After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret
Chapter 228: Is That It?
"Everyone on alert! It could be zombie animals!"
Percival Miller commanded loudly.
The only danger Wyatt Vance couldn’t detect would be small zombie animals.
Things like Zombie Rats.
They were what the teams feared most.
Nina Jacobs also activated "Five Senses Enhancement."
The sounds from the ground in the distance gradually grew louder.
"Should we go into the factory building?"
Chester Pearson asked as he walked over to Nina Jacobs.
None of them wanted to encounter zombie animals.
"No need. The factory has too many vents. We’d just be cornering ourselves."
She sensed there were more zombie animals than she had thought.
"Leave it to me,"
Nina Jacobs said. It wasn’t that she was trying to be a hero.
Facing such agile zombie animals was no time for the others to practice.
The slightest mistake could be fatal.
"Alright, we’ll do as you say."
Chester Pearson agreed without a second thought.
Percival Miller was slightly taken aback. He noticed that the moment Nina Jacobs gave the order, everyone from City D immediately sprang into action.
"Captain Miller, Captain Vance, this is Nina Jacobs, the overall commander of this operation,"
Chester Pearson explained.
"By herself?"
After hearing what Nina Jacobs said, the two captains couldn’t help but be surprised.
She actually intended to face the approaching zombie animals all by herself?
They didn’t know the strength of the City D team, let alone the extent of Nina Jacobs’s power.
But they knew their own team members were not in peak condition.
"Since Miss Jacobs has a plan,
we will cooperate fully."
Wyatt Vance shot Percival Miller a meaningful look.
There were three people at the scene who were outside the range of his Spiritual Element Superpower.
Nina Jacobs was one of them.
’She’s definitely not an ordinary person,’ he thought.
Nina Jacobs didn’t hesitate any longer.
She led everyone to an open area outside the industrial park.
She marked out a safe zone in the open space.
Then she had everyone stand inside it while the Earth and Gold Element Superpower Users worked together to create a defensive wall.
"Your only task is to defend,"
Nina Jacobs said.
Everyone said that encountering zombie animals was the beginning of the end.
But today, she wanted to achieve zero casualties.
"Yes, ma’am!"
the rescue team members replied in unison.
A van appeared in the distance, coming into everyone’s view.
"It’s Zombie Rats! So many of them!"
Percival Miller stared in shock at the scene behind the vehicle.
Dust billowed up, and countless black-and-gray things were tumbling across the ground.
A closer look revealed they weren’t tumbling, but were being pushed forward as the massive swarm in the rear scrambled over the ones in front.
"Captain Pearson, is this really going to work?
We’re worried..."
Wyatt Vance’s expression was conflicted.
He was already starting to regret entrusting everyone’s lives to this Female Superpower User he had just met.
But now, the half-man-high defensive wall was already complete.
The Zombie Rats had already noticed them exposed out in the open, and a large portion of the swarm began to break off, swarming toward them from the ridges of the fields.
It was clear there was no chance to retreat.
"Full defense!"
Percival Miller had no choice but to command. They had no other options.
「Inside the van.」
Irene Palmer frowned as she looked at the group of people standing in the open field.
"What on earth are they doing?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Irene Palmer muttered.
’Shouldn’t they be hiding inside the industrial park?’
"There’s someone standing out there alone. Is she a Fire Element Superpower User?"
Icarus Golding stared at Nina Jacobs, who stood alone at the very front.
The ground around her looked strange.
"What do we do now? Keep driving straight?"
Darian Coleman, who was driving, asked anxiously.
He didn’t dare let up on the accelerator for even a second.
If he slowed down even a little, the van would be swallowed by the Zombie Rats behind them.
"Turn. Drive into the industrial park,"
Irene Palmer said.
She knew full well that doing so would only lead all the Zombie Rats straight to that group of people.
But right now, she couldn’t afford to care about them.
"It looks like they’re already prepared to deal with the Zombie Rats."
Icarus Golding kept his eyes fixed on the Fire Element Superpower User.
The closer they got, the more shocked he became.
"Oh my God, what is she doing?
Quick, look at the ground!"
Icarus Golding shouted.
By now, the area all around Nina Jacobs and the people behind her was covered in liquid fire.
The orange-yellow liquid flames had spread out over a three-hundred-meter radius.
But Nina Jacobs wasn’t finished. The liquid fire continued to spread slowly outward in a circle.
SCREECH!
Three hundred meters out, the first few Zombie Rats stepped into the trap.
The instant they touched the ground, their bodies were burned to charcoal.
"’It’s been a while since I’ve expended this much Superpower,’ Nina Jacobs muttered to herself."
After becoming an Intermediate Superpower User, her Superpower Energy was rarely ever depleted.
This trap, spanning several hundred meters in radius, had consumed about seventy percent of her Superpower.
BOOM!
Raging fires ignited one after another all around them.
The tumbling Zombie Rats swarmed in from all directions.
Hordes of Zombie Rats appeared on the ridges of the fields, on the road, in the old drainage ditches, and even from beneath the ground.
Yet, not a single Zombie Rat could survive in this area for more than three seconds.
Even the tumbling swarms of Zombie Rats only served to create bigger sparks.
Nina Jacobs even yawned while standing in front of everyone.
"I don’t know where so many Zombie Rats came from,"
Chester Pearson said.
"Yeah, it’s a terrifying sight,"
Caius Stone added.
"Yvonne, do you have a parasol?"
Nina Jacobs reached a hand back.
"I do."
Yvonne Willow immediately took out a parasol and placed it in Nina Jacobs’s hand.
With the parasol, Nina Jacobs finally felt a bit more comfortable.
The midday sun was too harsh.
"Want some water?"
Yvonne Willow took out a bottle of water.
"..."
Percival Miller and the others, who had just been thinking they were doomed, were now at a loss for words as they watched Nina Jacobs leisurely sipping water under her parasol.
"The Fire Element Superpower... it can be this powerful?"
Wyatt Vance couldn’t help but ask.
A single Fire Element Superpower User was a match for an entire army!
"Mhm, Nina Jacobs is an Intermediate Superpower User."
Chester Pearson’s tone was filled with pride.
"No wonder..."
’No wonder she’s the commander of the operation.’
Nina Jacobs also saw the van that had rushed into the industrial park.
All the Zombie Rats following the van were drawn to the people standing in the open field and turned to attack them instead.
However, the entire area was already filled with Nina Jacobs’s traps.
The Zombie Rat assault only began to die down more than half an hour later.
"Is that... it?"
Percival Miller asked.
Aside from the lingering smell of smoke and burnt things in the air, there wasn’t a trace of the Zombie Rats left.
"There’s no immediate danger for now, but we should still be careful."
As Nina Jacobs spoke, she raised her hand. The remaining liquid fire on the ground suddenly flared up and spread out in all directions!
With a final BOOM, everything around them fell silent.
"My lady, that was a truly spectacular performance."
Just then, a man with brown hair walked out from the industrial park.
Irene Palmer and the others were behind him.
Irene Palmer’s expression, however, was not pleasant.
"My name is Icarus Golding. Might I be so bold as to ask your name, miss?"
"Nina Jacobs.
Are you a foreigner?"
Nina Jacobs didn’t really want to respond to such a cliché pick-up line.
But the name Icarus Golding sounded rather familiar.
If she wasn’t mistaken, this Icarus Golding was probably from Aeridor.
"Yes, I’m from the distant nation of Aeridor, but I’ve been in Drakonia for over ten years. Shall we be friends?"
Icarus Golding said enthusiastically.
