Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Heath Chandler’s Decision

Although Jessica Vance fell after just a brief moment, this discovery still left her incredibly excited.

After absorbing the Mystic Ice Core, she realized she could now sense the Wind Element Superpower not just with her hands...

...but with her entire body.

"Very good. I’ve heard that the Wind Element Superpower actually works on the principles of air,"

"and it looks like that’s true."

Nina Jacobs said.

"The principles... of air?"

Jessica Vance frowned in thought. Suddenly, as if she’d remembered something, she began to manipulate the Superpower in her hands, causing it to flip and turn.

Seeing Jessica like this, Nina Jacobs felt relieved.

What she had just said was straight from the Wind Skill Book.

It seemed Jessica Vance was already beginning to understand.

The Wind Skill Book was the system’s latest gift after she had killed Rafferty Miller.

She planned to observe Jessica Vance’s Superpower for a while longer before guiding her step-by-step.

Thinking of Ian Chandler, Nina Jacobs also planned to find an opportunity to copy down some of the content from the Space Element Skill Book.

But when she got home, she was surprised to find Heath Chandler sitting in the tea room with Daniel Hale, drinking tea.

Heath Chandler had come to pick up Ian.

He had also just learned from Daniel Hale that Ian actually still had a room here.

"That boy... I’ve never seen him get so close to anyone else."

Heath Chandler said, watching Ian talk with Nina Jacobs.

Ian hadn’t spoken to him for three days because of how he had questioned Nina at the hospital.

"Really? Ian’s a good kid with a great personality,"

"our whole family is very fond of him."

Daniel Hale didn’t see it that way. In his eyes, Ian was much better than his own son.

At least Ian never talked back to him.

A flash of regret appeared in Heath Chandler’s eyes. "I’ve neglected him all these years..."

He used to think Myra Lawson had raised Ian to be too soft, so he’d always wanted to take Ian to the military for a few years of training.

But Myra Lawson disagreed, believing they should respect their child’s own path of development.

Looking at it now, maybe Myra’s way wasn’t wrong after all.

"It’s not too late now, is it?"

Daniel Hale poured Heath Chandler a cup of tea.

Heath Chandler picked up his tea and looked at the lively scene in the living room.

The lady of the house was laughing and chatting by the sink, washing something.

Leo Hale had spread a map out on the table, and several people were gathered around it, discussing their ideas.

The scene suddenly filled him with immense envy.

"You’re right, it’s not too late,"

"Perhaps staying at City D Base would be the most meaningful thing to do."

Daniel Hale wasn’t very familiar with Heath Chandler, so he asked in surprise,

"Mr. Chandler, were you planning to go somewhere else?"

Heath Chandler nodded. "Headquarters wants me to investigate the situation in Keldorn. I haven’t agreed yet. I wanted to come here first to see Ian and his mother."

When Ian was missing before, he had spent nearly three months frantically searching for him in and around the city where he went to school.

Only later did he learn that Ian was safe in City D.

But at the time, he still had an unfinished mission. He also knew Justin Lawson and Myra Lawson were in City D, so he wasn’t overly worried about his son’s safety. He finished the task at hand before finally making his way here.

"Oh, I see. Keldorn... didn’t they say a base has already been established over there?"

Daniel Hale remembered hearing news about that place.

Heath Chandler nodded. "There is a base, but Headquarters currently knows nothing about the situation there."

"There hasn’t been any news from them for a month now."

That was why Heath Chandler had been struggling for the past few days over whether to go or stay.

But now, here with Daniel Hale, he seemed to have found the answer he was looking for.

By the time Heath Chandler said his goodbyes to everyone, Daniel Hale still had no idea that he had just prompted the other man to make a major life decision...

Nina Jacobs sighed softly.

She had overheard their entire conversation.

’It seems that in this life, there might not be a Tomorrow Base after all.’

She didn’t know if this was a good or a bad thing, but if Heath Chandler stayed at City D Base, it would at least be good for Ian.

What worried Nina, however, was why Myra Lawson hadn’t returned after so many days.

Logically, she was only escorting Samson Thorne back. Calculating the time, she should have been back by now.

「This day.」

After Nina Jacobs returned from outside with the others, she was, as expected, asked to come in for questioning by people from the Enforcement Bureau.

It was still about Nerissa Sutton.

"This is ridiculous. We discovered her together, so why are they only questioning Nina?"

"I’ll go in her place."

Leo Hale said.

He and Nina Jacobs didn’t recognize the people who had come from the Enforcement Bureau.

"I’m sorry, Mr. Hale, but because Miss Jacobs had prior contact with the victim, we can only summon her."

one of the men replied apologetically.

There were two of them, a man and a woman, both wearing Enforcement Bureau uniforms. Since Sherry Renner had given her a heads-up before, Nina Jacobs didn’t think much of it.

"It’s fine. I’ll go and be right back."

Nina Jacobs said.

It was almost evening, and Vera Coleman asked worriedly,

"How long will this questioning take?"

If Sherry Renner were with them, she wouldn’t be worried.

The woman beside him replied, "It should be quick, but we’re not sure."

’Should be?’

Nina Jacobs couldn’t help but give the two of them a second look.

Before leaving, she walked over to Leo Hale and whispered, "If I’m not back in two hours, go find Adrian Shaw."

Leo Hale nodded.

Watching Nina’s departing figure, he also said to Vera Coleman,

"Wayne Warner is with her. When my dad gets back, I’ll have him ask around."

"Your dad..."

Vera Coleman then remembered that Daniel Hale seemed to have a social engagement that evening.

"A social engagement?"

Leo Hale was perplexed. Not because he was surprised, but because he hadn’t heard that term in a long time.

"They said someone in the department is throwing a welcome dinner for Ian’s dad."

"I heard he’s going to be taking a position at our base."

Seeing that her daughter’s figure was no longer in sight, Vera Coleman turned and went back into the yard with Leo Hale.

Nina Jacobs, meanwhile, was taken to a room on the second floor of the Enforcement Bureau.

She noticed that after she entered, the man and woman who had brought her here were gone.

There was a camera in the room.

But what concerned her most was that Wayne Warner had also been allowed to enter the room with her.

The two of them waited in the room for nearly a full hour before the sound of a door opening came from outside.

Once again, a man and a woman entered.

Nina Jacobs had seen the man before at the Enforcement Bureau; he was one of Sherry Renner’s colleagues.

The woman was even more familiar. It was Dawn Donovan.

"Miss Jacobs, my name is Ariadne Sterling. I believe we’ve met before."

The man offered no apology for being an hour late.

He spread a piece of paper and a pen on the desk in front of him, then took out two photographs.

Just as he was about to start questioning her, he heard Nina Jacobs ask, "Aren’t you going to introduce the person next to you?"

"If I recall correctly, she’s not from your Enforcement Bureau."

Dawn Donovan, who had been standing to the side and observing Nina Jacobs,

smiled and sat down upon hearing Nina’s words.

"Don’t mind me, Miss Jacobs. I won’t be asking any questions today. I’m just here as a witness to provide a clue."

’A witness?’

Nina Jacobs wasn’t surprised. She smiled and asked, "You mean... Keaton Sloan?"
