead Wren Wynter away.

Kaden Xavier watched Wren Wynter’s retreating figure, his expression complex.

He had come to Aferia alone this time.

Lucas Lynch was handling company affairs for him back home.

Besides, Lucas Lynch had been with him for so long that he could easily handle the most basic tasks on his own.

After returning, Wren Wynter went right back to bandaging the wounded.

There was no shortage of new patients today.

Every day, waves of injured people were brought in.

Over time, Wren Wynter had gradually grown accustomed to it.

Catherine, who had observed the earlier scene, leaned over curiously. "Who was that?"

Wren Wynter replied flatly, "My ex-husband."

"Ex-husband?"

"We’re divorced." Wren Wynter glanced up at her. "Why?"

"He’s gorgeous. Exactly my type."

As Catherine spoke, the movements of Wren Wynter’s hands paused for a noticeable moment.

Seeing that Wren Wynter didn’t seem to object, Catherine ventured boldly, "Dr. Wynter, you don’t still like him, do you?"

"No, I don’t."

"Well, if you don’t like him anymore, can I try to pursue him?"

’I fell for him at first sight.’

’I’ve never seen such a charismatic man in my entire life.’

’But he was Dr. Wynter’s man.’

’If Dr. Wynter doesn’t mind, I’m going to see if I can win him over.’

Wren Wynter wasn’t surprised by this at all.

Kaden Xavier was the kind of man people fell for at first sight. She herself had once been captivated by that intense feeling, completely submerged in it.

So much so that she only found her way back from the brink after being covered in scars.

Wren Wynter suppressed her emotions and smiled. "You can give it a try!"

"Oh, God! I love the way he looks. I can’t imagine how happy I’d be if I could be his wife. Since you don’t have any objections, Dr. Wynter, should I make my move?"

Catherine leaned in close to Wren Wynter, heedless of anything else. Her future happiness was more important.

’I have a feeling that if I miss out on this man, I might never meet anyone else I like as much.’

Wren Wynter gave a perfunctory nod.

"What’s that gentleman’s name? What does he like?" Catherine pressed.

"You can ask him yourself. That’s one way to get closer."

Hearing Wren say this, Shaun Quinn, who was standing nearby, couldn’t help but hide a smile.

Wren Wynter finished bandaging the patient beside her and moved on to the next one, adding over her shoulder, "If you really like him that much, you should try to get to know him first!"

"Dr. Wynter, I’m dying! I like him so much!" Catherine said. "If he and I get together, I’ll never forget you."

Wren Wynter: "..."

’That really won’t be necessary.’

After saying her piece, Catherine went to find another volunteer to take over her shift.

’Dr. Wynter’s ex-husband is an absolute dreamboat. If I’m going to make a move, it has to be now.’

Once her shift was covered, Catherine asked for directions and found her way to Kaden Xavier’s temporary quarters.

Kaden Xavier’s exceptional presence made him stand out from the crowd, causing her brown eyes to light up. She said enthusiastically, "Hello, sir. I’m a colleague of Dr. Wynter’s. Would you mind telling me your name? I’m Catherine. Your future wife!"

Kaden Xavier looked up at the mention of "Wren Wynter." He saw a familiar look of adoration in Catherine’s eyes and felt an instinctive revulsion, his brow furrowing.

The head of his security detail stepped forward to block Catherine’s approach. "Ma’am, this is a private area. Please leave at once."

The area they occupied was a protected, private compound that Kaden Xavier had rented at a high price. It was regularly patrolled and guarded, so even the warring factions didn’t dare approach.

Catherine reached out, trying to push past the bodyguard. "Get out of my way. I’m talking to Wren’s friend."

Hearing Wren Wynter’s name, Kaden Xavier gave a slight cough.

The head of security stepped aside.

Catherine moved closer. "What’s your name?"

’Looking at the handsome man before her, she felt like every single one of his features was perfectly tailored to her tastes.’

’He’s so handsome!’

"Dr. Wynter told me I could try to pursue you."

’She felt a little pathetic, not even knowing the name of her crush.’

When Kaden Xavier heard that Wren Wynter had given Catherine permission to pursue him, his expression immediately darkened.

Kaden Xavier’s reaction hurt Catherine a little, but she still summoned her courage to speak again.

"I like you! Let’s get together!"

Kaden Xavier gave her an indifferent glance, feeling no interest in her whatsoever.

"Or, we could just try getting to know each other first," Catherine offered in a softer tone.

’It’s impossible to meet a good-looking man in a war zone, especially a total dream guy like Kaden Xavier.’

’She was absolutely certain this was the man she wanted.’

’If she couldn’t win him over, she couldn’t imagine how much she’d regret it later.’

But the stern man simply shot a look at the head of security, signaling for him to escort her away.

Stepping between them, the head of security led Catherine away.

"Hey, hey! What are you doing? Let me go!"

Kaden Xavier’s face was grim, his eyes filled with unconcealed fury.

’Wren Wynter actually pushed him onto another woman. In her eyes, was he some desperate man who would take whatever he could get?’

Kaden Xavier took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing his rage. He decided he would find Wren Wynter the next day and set things straight.
