Chapter 249: Chapter 249: The Last Straw

The group on the rooftop grew frantic at the sight.

Zombies were swarming all around, leaving them completely exposed.

With those people safe inside their vehicles, the zombies wouldn’t be drawn away.

Besides, if the two vehicles sped up, they could easily break through the side where the zombie horde was thinner.

On top of that, a pack of zombies was trailing the two vehicles.

And now they were all surging toward the rooftop.

"This is bad. We have to think of something. We can’t just sit here and wait to die,"

Rafferty Miller said.

He didn’t want to die. If they missed this opportunity, their deaths were certain.

"As long as we’re alive, there’s hope.

If we can just get them to stop for a moment, we’ll have a chance to escape!"

Rafferty Miller said.

"You want to use the supplies to make them stay?"

Wystan Vance asked.

That truck was filled to the brim with edible supplies.

No one could see that and remain indifferent.

"They can stay for them, but they’ll need to be alive to take them.

You still have weapons. When the time comes, we can just divert this disaster onto them..."

Rafferty Miller’s expression was grim.

He focused his Superpower, sending a Wind Blade slashing toward the truck.

BANG!

The lock on the back of the truck, along with the door itself, was blasted off.

Several crates of supplies tumbled to the ground, exposing the truck’s full cargo to everyone’s view.

The group on the roof stared nervously at the two approaching vehicles.

Sure enough, the lead SUV stopped a short distance away.

"It’s working!"

Wystan Vance quickly pulled a pen and paper from his spatial storage.

He quickly scrawled the letters "SOS".

Combined with the sight of a truck full of supplies, they believed the people in the vehicles would understand their meaning.

"Don’t worry, they’ll come down.

No one can turn down this many supplies."

A flicker of mockery crossed Rafferty Miller’s eyes.

Just then, the SUV’s sunroof opened, and a young man with a megaphone shouted:

"We can help rescue you,

but we’ll need all of your supplies, including what your Space Superpower User is holding."

Leo Hale shouted.

Rafferty Miller and the others were stunned.

’All their supplies?’

’These people are absolutely shameless!’

"Let’s just give it all to them, Mr. Miller.

The supplies will be gone if I die anyway."

Seeing Rafferty Miller still hesitating, Wystan Vance said urgently.

In the last thirty seconds alone, one of their companions on the edge had been dragged down and devoured by the zombies.

"If you don’t agree, we’re leaving."

Leo Hale continued shouting, following Nina Jacobs’s instructions.

Zombies were already closing in on the two vehicles.

Rafferty Miller had wanted to stall for time, but the two vehicles had already started their engines, ready to leave without a second thought.

"Mr. Miller, we don’t want to die!"

"Someone finally shows up to help, and you’re trying to get us all killed, Rafferty Miller?!"

"Wystan Vance, get all the supplies out!

Give it all to them!"

The others around them yelled, their will to live flaring intensely now that they were still alive.

Those two vehicles were their last hope.

Before Rafferty Miller could even speak, Wystan Vance had already stuck out his hand and started tossing supplies down to the street.

"Oh? So they agreed?"

Holden Shaw glanced out the window.

It was just as Nina Jacobs had said. In a critical situation like this, a little bluff was all it took to rake in more supplies.

What he didn’t know, however, was that Nina Jacobs wasn’t just bluffing.

From the very beginning, she had used her Five Senses Enhancement to overhear Rafferty Miller and his group’s conversation.

This included their plan to divert the disaster onto her team.

For people with such intentions, there was no need to show mercy and leave them any supplies.

"Let’s get out."

Gazing at the group of people on the rooftop, who were tremblingly giving an "OK" sign, a smile touched the corner of Nina Jacobs’s lips.

She wanted that truck of supplies.

And she wanted the Crawford Army’s supplies, too.

"Wayne Abbott, you all don’t need to get out.

Just stay safe in the vehicle,"

Nina Jacobs added.

After six straight hours of high-intensity training, Wayne Abbott and the others probably didn’t even have the strength to walk.

That included Wendy Marshall and Yvonne Willow; she didn’t advise them to get out of the car either.

"Okay, we’ll listen to you,"

Wendy Marshall said with a nod.

Given her current physical condition and skill level, it really wasn’t a good idea for her to get out.

By staying in the car, she could also protect Yvonne Willow.

"Captain Jacobs, maybe we should just forget it,"

Wayne Abbott said, looking worriedly at the zombies outside.

It would take at least a full rescue team to handle this.

It wasn’t worth risking their lives like this, even for a truckload of supplies.

Wayne Abbott didn’t want any of them to get hurt.

Unfortunately, Nina Jacobs had already gotten out of the vehicle, so she couldn’t hear his voice over the intercom.

"Wait, why aren’t the people in the vehicle behind them getting out?"

Wystan Vance said from the rooftop, a look of disbelief on his face.

How can the few people who got out of the SUV possibly handle this many zombies?

"They’re probably cannon fodder sent here to die,

just like us. Who cares about them? When the time is right, you and I will make a run for it first,"

Rafferty Miller said with a sneer.

But he was soon stunned by what happened next.

After getting out, the group of six retreated to a nearby wall, but two of the male Superpower Users stood silently on opposite sides of the road.

It was as if they were waiting for the zombies to come to them.

"Mr. Shaw and the other guy... what are they doing?"

Inside the vehicle, Alaric Fletcher asked nervously.

"I don’t know..."

Wayne Abbott didn’t know their intentions either.

Then, just as an increasing number of zombies lunged for the two men, they split up, each running down a different road to the left and right.

"They’re luring the zombies! They’re using a Speed Element Superpower to draw them away!"

Warren Ramsey exclaimed.

This would temporarily relieve the pressure on Nina Jacobs and the others!

"What good will that do?

There are still so many left. Besides, there’s no one else around here. The zombies they lured away will probably just come back soon,"

Althea Coleman said sarcastically.

’How... utterly delusional.’

Indeed, more zombies were now converging on Nina Jacobs and her group by the wall.

Just then, Nina Jacobs lifted the hand she had placed on the ground.

"Done."

There wasn’t a trace of panic in her eyes.

A vast sheet of what looked like molten lava began to flow slowly across the ground toward the opposite side of the road.

The zombies, however, didn’t notice a thing.

The moment one zombie stepped onto it with its left foot, it was instantly engulfed in flames.

Then, more and more zombies walked right into the trap.

BANG! BANG!

Leo Hale used his Gold Element Superpower to lift abandoned vehicles from the sides of the road and hurl them at the zombies in the fire.

The vehicles fell into the flames and, moments later, erupted in a massive explosion.

The people on the rooftop were completely stunned.

"What in the world... is that Superpower?"

’Who is that woman?’

"I know!

She’s Crawford’s arch-nemesis! The one named Hale... no, wait, Jacobs something!"

Wystan Vance said, his expression complicated.

For a while now, there had been rumors at the base about the Crawford Army having an arch-nemesis.

The story was that the whole thing started because of Hugo Crawford.

This rival was a powerful Fire Element Superpower User, and one of their family members was the only Spiritual Element Superpower User at the base.

He never expected they’d run into Hugo Crawford’s arch-nemesis today.

If that truck of supplies fell into their hands, and Hugo Crawford found out about it...

Despite the hot afternoon, Wystan Vance couldn’t help but shiver.
