Chapter 251: Chapter 251: Winning Goodwill

The entrance to City D Base.

It was the time of day when the scavenging teams returned, so a long line had already formed for the entry inspection at the base’s gate.

The appearance of a truck was particularly eye-catching.

No one knew who had found so many supplies, and nearly everyone looked over with gazes of envy or jealousy.

Ian Chandler had already walked out from the base.

He looked at Nina Jacobs standing by the truck and approached her with a wide smile. "Need my help?"

"Yeah, your space is huge. Help me put some of this away for now."

Nina Jacobs felt rather resigned.

Having Yvonne Willow go into the base, unload the supplies, and come back out would waste too much time.

So, she had just sent Chase Gallagher to get Ian Chandler.

"No problem. Looks like you had some good luck today."

Ian Chandler hopped right onto the truck and started putting the supplies away.

He didn’t understand why Nina Jacobs wanted him to leave some of the supplies on the truck.

His space was large enough to hold the entire truck, after all.

But he didn’t press the issue.

He put away exactly as much as Nina Jacobs told him to.

"I still think it’d be better to do this somewhere more secluded,

so many people are watching."

Warren Ramsey couldn’t help but comment from the side.

The stares from the surrounding crowd made him uncomfortable.

Wayne Abbott clapped him on the shoulder.

"I can’t figure it out either, but I’m sure she has her reasons.

She’s not like the rest of us."

What they needed to do now was adapt to Nina Jacobs’ pace and methods as quickly as possible.

Warren Ramsey felt his concern was justified.

Because, in the distance, he could already see Hugo Crawford running out of the base with a group of people.

When Hugo Crawford saw the truck, his brow creased into a deep frown.

"Nina Jacobs, what’s the meaning of this? We sent this truck out this morning."

Hugo Crawford couldn’t believe it. ’Someone is actually taking my supplies right out in the open?’

"We found it on the road."

She said it as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Nina Jacobs’s tone was perfectly flat.

’Found it on the road...’

Hugo Crawford and the men behind him never imagined Nina Jacobs would give such an answer.

"Mr. Crawford, by the time we got there, only zombies were left,"

"To keep this truck of supplies from going to waste, we had to kill a ton of them. It took a lot of effort."

Chase Gallagher deliberately explained in a loud voice from the side.

"Impossible! How could that many people all be dead?

You must have killed them for the supplies!"

Hugo Crawford finally lost his temper.

’Nina Jacobs must have done this on purpose!’

"Hugo Crawford, watch your mouth!"

"Do you have any idea how many zombies were there? All sorts of things can happen on the road. You can’t just make wild accusations like that!"

Seeing Hugo Crawford’s hostile tone, Wayne Abbott couldn’t help but retort.

Seeing the crowd that had gathered, Hugo Crawford sneered. "Unexpected situations?

We just traveled that road yesterday. There couldn’t have been a massive horde of zombies!

I say you just wanted to seize the supplies for yourselves!"

That road had been cleared by a rescue team a few days ago.

And the route was remote. Even if some zombies appeared, Rafferty Miller and his men could have handled them.

Just then, Ian Chandler emerged from the truck and nodded at Nina Jacobs.

Nina Jacobs paid Hugo Crawford no further mind, instead walking up and opening the truck’s cargo doors herself.

A considerable amount of supplies remained inside the truck. Seeing the stacks of boxes, many in the crowd cast greedy glances.

Then, Nina Jacobs announced:

"As everyone knows, it isn’t easy to get supplies these days.

Supplies on the road can easily get contaminated or go to waste. Today, our team, Stella, did indeed snatch this truck of supplies from the jaws of zombies.

For our team’s development, we’ve only kept a portion.

Stella is willing to distribute the remaining supplies to all the teams present, free of charge.

We only hope that every last bit of these supplies can be put to good use."

The moment Nina Jacobs finished speaking, an uproar went through the crowd.

They had never heard of a team called "Stella."

But their willingness to share supplies instantly won them a great deal of goodwill.

After all, sharing supplies was something most of them couldn’t bring themselves to do.

"Crawford, they have a point."

"Besides, they killed the zombies and earned these supplies through their own skill. Isn’t that perfectly reasonable?"

Many people who were already on bad terms with the Crawford Army saw their chance and chimed in.

"Yeah, some people just hoard their supplies. Who knows how many people had to die for them to get what they have."

"They’re so blatant about robbing people and seizing supplies. It serves them right to lose some for once!"

"..."

As the crowd murmured amongst themselves, Nina Jacobs had already instructed Leo Hale and the others to unload the remaining supplies from the truck.

"Everyone, each team may send one representative here to claim supplies.

Team size doesn’t matter, but captains have priority."

There were boxes of sliced bread, crackers, and similar items.

Seeing that Nina Jacobs was actually going through with it, Hugo Crawford rushed forward to stop them. "No!

These are the Crawford Army’s supplies! What gives you the right to give my things away?!"

Nina Jacobs sneered.

"What right? The right that comes from us fighting for these supplies ourselves."

"What do you mean, you fought for them? You stole them!"

Hugo Crawford refused to back down.

"Make way, make way."

Leo Hale brought out a laptop. He placed it on a supply crate in the center of the pile and played a video.

It was a video of Nina Jacobs and her team fighting zombies.

From the video’s perspective, you could see a screen swarming with zombies, and in the distance, a truck surrounded by them.

The truck in the video was this exact one.

Hugo Crawford was stunned speechless.

With that many zombies, Rafferty Miller and his few dozen men couldn’t possibly have survived.

"Hey, Crawford! Still don’t believe us?"

Leo Hale set the video to play on a loop.

Everyone present crowded closer to get a clear look. They were utterly shocked, especially after seeing the people from Stella daring to face so many zombies by themselves.

"How is that possible..."

All the fight went out of Hugo Crawford.

But the thought of the crowd dividing up *his* supplies still sent a pang through his heart.

"We’re the Veridian Team. I’m the captain, Leander Lynch."

A rather gaunt, square-faced man walked up to Nina Jacobs and introduced himself.

Even though this was the first they had ever heard of "Stella."

But now, quite a few teams were already thinking of building a relationship with them.

Especially after seeing that short video.

The teams that were already on bad terms with the Crawford Army saw this and also gathered around.

"We’re all from the same base. We hope you’ll all look out for Stella in the future."

Nina Jacobs welcomed them all.

Befriending so many teams at once and leaving a good impression made the cost of the supplies more than worth it.

Besides, she had just scavenged the supplies anyway.

"Nina, Hugo Crawford left, but you should still be extra careful for the next few days."

Ian Chandler reminded her quietly.

He’d heard about what happened in front of Nina Jacobs’s house that morning. The culprit still hadn’t been caught.

He suspected the incident was targeted at either Nina Jacobs or Daniel Hale.

But since his grandfather, Justin Lawson, remained tight-lipped about it, he couldn’t ask too many questions.

"Yes, I know."

Even without Ian Chandler’s warning, she knew Hugo Crawford would definitely make a move soon.

Especially after what happened with Fern Spencer and Caleb Carter taking down the mobile camp.
