Chapter 87

’Just what the hell is going on for fuck sake? Isn’t this damn healing water supposed to work?’

Alex took a deep breath, trying to calm himself down.

’Ok, ok. Alex just calm down. It’s almost like four minutes now, so you still have enough time... Oh who am I kidding?’

Just at the point where Alex was about to give up and accept his damn fate, Lily’s pinkie finger suddenly twitched, filling his bummed heart with hope.

Then her breathing steadied. After that, the change finally began. Tho, it looked subtle at first, it was still unmistakable.

The unnaturally pale pallor of her skin started to fade, replaced by a faint hint of color. The sunken hollowness in her cheek naturally began to fill out gradually, even her frail frame began regaining some of its lost weight as if time itself was personally reversing its damage.

By the time half a minute had passed, the transformation that had just taken place was completely undeniable.

Her pale skin just moments ago now held a healthy, rosy glow. Her breathing that was almost non-existent was now as steady as a rock. And so the fragile, dying girl from earlier was completely gone, replaced by someone who looked flawless and full of life.

Tho her hair had not yet grown back, everything else had been totally restored. At that second her long lashes began to flutter together. Then slowly her eyes opened.

Everywhere looked kind of blurry at first but then it began to turn clear. And the first thing her bright grey eyes landed on was the young man standing over her. Through the slightly hazy fog of her recovery she saw someone who looked like an angel sent to take her to the pearly gates.

The afternoon sunlight was not helping matters at all, the golden light was practically streaming through the window, catching the sharp angles of Alex’s face and making his eyes look like sparkling emerald gems.

To a sixteen year old girl like her who had literally spent months if not years, staring at the boring ceiling and waiting for death, the man before her looked like a freaking Greek god descending from Olympus.

And the fact that his beautiful face held a warm smile seemed to make her stupid heart beat fast, almost skipping a beat entirely. For a moment, her mind struggled to process what she was seeing.

"A-are... Y.. you ...A.. angel?" She whispered weakly, her voice soft and fragile but at least it was no longer filled with pain.

Because to her, in that moment between life and death, he looked exactly like one. Alex didn’t respond immediately, instead he was busy almost crying tears of joy internally.

If the body recovery water hadn’t worked then he would have been seen as a fraud, and would have lost the perfect opportunity of gaining such a capable person like Andre.

Just before he could ask her how she was feeling, the door suddenly burst open with a loud bam!

"LILY!"

Andre rushed in with a voice filled with panic and fear, completely ignoring the five minute agreement from earlier. He was followed by a confused nurse who was trying to grab his arm.

"Sir, you can’t be in here! The patient is..."

Andre froze mid step. He looked at the bed, fully expecting to see the pale, dying shell of his daughter. But instead, all that he saw was his Lily sitting up slightly, with her face glowing with a health he hadn’t seen in years.

"L... Lily." He whispered while slowly taking a step forward. Then another.

His hands even began to tremble as he reached out to touch her. He was even almost afraid that if he touched her, she would disappear like a dream.

"... Lily?" He called softly again.

The girl turned her head slowly.

"Dad?" She said, her voice weak but clear.

That was all it took. Andre collapsed to his knees beside the bed, grabbing her hand as tears of joy streamed down his face uncontrollably.

"You’re... You’re okay..." He choked out while holding her face. "You’re actually okay..."

He laughed and cried at the same time, completely overwhelmed beyond words. Then after regaining a bit of his senses, he slowly turned his head.

His gaze landed on Alex who was just watching the heartfelt scene between father and daughter, with a faint smile on his lips. Andre at this point realized that the young man standing before him was anything but ordinary. Because there was no way an ordinary person could do what he just did right now.

But he didn’t care whether the young man was good or bad. Just for giving his precious daughter’s a second shot at life, he owed this man his life.

Alex noticed Andre’s fervent gaze filled with awe and a terrifying level of devotion. Good! That is exactly what he wanted. Now he was sure as hell that he had now gained a loyal subordinate who would never think of betraying him.

Alex tilted his head toward the door, signalling for Andre to follow him out for a moment. Andre stood up, kissed his daughter’s forehead, and walked toward Alex.

Once they were back in the hallway, Alex leaned against the wall while crossing his arms and said calmly.

"As you’ve noticed already, she’s fully healed. And if you’re not still fully convinced, you can have the doctors take every possible test. But in the end even they won’t be able to find a single trace of that cancer."

Andre bowed his head deeply and replied.

"I don’t need to do any tests. I can clearly see that my daughter is fully healed. You... You just gave her a second shot at living. For that, thank you sir, I don’t know what I’ll do without my baby girl."

"No problem. But now that I’ve kept my part of the bargain, I think it’s time for you to keep yours, Andre. So tomorrow morning, I want you to resign from your current job, and go to BluePeak Corporation. That’s where your new life will begin."

Andre looked at the ICU doors where his daughter was currently laughing with a nurse, while the doctor was looking at her with a stunned expression, then he turned back to Alex and nodded.

"Anything you want, Mr Walker. Even if you were to ask me for my life at this moment, I’ll gladly give it to you. I’ll make sure to be there tomorrow."

"Good then," Alex said while turning to walk away. "Guess I’ll see you tomorrow, Andre."

After saying that, he slipped both hands into his pocket and walked away with nonchalant steps.

The corridor ahead was beginning to get filled with excited nurses who would occasionally bump against him, apologize and hurry toward the direction he had just left a few moments ago.

It looked like the news of the lily’s miraculous recovery that had just happened not too long ago, was already spreading across the entire hospital.

For a second he thought of what could happen if the doctors found out that he was actually the one responsible for Lily’s recovery. He might even end up on the front page of the papers tomorrow, and would most definitely become a very important person in the health sector, but he dismissed those thoughts.

First of all, just a single dose of body recovery water already cost a whopping sum of fifty Desire Points. So he just couldn’t spend all his important points on healing people.

And most importantly, there were still a lot of more important things he could do with those points, especially in a life and death situation where an item in the desire shop could prove helpful... Though, that didn’t mean he couldn’t auction a bottle or two whenever he needed some cash, since it might take a while for the company to give him his dividends.

[Welp... That was fun]

The familiar playful voice of his system popped into his mind.

[But Alex you should have seen the way your heart was beating like it could stop any second when you thought the body recovery water wasn’t going to work, I almost felt sorry for you]

Alex scoffed internally.

’Yeah, yeah laugh it up. Don’t think I didn’t know you were laughing when I was panicking earlier.’ 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

[Uh... Well in my defense, I didn’t laugh too hard, I only giggled that was all. I can swear to the system god]

[That’s by the way. Alex I just realized you’re becoming quite the manipulative mastermind like your wifey, Nyx. Using a dying girl as an opportunity to gain a father’s loyalty? Truly cold blooded!]

’I saved her life, didn’t I? She gets to live, Andre gets his daughter back, and I get a general for my upcoming business empire. So the way I see it, it’s a win-win for everybody. Besides, I did feel pity for her. She’s just a kid.’

[Pity? Oh Please. If she hadn’t been a beauty or the daughter of someone crucial to you, would you have been so quick to part with those hard earned Desire Points?]

’For Christ sake, system, she’s just a kid! there was no way I was thinking of something like that. And yes I admit her father being a very important person played a huge part, but ultimately I’m not some heartless monster so of course I felt pity for her.’

After a while of walking, he finally reached the parking lot and spotted his white Lamborghini Murciélago in a sea of other cars. Even from afar, it stood out like a king among commoners.

[Oooh~ there she is~] the System cooed. [Our beautiful baby. Come on, let’s take her for another spin before we head home]

Alex chuckled while moving closer toward the car. Then all of a sudden he stopped. The faint satisfaction on his face from today’s success immediately disappeared the moment he got a good look at his car.

"What the hell?!"
