Chapter 1980: The Children’s States

Ansel and the Golds saw this too and they appeared next to the babies, and lifted them up to check their states.

"Wuuuu..."

"Oh...our babies are sooo good," Ansel said, controlling the shakiness in his voice and trying to be as soothing as he could. He was holding Pepper, who was nearest to him, and patted her back.

Meatball was taken by Olga, who was also trying to soothe the crying child.

Their hearts were bleeding!

At this, several people kicked the speedster’s body as if the vent, and someone even used the speedster’s now-dead head as a ball before repeatedly stomping on his face.

The adults carrying the children took them away and headed to the hospital to get checked, but then they realized they had grown quiet.

For a moment, they thought they had passed out due to exhaustion.

Until they realized they were burning up.

...

"CHILDREN!"

In the hospital, Althea shot up from her bed with wide eyes.

She gaped, looking around and realizing that she was in an unfamiliar room. Absorbing things for a second, she recognized the place as one of the private wards of the hospital.

She turned to the side and saw that her husband was also unconscious. "Husband..." she said, going to him. He was cold, but fortunately, it wasn’t as erratic as last time.

After sending an aether letter to ask about the situation, she placed a bit of her energy on him, and he opened his eyes soon after.

They did not delay and walked out of the hospital, seeing Ansel, who was to see them.

"You’re awake!" he exclaimed, relieved. He immediately led them to another room. "Your children..."

"What?" The couple immediately understood that something had happened to their children!

With bated breath, their feet were quick, and they opened the door to see the children on their little bed with small railings, and they were both unconscious.

Their cheeks were flushed, eyebrows furrowed, and their little mouths were parted as if they were struggling to breathe.

There were several medical professionals there, healers trying to help them continuously to the point of exhaustion.

The healers would switch whenever the others got tired, making sure that the kids were being sustained.

Althea was thankful to everyone, but she had no mind to voice it out right now. Her emerald eyes were teary, filled only with the image of her children.

"My babies... oh no..."Althea whispered, eyes reddening, and she headed to their beds.

Garan stood at the threshold, jaw hardened, and fists clenched. He took time to breathe in and out, controlling his own temperature to a normal.

"We are unsure what is happening," Volohov said. He was pale, and he was also very anxious. "It’s like the energy in their bodies is going haywire. We only figured to stabilize them with the healers, but it’s not sustainable to do so.

"Not to mention people’s mana is limited; the longer it lasts, the more difficult it is for our healers to stabilize things."

In fact, several healers had already reached potion saturation, so they really couldn’t help anymore, even if they wanted to. They had just been through war, after all, so everyone’s remaining energy was limited.

But even then, Volohov could tell the effectiveness of this temporary treatment was decreasing.

"According to the aborigines, there was also some similarities to energy overdrive, which was the case when a child awakened too early and was unable to contain the energy of awakening," he said.

In those cases, the child might lose their life or their potential. It was much like an electrical overload that ended up destroying the circuit. What adults could do was try to absorb the excess energy repeatedly until the child could adjust, but in the children’s case...it wasn’t possible.

The energy they had seemed a bit different from what everyone else used and, therefore, could not be moved or absorbed by others.

Althea and Garan tried to do the same method, but the effect was minimal. They could understand the principle, but at best, they could only control a small fraction of it.

It was like there was a sieve of sorts, and there was only a portion of the energy that Althea and Garan could take. Fortunately, that portion was enough to calm down the havoc inside the children’s bodies, but they could tell it would continue to increase, and Althea wasn’t sure if their method would continue to be effective in the long run.

"Why... what is happening?" Althea asked her husband, her voice cracking for the first time in many years.

Garan was also shaken, but he knew full well he could not break down. For both of them.

"We will find out," he said, trying to sound as stable as possible. "The children will be okay."

...

The alchemists, the Golds, and many others soon arrived to see the children.

The alchemists had actually been here as soon as they heard the children were ill, but they were observing and also had to wait for the blood test results to come out to conclude anything.

They had a feeling it had to do with their lineage, but there were some differences with the states Althea and Garan had been in before. At least the couple recovered on their own. In contrast, the children didn’t seem like they were able to regulate the changes in their bodies at all.

Zenno had also contacted the Holt royal family during this time. That family was some of the most knowledgeable people when it came to the most mysterious race. Although their knowledge base was still limited, what they knew was definitely far more than most territories combined.

At this point, there was no reason to hide things anymore. Not only could the kids be in danger, but many people had also seen them use their abilities during the war. It was inevitable for this to spread out.

While many might just assume they were special abilities that manifested early, those in-the-know would think more deeply.

Anyway, Zenno had sent the letter even before the war ended, and now, a few hours later, they had received the response.

Hopefully, the city could really help them out.
