After I Fully Prepared for the Apocalypse, the Ungrateful Cried with Regret
Chapter 226: Cleaner Than a Face
"That’s right, Captain Miller. Why don’t you head over to the solar panel factory first?
You can clear out the zombies over there."
A man behind Irene Palmer suggested.
The man had brown hair and light-colored eyes. His fair skin was dotted with freckles, and his deep-set eyes gave him a hint of foreign mystery.
"I think Icarus is right."
"The Space Superpower User Captain Miller brought is here to collect the solar panels,"
Irene Palmer said with a smirk.
Percival Miller frowned and looked at his team members behind him, who were on the verge of heatstroke.
"Everyone’s exhausted. We need to rest."
"Then you can rest here."
After saying that, Irene Palmer turned and led her group into the cannery.
Nina Jacobs also quickened her pace upstairs.
There was another warehouse upstairs. The system required her to collect 90% of the supplies to complete the mission.
’Luckily, it sounds like they’re heading to the meat cannery warehouse first.’
"I already told Kael that the fruit cocktail from this food factory has been my favorite since I was a kid."
"Kael has already agreed to give me all the supplies here."
"So don’t you worry,"
Irene Palmer said.
"Canned fruit... just thinking about it makes my mouth water."
"Besides, canned goods are so valuable now. We’ve hit the jackpot!"
A student-like boy chimed in happily.
"But Captain Miller and his team didn’t look too happy. What a shame,"
Icarus Golding said.
But Irene Palmer was completely unconcerned. "He lost a lot of his people on the way here, so of course he’s not happy."
"Once I ’reward’ them with a few cases of canned meat, he’ll probably end up thanking me."
"It’s a good thing the people from City D can’t get here."
"I heard the City D Base rescue teams leave practically no supplies behind wherever they go,"
the student-like Darian Coleman said with immense relief.
"Of course."
"Even though this cannery is technically within City D’s territory, the roads are blocked for dozens of kilometers."
"How could they possibly make it over here?"
"Our Falken Base doesn’t lack solar equipment. We’re only collecting the solar panels from that factory so we can sell them to City D at a high price later."
"The ’biggest base in eastern Drakonia’... they’ll still have to obediently buy Kael’s stuff, won’t they?"
Nina Jacobs overheard every single word of Irene Palmer’s group’s conversation.
She leaned on the balcony railing, watching with great interest as the group walked below.
Freebie Mission 42 was complete.
minutes remaining on the Invisibility Potion.
’It’s time for me to go.’
But she couldn’t help but look forward to the expressions on their faces when they saw the empty warehouse.
’Forget it. This is no time to be a spectator.’
In the end, Nina Jacobs climbed back over the wall and left the cannery the same way she came.
In her past life, Falken Base wasn’t an official Drakonian base. Although it received some military support, the one in charge was a Dual Element Superpower User.
She also remembered that Falken Base had suffered a major blow during the great freeze, with tens of thousands of deaths inside the base.
This led to Falken Base becoming a base in name only in less than a year.
’They want to sell solar panels to City D Base at a high price?’
Nina Jacobs didn’t remember if this had happened in her past life, but this time, she wouldn’t let it happen.
Just then, several figures excitedly threw open the doors to the cannery warehouse.
Only to find the entire warehouse was completely empty.
"How can this be?!"
Irene Palmer stared in disbelief at the warehouse, which was cleaner than their own faces. 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
’Who on earth took all the supplies?!’
"The cannery has more than one warehouse. Let’s go check the others."
"Maybe everything’s in that building further inside,"
Icarus Golding said reassuringly.
"Right, the employees must have stored the cans somewhere else."
"Let’s go check, quick."
The group quickly ran toward the innermost warehouse in the cannery complex.
However, the scene before them sent a chill deep into their hearts.
"Three whole floors... all gone."
Irene Palmer leaned against the wall, her strength gone.
"What? The supplies are gone?!"
Seeing the group walk out, Percival Miller and the others couldn’t believe it either.
"No way. The zombies were all still here."
"It took us so long to kill them all. How could someone have taken the supplies before we got here?"
Deputy Captain Wyatt Vance eyed them with suspicion.
"You’re not suspecting us, are you?"
It was only then that Irene Palmer realized they were suspecting her group of taking the supplies.
"Not unless Miss Palmer can give us a reasonable explanation."
"After all, plenty of us saw what happened."
"We’re not fools,"
Percival Miller said.
Wyatt Vance was right. The zombies had all been there, and there were no signs of any being killed before their arrival.
So how could the supplies just disappear moments after Irene Palmer went inside?
"Irene is telling the truth!"
"We all saw it with our own eyes! The warehouses inside were picked clean!"
A girl in her group said frantically, defending Irene Palmer.
"In any case, we will report this matter to the base commander exactly as it happened."
"There’s no need to get so worked up, Miss Palmer. If you have something to say, you can say it to the commander back at the base!"
Percival Miller snorted coldly and led his team away from the cannery entrance.
「A few kilometers away, at the solar panel factory.」
When Nina Jacobs returned, she found Wayne Warner sitting in a shady spot in the courtyard, munching on potato chips.
The rescue team members waiting nearby each had a Coke or Sprite in hand.
"Hehe, there’s a small shop inside."
"It didn’t have much, but I figured I’d treat everyone first."
Chester Pearson had been inspired lately.
’If you want your soldiers to obey, you have to give them a little something sweet.’
The reason Levi Stone was so popular with the team...
...was because he was always giving them little perks now and then.
Nina Jacobs did it, too.
Just yesterday, she had handed out some beer and beef jerky and earned everyone’s unanimous praise.
Chester Pearson felt he had been too rigid in the past.
"Alright, but be careful not to eat anything contaminated,"
Nina Jacobs warned.
There were a lot of zombie animals around here. It would be trouble if the food was contaminated and they ate it.
"Don’t worry, we disinfected everything."
Leo Hale was also drinking a Coke. ’If only Sherry Renner were here,’ he thought, ’she could chill these for us.’
"By the way, did you find anything when you were out?"
Chester Pearson asked.
Ian Chandler was still upstairs with a group of Space Superpower Users, collecting the equipment. Chester had already left a team to protect them.
"I did. A group of people in uniforms like yours is heading this way from the direction of City F,"
Nina Jacobs said.
"What did you say?"
Chester Pearson nearly did a spit-take with his soda.
’What are the Falken Base rescue teams doing here?’
"I wouldn’t know."
"I just saw them from a distance."
Nina Jacobs wasn’t too worried.
Even if the people from Falken Base wanted to take the supplies by force, she had ways to deal with them.
"Alright, pack it up. Get ready,"
Chester Pearson said quickly.
"Captain, what are people from Falken Base doing in our territory?"
Holt Tate asked as he packed up.
This was still City D’s territory, after all.
"What else? To collect supplies."
"But this area was only recently developed. There aren’t many places worth looting."
Chester Pearson had his people stand guard at the main gate of the industrial park.
If the other party was sensible, they could even become friends.
But if they made any other demands, he absolutely would not back down.
"I heard the commander of Falken Base is a businessman,"
Chase Gallagher said.
