Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 263 - 212: Two Sentences, Three Shocks
Duan Wuhu opened the Golden Cup trunk and took out a folding wheelchair, then said to Zhang Su, "Brother Zhang, there's not much food and drink in the car, but plenty of bullets. You greet the brothers and let them into the warehouse, consider it our fellowship offering, haha!"
Zhang Su walked to the back of the car and indeed saw two crates of handgun bullets. Judging by the recorded count on them, each box had two thousand rounds, four thousand bullets in total, although only the Type 64 pistol can use them, it's still quite imposing!
"Great stuff, haha, someone come and move these to the warehouse, remember to inform Xiaoshan about the entry! Let's go, Teacher Duan, that way."
With that, Zhang Su headed towards the Little Lucky Inn, followed closely by Zheng Xinyu holding Good Fortune.
"Brother Zhang, I didn't dare ask before, but Xiaoshan was the other beauty beside you back then, right? It's truly wonderful that you're all okay. I remember there was also a milk delivery master who went with you. Is he well?"
Duan Wuhu asked as he pushed Fu Weijun's wheelchair.
In Zhang Su's mind immediately appeared Wang Guangjun handing him a carton of yogurt from his bag, his face showed a reminiscing expression, "After leaving Sheng Qin Home, the milk delivery master parted ways with us the next day. He went to the School of Environment, haven't seen him since, hope fate smiles upon him."
"Brother Zhang, be honest, was it you who threw the phone in the underground parking lot on the day we left Sheng Qin Home?" Duan Wuhu asked with a strange expression.
"It must have been me, with so many zombies, I could only use such a crude method, but didn't expect it to just hit a car with people inside, don't tell me that was you guys in the car."
Zhang Su scratched his head and didn't hide the fact.
"Damn it, it was us! Officer Qin wasn't wrong; you were hiding on the third floor, right? We knocked on the door for so long, Officer Qin felt there was someone inside, it was surely you. You guys are all too clever!"
Talking about this, Duan Wuhu sighed deeply, although wearing a smile, his heart felt a bit melancholic; had he chosen to follow Zhang Su back then, perhaps his brother wouldn't have encountered trouble. Unfortunately, these things can't be relived.
"We had new members joining us, so we rested for two more days. Come, let's sit at the restaurant."
Upon reaching Little Lucky, Zhang Su led the two into the restaurant.
"Wow!" Duan Wuhu, much like Granny Liu visiting the Grand View Garden, turned his head, face full of disbelief, "You have heating here?"
"Almost every inn has heating stoves installed, just need to burn them. This mountain has nothing, just plenty of trees, how could there be no heating?"
Duan Wuhu felt envy for the warmth, shaking his head repeatedly, "Things once readily available have become desires now. Brother Zhang, you wouldn't know about life in the alliance; we relied on a single quilt for warmth…"
"It's all in the past now, come, sit." Zhang Su invited the group.
The few seated, Zheng Xinyu didn't mind whether her hands were clean from holding the dog, served tea to everyone, and then left the restaurant.
"Dr. Fu, earlier you mentioned that the transformation wasn't caused by a virus, what exactly is the reason?"
Zhang Su raised his warm tea cup, blew on it, and continued on the previous topic without saying a superfluous word.
"I don't think it's a virus. If I were to define it, I'd rather call this so-called virus an invisible to the naked eye robot!"
"Huh?"
Zhang Su was stunned, chatting with Fu Weijun, two sentences could be shocking three times.
Duan Wuhu, warming his hands with a cup, was also frozen on the spot, robots, how sci-fi.
"I've named it Zombie Robot, Zombie Robots possess very unique and powerful control abilities, they can directly control our brain, corpus callosum, thalamus, pituitary gland, etc., then use the spinal cord to transmit signals to the entire body! But this is just the first step…"
After speaking, Fu Weijun also raised his cup for a sip, rubbing his hands, and continued.
"Apart from hair within the zombies' body, every part has traces of the Zombie Robot, meaning this little thing will follow the spinal cord into every part of the human body, bones, fascia, muscles, internal organs, and skin. You may have noticed, zombies' bodies have higher resistance than us humans; this is also the Zombie Robot's contribution!"
"It has strengthened our skin, muscles, etc., but unfortunately, it hasn't strengthened the brain, the brain remains fragile like tofu; therefore, destroying the brain remains the only quickly effective method for killing zombies."
After a mouthful of words, Zhang Su and Duan Wuhu sat in silent clarity.
"Dr. Fu, what you're saying… completely exceeds my understanding."
Zhang Su shook his head, fingers massaging his temples.
Fu Weijun shrugged his hands, "It's not surprising, it exceeded my understanding too. We just need to know, akin to the flagellum on the end of E. coli inside us, rotating 20,000 times per minute, exceeding F1 race car engine speed, yet it only requires thirty components, energy usage rate almost a hundred percent."
"Even the bacterial cells constantly present within our bodies remain unexplored, let alone this potentially extraterrestrial species. Exceeding knowledge is inevitable, never limit yourself to perceiving it within our understanding, that leads to grave errors!"
Zhang Su thought that a doctorate graduate, faced with unexplainable phenomena, would doubt life, yet didn't anticipate Fu Weijun's stronger adaptability.
"Apparently the more you know, the less you understand…"
This isn't a paradox but because knowing more broadens the horizon, exposing a larger world, naturally raising more questions.
"Mr. Zhang's viewpoint is very accurate, endless learning is not just rhetoric!"
Fu Weijun agreed with Zhang Su's view and continued, "I strongly rejected using humans for transformation experiments, but still participated in eight instances unwillingly, from which I gleaned extremely critical information. Are you interested in hearing it?"
"What the hell, when did you start, weren't there only two people in total used as test subjects?"
Duan Wuhu was stunned, the information Fu Weijun revealed vastly contradicted what he knew.
Fu Weijun raised a helpless smile, "Liao Youzhi wouldn't foolishly reveal the truth to you, doing so would end in overthrow."
"Liao Youzhi?" Zhang Su questioned, "Who is this person?"
"Liao Youzhi is the leader of the Survivor Alliance, quite mysterious, always wearing a black mask like Kakashi…"
"Pfft…"
Zhang Su was amused by Duan Wuhu's words, didn't expect him to know Kakashi.
"True enough, constantly fierce glaring big eyes, anyhow, I haven't seen Liao Youzhi's real appearance, Weijun should have, as a core member of the alliance!" Duan Wuhu shrugged.
"Liao Youzhi acts humbly before core members, but domineering to outsiders, assuming the leader's role, everyone greeting him must call him leader. I've indeed seen what he truly looks like, no different from an average person. I suspect wearing a mask is simply for mystery creation."
Fu Weijun spoke softly.
Zhang Su didn't find it surprising; every leader has their methods of establishing authority, through words, expressions, actions, or small tricks in clothing choices, the simplest being cruelty, utilizing fear for control.
"Dr. Fu, I'm not greatly interested in Liao Youzhi, but very intrigued by your revelations on the transformation process earlier, haha."
Fu Weijun nodded, "Though I only met the eight once, I carry lasting guilt, frequently pondering if without my presence in the Survivor Alliance, those people wouldn't have died in vain. Please allow me a moment of silence first."
He clasped his hands before his chest, solemnly bowed his head.
Zhang Su and Duan Wuhu didn't interrupt Fu Weijun's act.
Silently waited for about a minute until Fu Weijun's silence ended, Zhang Su said, "Dr. Fu, even without you, Liao Youzhi wouldn't halt his experimental pursuit; some things, try to see them openly."
Fu Weijun nodded and continued, "From eight experiments, I documented the transformation process, though owing to limited equipment, much relied on experiential and biological characteristic speculative judgments that might not be perfectly accurate."
"I mentioned before that Zombie Robots have exceedingly powerful and distinctive control capacity, commandeering our brains and bodies, but requires adequate numbers. The process of Zombie Robots invading human bodies doesn't need repeating, but during transformation trials, I discovered another trait of Zombie Robots, division!"
"When activated Zombie Robots enter the human body, they immediately begin consuming various internal cells, while activating self-dividing abilities, the speed very high, yet variance exists among humans. Among eight, the quickest was a middle-aged woman, Zombie Robots replicated one to five, five to twenty-five, each division completing in three minutes approximately!"
"The slowest being an elderly man, division took twenty-two minutes to finish, only able to transform one to two, two to four, four to eight. Due to limited apparatus and few subjects, I couldn't determine division speed correlations, whether it's body variance, or Zombie Robot distinctions, or both."
After finishing, Fu Weijun paused, aware Zhang Su and Duan Wuhu needed time for digestion.
The revelations were shocking yet addressed many lingering questions in Zhang Su and Duan Wuhu's minds.
