Looking at the lights of Oil City two or three kilometers away, he muttered, "I wonder if that place is where the person who saved me that day is."

The reason he followed along here was for a few reasons.

First was to look for his senior brother. In a place with more people, he could ask around, see if anyone had seen his senior brother and the others.

Second was out of curiosity. The helicopter he'd seen that day made him suspect they were military. Ever since the Doomsday broke out, he hadn't seen any proper Government departments.

Third was that on that day, he'd been rescued from danger by the people in that helicopter. Without those two Bombs from that person, he'd probably have died in that Zombie Tide. Both emotionally and logically, it was only right to find him and say thank you.

Roar, roar!

Suddenly, a burst of Zombie roaring came from behind him.

"Zombies! Looks like I can't go to that little city now. If we get surrounded by Zombies out on the wild plain, that'll be trouble. The top priority is finding a place to hide." After hearing the Zombies' roars, the Taoist stiffened inside and thought to himself.

He walked along the dirt road of the village. Fortunately, there was some moonlight, just enough to make out the road.

He looked around to both sides and saw, a dozen or so meters ahead, a farmyard with its courtyard wall still mostly intact.

So he rushed over.

Thud thud thud~

He pushed off with one foot, stepping on the dirt road, then grabbed the top of the wall with both hands and heaved himself up, vaulting over the roughly two-meter-tall wall.

His body dropped down on the inside, both hands letting go, his feet landing one in front of the other inside the courtyard.

"Huh?" The Taoist rubbed his hands, feeling how they were a bit wet and sticky. Touching it, it felt… kind of like…

"Who's there?" a low exclamation came from the house in front.

Right after, six or seven people came pouring out. They all had wooden spikes, sticks, and spears in their hands, staring at him warily.

Because it was dark, and the Taoist was standing under the wall where the moonlight was blocked, they couldn't see what he looked like.

The Taoist's clothes were in tatters, and in the darkness they took him for a Zombie that had broken in.

"Feng Zheng, didn't you shut the door properly? How'd you let a Zombie get in? This one's on you, you deal with this Zombie." A hoarse but magnetic female voice rang out.

"No way, I definitely shut the door. Look, the door's closed right now…" a younger male voice said.

"Ahem."

The Taoist glanced back at the courtyard wall behind him, then stepped out of the shadows and coughed twice before saying, "Uh. Don't panic, I'm human. There are Zombies outside. I thought there was no one in here, so I came in to hide for a bit."

As soon as he finished speaking, another wave of Zombie roars sounded from outside, seemingly getting closer and closer to them.

The next second, that female voice sounded again. She looked at the Taoist in the moonlight, hesitated for two seconds,

then decisively said, "The Zombies are coming, hurry back inside. This wall was just fixed today, it hasn't even dried yet. No idea if it can hold off Zombies. Move!"

With that, she called to the others beside her to head back into the house.

The Taoist scratched his head, a little embarrassed. He wasn't sure if "back inside" included him or not.

But hearing the sounds of Zombies outside getting closer and closer, he still followed them over.

The woman in the lead was holding something like a Wolf Fang Club. She was just about to close the door when she saw the Taoist walking over and hesitated.

She was afraid that if she didn't let him in and shut the door, the Taoist would bear a grudge and lure the Zombies over.

So she opened the half-closed door. Seeing her open it, the Taoist smiled and said, "Thanks, you're a good person."

The woman was stunned when she heard that. In the moonlight, she didn't know if she was seeing things, but when this Taoist said those words, his eyes seemed to be glowing.

Clear eyes, like clean water, without hatred or resentment—a very pure gaze.

"Nice eyes," the woman thought to herself as she looked at those clear eyes.
