Apocalypse Gachapon
Chapter 2134: Silence
This time, even the two Lords could no longer remain seated.
They, along with everyone else in the tent, hurried to the command center—the place where incoming information from the members was received.
Yes, during field operations, except under extremely special circumstances and with authorization from all the high-level commanders, individuals were not permitted to contact warriors in active combat. This prevented many potential problems.
Through years of combat experience, the cosmic races, regardless of size, had formed nearly uniform rules in many areas.
Arriving at the command room, the light-screen map showed that the green dots representing the First Regiment had indeed mostly assembled.
Since this was everyone's first time on this planet, the system could not provide global positioning—there were no satellites to assist.
It was not that the cosmic races could not achieve this; rather, it was intended to train the warriors. More importantly, ostensibly, it was for "fairness"—the large clans claimed it was to train warriors to face the invasion of the Slave Race. In reality, it was a means for the large clans to control the small clans' harvests.
For the large clans, whether or not they had satellites made little difference. For the small clans, however, it was crucial that they could use them for early warnings, targeted hunting, efficient defense, and so on.
The system the Dark Strip City alliance was currently using was one they had set up within the camp themselves. It determined everyone's position through signal towers that transmitted and received signals, but it was affected by terrain, weather, and other factors. Its detection range was limited, and its stability was poor.
Fortunately, the weather was clear today, and the First Regiment was not too far from the camp, so the display was relatively clear.
"Where is that?"
Leona stared for a long time but could not identify where the First Regiment had assembled.
"It should be the narrow passage between two unnamed hills." A communications officer was also uncertain. The location was not a landmark and had no name. Even the two sizable hills beside it were unnamed.
"Is this side… where the 'Double-Tailed Gouwo' are?" Lady Star pointed to a spot only a few kilometers from the First Regiment's assembly point.
"Yes, their numbers there have now exceeded eighty thousand," the officer replied.
"The First Regiment's target wouldn't be them, would it?" Lord Eye said with concern.
Though he felt it was unlikely—Cheng Liujin was a steady man—he could not guarantee that Cheng Liujin might not have some idea. After all, the First Regiment had achieved little in three days. To prevent other races from looking down on the Star-Eye Clan, the Gold Order Leader might indeed take a risky gamble.
"Perhaps it's this side. Look, they're not far from the 'Huandu Wolf' pack either. Relatively speaking, these Huandu Wolves are easier to deal with, right? Their numbers are also smaller, only over fifty thousand now."
Only… Hearing Duoduo say that word, the two Lords' eyelids twitched.
The First Regiment had only thirty thousand warriors!
Were the Huandu Wolves easy to deal with? Those creatures were fast, had sharp teeth and claws, strong teamwork, and were extremely bloodthirsty. Their innate abilities were formidable.
If given a choice, the Star-Eye Clan would rather face the eighty-thousand-strong "miscellaneous army" of Double-Tailed Gouwo than the Huandu Wolves, which fought as a cohesive whole.
At this moment, the First Regiment was indeed not far from the Huandu Wolves' gathering place—about seven or eight kilometers away. Aside from these two mutant lifeform groups, there were no other populations numbering in the tens of thousands nearby.
If the First Regiment's target was not them, then assembling now… meant they were heading back?
Thinking this, everyone looked at the Second Regiment's position. The markers representing the Second Regiment were slowly making their way back to camp.
Judging by the distance, it seemed they would arrive around the same time as the First Regiment… if the First Regiment simply walked back.
"Perhaps we should contact the First Regiment? They shouldn't do anything foolish. If this hunt yielded nothing, there will be another. But if they act impulsively and overreach, it would be irreversible."
Leona spoke. She was not targeting the Star-Eye Clan; she genuinely felt this way.
After all, each regiment was composed of warriors from various clans. Heavy losses for any regiment would be a loss for everyone.
The two Lords exchanged glances and agreed.
At this point, they could not worry about other considerations.
They knew Cheng Liujin was steady, but even he might take a risk for the Star-Eye Clan's sake. And Ye Zhongming was in the First Regiment. They knew that young man liked to walk on a tightrope. Things had been going smoothly recently, so he might act impulsively and take a dangerous gamble.
After all, the First Regiment was not the Bronze Camp or the Gold Camp. The two Lords were genuinely afraid they might not value the lives of other races as much.
Unfortunately, when they tried to send a message…
"The First Regiment is in full communications silence," the officer said with a bitter expression, mirroring the others in the room.
If they were simply heading back, why would they impose full communications silence? This was a clear signal that they were about to fight! By cutting off contact with the camp, they could establish an independent communication network that would work more effectively.
"Should we send reinforcements?"
Duoduo was anxious—his son was in the First Regiment. Leona also looked at the two Lords.
"Wait, they're moving! Everyone is moving!" the monitoring officer shouted. Everyone quickly looked at the screen. The markers representing the Huandu Wolves were the first to move, and very quickly, their target was precisely the First Regiment's position.
The Double-Tailed Gouwo also began to move, though their route was somewhat odd. They first headed in one direction for a while, then stopped. After a pause, they ran off in another direction. By the time they also started moving toward the First Regiment, several minutes had passed.
The First Regiment was also moving, but from the screen, it appeared they had pulled back slightly, though only a little, so it was not very obvious.
By now, even if reinforcements were dispatched, it would likely be too late. If all three sides maintained their current speeds, they might collide within minutes.
"Still, we should send reinforcements. They should be able to hold out for a long time."
Lord Eye sighed. "Let the Fourth Regiment go first. Consider setting out a few hours early. The Third Regiment warriors will stay at camp. After the Second Regiment returns, they can depart. If reinforcements are needed by then, you go. If not… you follow the plan and hunt."
His words carried a note of resignation.
Though he and Star Lady were the overall commanders of the small clan alliance, they could not order others to risk their lives in a desperate rescue.
Duoduo understood why Lord Eye had asked him to send reinforcements—his son was in the First Regiment, so he would give his utmost. After bidding farewell to the two Lords, he hurriedly deployed his troops and departed.
