Beast Taming: I'm Really Just a Forest Ranger
Chapter 241 - 163: When the Dust Settles (Part 2)
"So, what do we do next?" Having thought it over, Zeng Hui asked aloud.
Wu Peng supported his chin with one hand, pondering, "Although the farm is temporarily safe, there is still the potential for danger."
"And this Steel-headed Ground Rat is injured and in poor condition; we should stay at the farm gate too."
Saying this, he patted Zeng Hui on the shoulder, speaking earnestly, "Advisor Chen just saved our lives, we must help him guard the farm."
"We might even receive pointers from Advisor Chen."
"I’ll listen to you!"
Zeng Hui’s eyes lit up, and he nodded quickly.
Thus, Iron Head slipped into the shadows, staring at the two people standing like Gate Gods on either side of the door, tilting his head.
They didn’t enter the gate; it seemed he couldn’t chase them away...
The night wind blew, the shadows of trees danced, and hurried footsteps disturbed the tranquil night, startling a flock of birds into flight.
Bright flames suddenly dispelled the darkness, Spark spread its wings and flew out, its body surging with Flame Stream illuminating the road to the foot of the mountain.
The Fallen Meteor Horned Beast galloped forward, its proud and tall figure guided by the flames, while Chen Yuan’s black hair fluttered on its back, his eyes squinted as the dark mountains quickly retreated on both sides.
Half an hour earlier,
Chen Yuan, who had not yet fallen asleep, received several system notifications, including an alert for defeating a Tier Two Pet Beast.
He awoke with a start, looking around; Spark and Cola were by his side, and the Flame-tailed Fox, which could provide him with Source Point, had already fallen asleep.
Where did these alerts come from?
Only one answer— the farm.
Over these days, the little guys on the farm had grown favorability toward him to over 80, able to provide him with Source Point.
No wonder, the little guys didn’t need to worry about food and drink on the farm, nor about survival, and the farm owner treated them very well, with hardly any insignificant work— a nearly ideal life.
Favorability breaking through to 80 was inevitable, just a matter of time.
And so, Chen Yuan quickly drew a conclusion— the farm was in danger.
The danger might come from the scattered wolf pack, or perhaps other wild Pet Beasts coveting the farm’s Spirit Plants.
Regardless of the source, Chen Yuan had to rush back to the farm.
Among the remaining little guys, Run Run Duck was Tier Two in strength, but the others were Tier One, and if faced with a strong opponent, they might struggle to defend alone.
However, based on the system alerts, their resistance seemed decent.
But Chen Yuan couldn’t gamble.
Having already confirmed that the spotted creature was related to this Mysterious Forest, Chen Yuan didn’t hesitate, immediately waking the little guys to return to the farm overnight.
Sending Cola ahead down the mountain, Chen Yuan rode the Fallen Meteor Horned Beast, closely following Spark’s guidance.
The Bear Cub longed for Cola’s sudden departure, leaning at the cave entrance for a while, lowering its head with a deep sound: "Roar..."
This departure might mean a long time before they meet again.
The Flame-tailed Fox and Ice Fox departed together with Chen Yuan.
Sprinting all the way, the system alerts remained silent, making Chen Yuan a bit anxious.
Could the battle have ended, and Run Run Duck and the others repelled the enemies?
Or has the battle reached its peak intensity?
Or has the farm already encountered danger?
Conflicting thoughts swirled in his mind, and Chen Yuan shook his head, deciding not to scare himself anymore.
The urgent task was to rush back as soon as possible.
Cola carried the wind with its swift and agile body, darting through the night at incredible speed.
A breeze enveloped its body, and Cola dragged out an afterimage; in a blink, its silhouette had vanished.
Without any hesitation, Cola sprinted at full speed, steadily revealing the farm’s outline.
"Howl....."
In that instant, Cola’s nose twitched, detecting a multitude of scents.
First the familiar vile odors, then some mixed with the smell of blood.
"Howl!"
Cola instantly became tense, accelerating even more.
Duck, please, stay safe!
The river opposite the farm was already beneath its feet, Cola leaped agilely across, catching sight of a snowy figure floating on the water from the corner of its eye.
"Howl!"
Cola startled, glancing down, only then seeing it was a Snow Cloud Wolf with closed eyes, matted fur stained with blood, constantly washed by the flowing water covering its scarred body.
It truly was those vile creatures!
Calling out to the Snow Cloud Wolf, Cola grew more anxious, quickly heading towards the farm gate.
The farm was quiet, with only the icy wind continuously howling past.
Splayed along the path were several Snow Cloud Wolves, moonlight casting on the ground soaked in blood, along with familiar wing feathers, adding to Cola’s heavier heart.
These were the feathers Duck treasured most.
Duck had two major taboos, the first being the fluffy feathers atop its head, which couldn’t be touched by any creature, or else it would immediately tidy them.
The second being its wing feathers, which mustn’t be touched or stained.
Oh no, could Duck have been eaten already?
In an instant, an image arose in Cola’s mind: a grotesque Snow Cloud Wolf opened its bloody jaws, biting Run Run Duck, its sharp fangs chewing, gradually swallowing Run Run Duck into its stomach.
"Howl howl!"
Cola desperately shook its head, trying to banish that image, and sprinted into the farm’s interior.
Duck, Iron Head, Electric Flying Cat, Bean Chicken, and the old farm owner, hold on!
I’m here to save you!
Cola’s silhouette dashed through the farm gate, heading straight for the yard without looking around.
Suddenly,
A silent figure like a statue appeared in its peripheral vision; Cola instinctively halted and turned its gaze to the right.
"Crack....."
Iron Head nodded slightly at Cola.
"Howl?" 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚
Cola’s eyes widened instantly.
Iron Head, you’re not dead?
Iron Head: "..."
"Howl howl howl!"
Though silent, Iron Head gave Cola hope, and it promptly called out several times.
Where are Duck and the others?
"Crack."
Iron Head pointed to the yard, and Cola howled and sped away, leaving Iron Head silently guarding the spot, constantly vigilant, only the cold wind gently brushing its face.
Not long after,
Zeng Hui and Wu Peng pulled up their pants, yawning as they returned to the farm gate.
The two had stood vigil at the gate for quite some time but saw no further attacks, leading them to feel secretly disappointed.
If there were more attacks and they helped repel the Snow Cloud Wolves, they might repay this favor.
But now, it seemed they could only keep guarding here.
Meanwhile, Cola had already arrived in the yard and immediately saw Run Run Duck and Electric Flying Cat sitting on the ground, surrounded, constantly fiddling with snacks before them.
"Howl....."
Cola’s steps grew slower and slower, until it reached the two little guys, eyes finally wide, full of shock.
It feared Duck and the others were in danger, hurried back at top speed— only to find them perfectly safe, sitting together at night eating snacks!
Had it run here for nothing?
But under the dim yellow yard light, observing Run Run Duck’s messy feathers and Electric Flying Cat’s facial wound, Cola’s emotions surged.
"Howl howl howl..."
Seeing Duck and the others safe in person, it seemed not a wasted trip after all.
At least... at least Duck and the others hadn’t been eaten.
Suddenly, Cola’s eyes shifted as it silently approached the two companions from behind, suddenly dashing with a gust of wind lifting dust, blowing Run Run Duck and Electric Flying Cat to shut their eyes.
Reopening their eyes, Cola had already run off with several packs of snacks in its mouth.
"Dian Dian!"
Electric Flying Cat was shocked and angry, quickly getting up, flapping its yellow thin wings, and chasing after Cola.
"Quack quack....."
Seeing it was Cola, Run Run Duck nonchalantly stuffed a chip in its mouth, then leaned against a Camphor Tree, crossing its legs and watching the ground ahead— dim light casting two shadows in playful chase.
Another tranquil and leisurely day, duck.
