[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 279: Ch : Past, Present and Future
Shuu was in a place that looked entirely white. No matter where he looked, all he could see was a huge expanse of white covering his vision. It was so white that he felt like he was starting to see weird things.
But no, he really was seeing something weird. The small balls around him quickly started to condense, and before he knew it, they had formed small fluffy balls that were pushing at Shuu’s back and telling him to sit down.
He followed that urging and took a seat right where those things wanted him to.
Shuu knew that he should feel scared of what was happening. But all he felt was a sense of calmness as he took that seat.
"I wonder why I was guided to this seat."
Shuu questioned out aloud, but the white balls just jumped around instead of answering him. He was about to get up and leave when he suddenly found himself not being able to move.
Not only did his body not comply with his demands, but it was too relaxed. He had experienced loss of control over his body before, but never like this.
Besides, the white space must have been doing something to Shuu’s mind because he did not even want to think of getting up and leaving at the moment.
All he wanted to do was spend his time in this space and forget about the outside-
’Darn it! I am falling for this manipulation once more. I am not supposed to do that.’
Shuu reminded himself as he snapped out of the daze that was threatening to take over. His clear eyes looked around until they focused on the white chair in front of him.
The owner of that chair walked out not long after. The being was entirely made of white and dressed in white. And combined with everything white around them, it made it very difficult for Shuu to figure out any features on that creature.
The white being did not say anything at first. It simply took a seat in front of Shuu and placed a pack of white cards for Shuu to choose from.
"I do not know what led you to me, weary traveller. But since you are here, I am sure it’s all part of your destiny. Life likely has many challenges for you, but all I can offer you this time is this deck of cards. Now go and choose from it."
The white being spoke softly. In fact, Shuu was willing to bet that the entity was not even speaking out loud and its voice was only in Shuu’s head.
Still, he was curious about this being and what it had brought him, so he extended his hand to touch the cards in front of him.
His hands hovered over the white deck before he unconsciously reached for the ones he felt like he had to.
Shuu’s hand touched three cards, and they gained color. The rest disappeared.
"What are these cards?"
Shuu asked as a white hand reached out to collect the remaining three cards and flipped them.
"These are tarot cards. I can use my power to read these cards and tell you the future."
Shuu looked at the weird shapes on the cards and tried to recall the standard tarot cards that he knew about.
"This...does not look like the tarot cards I am used to seeing."
The entity paused before the pupil-less eyes looked at Shuu with an almost amused expression on their face.
"My dear cards are not from a standard set. Unlike humans, who can fake a reading, my reading pulls from one’s destiny itself. These cards represent who you are as a being. Now, shall we take a look?"
The white being held the first two cards and took a long look at them before dismissing them. Then, he turned toward the last card and laid it out on the table.
"Your past and present are things you are confused about. However, as much as I want to help you regarding that, I cannot do that under the current set of rules. What I can tell you are parts of your future."
Shuu almost called this exchange unfair. His past was one of the things that he was curious about. But it was being treated like some random secret that he would not be able to handle.
Still, he was grateful that the white being was willing to tell him something about the future. Maybe that would help Shuu feel better.
"Your path ahead is littered with thorns, and you are going to lose everything of importance. It is necessary for you to take action first and get rid of your enemies if you do not want unnecessary parting."
The being in white’s words were ominous. Shuu felt stuck to his seat, not being able to move. His face had gone white, and his hands were shaking.
"Are you saying that everyone will die-"
"The things shown in one’s future have many ways to be intercepted. It is possible that it is talking about everyone’s death, but it is also possible it is talking about your death or something else entirely. You can only be sure once the moment arises."
Shuu listened carefully, and in his heart he understood what this being was saying. But that did not mean he liked the meaning behind these words.
"I..."
"There is no need for you to fear. I can tell that you will make the right decision when the time comes."
Shuu watched as the card in front of him faded and the being in white began to fade as well.
"It is time for you to head home. But I will give you one last warning since you still look conflicted-do not let your past become your shackles for the future. If you are going to experience loss, then embrace it with everything you have so that one day, you may get to regain it all."
The feminine voice spoke for the last time before it faded, and the white space began to break down.
