Chapter 321: Chapter 321: Nathan Moreau’s Information

"You just watched us kill those mutated beetles from start to finish. You know we’re somewhat capable, which is why you offered to take us to the Prayer Stone, right?"

Nina Jacobs continued.

The Mystic Ice Core wasn’t particularly important to the Bishop Clan anymore. But if she could trick two groups of outsiders into fighting to the death, it was a worthwhile endeavor for someone like Nathan Moreau, who detested outsiders.

Besides, Nina suspected the place was definitely dangerous.

Nathan Moreau stared at Nina Jacobs in shock.

Her mouth fell open, but she couldn’t utter a single word in her defense.

"You don’t have to explain. Just take us there."

Nina Jacobs said.

"Why?

Don’t you want to kill me? Or are you just planning to kill me after I’ve led you there?"

Nathan Moreau asked.

’Even if these people really are friends with Trevor, are there any true friendships in the apocalypse?

They could easily force the location out of me, kill me, and then pretend they’d never seen me.’

"With a local like you to guide us, we’ll get there faster. Besides, we have no reason to kill you,"

Nina Jacobs stated bluntly.

There were plenty of people in the Bishop Clan who opposed outsiders. Even if they brought supplies, they could never win everyone over.

There was no need to drop the pretense or ruin things over one person’s obsession.

"We aren’t dictators. Whether you support or oppose us makes no difference to us."

Nina Jacobs’s expression was indifferent, as if she were speaking of trivial matters to someone who didn’t matter to her at all.

Nathan Moreau frowned, studying her.

’These people really were completely different from the other outsiders.’ 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

Even after Nina Jacobs had exposed her, the others hadn’t come forward to berate her.

It was as if they were used to this sort of thing.

"I did tell Magnus York’s group the location, but only because she used witchcraft to force it out of me.

They should be on their way there now, but they have no idea how dangerous the place is. Now that I’ve told you all this, do you still want to go?"

Nathan Moreau asked.

"We’ve faced plenty of danger on this journey. But to know something’s there and not go after it... now *that* would be a real shame,"

Adrian Shaw said.

Just as Nina Jacobs had figured, he hadn’t trusted this Nathan Moreau a moment ago either.

But now that everything was out in the open, he was willing to take the risk.

"Then what are we waiting for? Let’s get going,"

Leo Hale urged.

He was dying to know what kind of place it was.

"Since you’ve all made up your minds, let’s go."

Nathan Moreau stood up and walked over to Nina Jacobs. "You’re nothing like that woman, Ziegler. I find you much easier on the eyes."

’That woman?’

Nina Jacobs recalled what she had overheard using her Five Senses Enhancement.

Lucasta Moreau had also mentioned someone named Veronica Ziegler.

However, she didn’t press the issue, instead gesturing for Nathan Moreau to lead the way.

"You all saved my life, in a way. Don’t worry, I’ll take you there.

But whether or not you can get your hands on anything is up to you."

Nathan Moreau said as she walked.

She seemed incredibly familiar with the mountain paths, knowing where to step next with just a single glance.

From what Nathan Moreau said, Nina Jacobs learned that she knew about the Prayer Stones because she and Stellan Gallagher had discovered the connection between the stones and the mutated Mawdrakes long ago.

"...Originally, Stellan Gallagher and I just wanted to find all the Prayer Stones and hide them. That way, not as many animals would mutate. But my brother thought it was too dangerous and never approved."

Nathan Moreau said in a low voice. She and Stellan Gallagher had initially snuck away from the clan in secret.

But they never expected to get caught.

"And who is this Veronica Ziegler you mentioned?" Nina Jacobs asked.

"Two months ago, some of our clan members were out scavenging for supplies and rescued a few unconscious people. Veronica Ziegler was one of them,"

Nathan Moreau said through gritted teeth.

After Veronica Ziegler woke up, she showed her gratitude by voluntarily sharing supplies from her spatial storage with us. Because of that, some people in the clan grew quite fond of her.

They even allowed her to stay with the Bishop Clan until she had fully recovered.

"Veronica Ziegler betrayed us. And those people trust her completely. But even though she’s been to our clan, she can’t find the entrance,"

Nathan Moreau said.

After she escaped, she had planned to cross over the mountain peak and head down to the base of the cliffs on the other side to find her way back to the Bishop Clan.

But she was ambushed by those mutated beetles. So, she had no choice but to play dead and wait for a chance to escape.

"So where exactly is this place you’re talking about?"

Adrian Shaw asked. Nathan Moreau had escaped the night before last, which meant Magnus York’s group had a head start on them.

’If we head over now, will we even make it in time?’

"Mornfell contains Drakonia’s largest nature reserve. Ever heard of the Mornfell Tiger?"

Nathan Moreau said, reminiscing.

When the Prayer Stones fell, she and Stellan Gallagher saw it with their own eyes. The largest cluster of meteorites landed in the Mornfell Tiger Nature Reserve on this very mountain.

"The Mornfell Tiger Nature Reserve doesn’t just have tigers; it’s full of other carnivores too. A single mutated beetle here is this ferocious. We can hear the roars of the mutated tigers from our clan’s settlement, even from across the mountain range."

Nathan Moreau didn’t think much of Nina Jacobs and her group’s chances.

"You outsiders are always overestimating yourselves."

Nathan Moreau scoffed. It seemed these people were no different from the others, after all.

’They’re all just here for personal gain.’

"But why are there zombies?"

Beckett Abbott couldn’t help but ask.

’Zombies shouldn’t have been able to make it up this mountain.’

"They did it. You all had better be careful too.

Those people carry the zombie virus on them."

Nathan Moreau’s words made the color drain from their faces.

’They carry the zombie virus with them?!’

"Speaking of which, they brought this on themselves,"

Nathan Moreau sneered.

After that group entered Mornfell, they lost more than half of their people. That’s why they started hiring mercenaries nearby, paying them with high-value supplies.

Eventually, word of treasure on Mornfell got out, and a lot of people started heading into the mountains to hunt for it.

"A few days ago, some people actually managed to find a few fallen Prayer Stones, but they were all killed for them.

To root out the remaining competition, they started using zombies to hunt people down. The zombies are all fitted with tracking devices."

Nathan Moreau had seen them turn living people into zombies with her own eyes.

"We ran into a group at the base of the cliff, actually. One of them was named Alistair White,"

Nina Jacobs said.

Nathan Moreau was surprised. "You actually managed to escape from Alistair White?"

"’Escape?’"

Nina Jacobs didn’t understand why she’d phrase it that way.

’If anyone fled first, it was them.’

"They’re all part of the same crew. Alistair White and Magnus York don’t get along, so they each took some people and split up.

But from what I know, Alistair White never lets outsiders he meets get away alive."

Nathan Moreau had seen Alistair White’s methods. Many of his victims were dead before they even knew what was happening.

’For Nina Jacobs’s entire group to get away completely unscathed...’

But then she remembered how formidable Magnus York’s group was and figured these people were doomed one way or another.

’Since they insisted on going, it was no fault of hers what happened next...’
