Chapter 1011: Rena’s Job
"So... you are clueless too?" The president’s expression turned solemn.
Rena smiled wryly. "I’m sorry, Mr. President."
"No. It’s not your fault. But can you explain to me what you mean by ’everything is going according to Clovis’ plan?’ What is his plan to begin with?"
"Yes. I’m here to explain that to you." Rena nodded. "First of all, I’ve received the news that Sir Clovis is in a way intended to let the thieves steal his paintings. However, there was no painting stolen to begin with.
"He has messed with his own house, planted some traces of blood, and even destroyed his own vault to create an image that the thieves have managed to steal paintings from him.
"As a result, people will now begin searching for those thieves to get their hands on the stolen paintings. And they know that seven paintings have been stolen due to the rumors spread in the community.
"However, Sir Clovis will not publicize any facts or the facts that his paintings have been stolen to maintain his image.
"This way, people will believe the thieves are real, and they will begin searching for them."
After learning about the whole plan, the president could somehow agree to this plan. It would definitely work for a while.
"So, fooling the world." The president scratched the back of his head. "I don’t really like the idea, but this is definitely worth a shot. But are there really no paintings?"
"I have asked the same question. There are more paintings, not just seven. However, he doesn’t disclose any numbers. He only tells me he has more paintings, and he can protect them himself in a way that is much more secure than the paintings in the First Academy."
"Really?" The president frowned. On the one hand, the fact that there were more paintings meant more opportunities to get them off Clovis’ hands, simply by acting as his allies. On the other hand, he felt a bit disappointed that he only had one painting, even though there were more paintings. "So, what are you going to do next?"
"I’m supposed to be here, at least getting chewed out by you. Then I have to go there as his agent, begging him to stay.
"Well, in reality, I will be there to just supervise the progress on the logistics and some other things, but that’s what people will see."
The president looked down, contemplating. "Well, what do you think of working as his agent?"
"Well..." Rena rubbed her cheek, feeling a bit embarrassed. "On the one hand, there is basically not much I need to do. He doesn’t really need me that much, so I have a lot of free time to do other things.
"However, when he really needs me to do something, it will be something so big that I will have some problems handling it. All in all, I don’t think it’s bad. No, I think it’s excellent. Besides, he also gives me a lot of tips, and I can also make a lot of connections if I can be honest."
The president crossed his arms. It looked like Rena could stay, and it appeared Clovis had trusted her to a certain extent.
"All right. Assuming I will follow his plan, what does he want me to do next?"
Rena nodded and continued with her explanation. "Sir Clovis would like you, Mr. President, to continue with the search and tighten the border, trying your best to find the thieves.
"This matter can only be known to the both of us for the time being. It will trick anyone who has a funny idea.
"I’m somehow concerned about this, considering the people will be working for nothing."
"No, not actually for nothing." The president shook his head. "On the one hand, we may be chasing something that doesn’t exist. On the other hand, we can still capture those thieves. The thieves who think they’re good enough to steal from the Libation Fiesta or the Hacfield family must have a lot of hidden stash.
"If we can capture them, we can get them. Their possessions are worth a lot, and capturing those thieves will also earn some prestige for the government.
"In that case, I will agree to his plan, but I will also authorize a new task force to catch those thieves."
The president paused for a moment before asking, "Now that I think about it, what about the mansion?"
"Actually, they’re planning to move out. All this time, the Libation Fiesta has been staying in the same mansion for so long. It’s located in the capital, which makes it easier for them to stay connected with Hana Skylark.
"However, the Libation Fiesta has been authorized for the autonomous city, which they’ve conquered. As such, they are going to move their base over there. They have been constructing the mansion for some time, so they will probably go there in a few months once they’re done with their hunt this time.
"And Hana Skylark also has a new branch there, or maybe headquarters? I’m not entirely sure about this matter, but that city will soon be opened officially. A lot of investors are also interested in it, but they’re prioritizing people who want to live in this city."
"I see." The president could understand the reason Clovis pulled this stunt. It was uncomfortable for him, but it might be the best choice. "So, can I get my hands on the paintings? Maybe he has told you anything about those things?"
Rena shook her head helplessly. "I’m sorry, Mr. President. He hasn’t told me anything about it. However, it is clear that just by staying as an ally, it will be more than enough."
"That’s a shame." The president let out a long sigh. "Well, I guess we should get the work done. If you don’t mind, bring me some water first, please."
"Yes, of course!" Rena nodded and walked to the side room to get some water.
The president then took a deep breath before beginning to shout, making people think that he was furious about the paintings.
