Chapter 409: Chapter 379 Dark Spread

On one side was the clever human Spellcaster.

On the other was the cunning inferior demon of the Demon Race.

Now, surprisingly, both sides were thinking along the same lines.

The secret of the Gold Coin was hidden in the dark, but the demon’s game was laid out in plain sight.

"Brother-in-law, maybe we should just drop it, inferior demons are extremely sly and despicable. I was just curious, don’t fall for its scheme," whispered Candy, sensing William’s determination. Although his gaze was still fixed on the position of the magma worm fang, Candy quietly stepped behind William to avoid letting him see his thoughts.

"Let’s begin, Philby. Start your trickery," William said as he stared into the little demon’s eyes, vowing to himself that he must win.

Philby let out a sharp, mocking, and treacherous laugh, like a spider watching its prey caught in the web.

"Pay close attention to where the treasure is located."

Essentially, this was a shell game.

Under one Demon Horn was the tooth Candy wanted, the other two were empty, and Philby would rapidly switch the positions of the three Demon Horns— it was a test of one’s visual acuity.

William’s eyes were wide open, and his face took on a fearsome expression as he focused intently on that tooth.

At William’s signal, Philby made an exaggerated gesture, pretending to clear his throat with his dust-covered fingers, "Well then, Philby is starting now, my guest."

Inferior demons are very short creatures from hell, their legs resemble those of little lambs, always bent, while their arms, similar to those of apes, could touch the ground even when standing. They were born thieves, thanks to their dexterous fingers.

However, Philby’s fingers were even more dexterous.

Rustle rustle rustle.

This was the sound the Demon Horns made as they flew across the stone slab.

The three Demon Horns quickly moved in Philby’s hands, creating afterimages.

William was flustered, Philby’s moving arms even generated a small whirlwind, with its chilling breeze mixed with the stench of the inferior demon’s body mocking the spellcaster’s helplessness.

This inferior demon’s hand speed was like it was cheating.

Lyle secretly pulled up his collar and whispered to Nia, who extended an eyeball tentacle,

"Nia, did you see which corner it’s under?"

"Nia didn’t see, Nia’s eyes hurt, Nia is going blind!" The Evil God’s little cutie refused the difficult task.

Philby stopped the movement in his hands. The three Demon Horns stood erect before their eyes.

"Guess, guest."

William hesitated. Losing a magic gold coin wasn’t a big deal, after all, it would come back on its own, but he couldn’t afford to lose for nothing. In the current situation, he could only step out on luck, and the chance of getting the magma worm’s tooth was only one in three.

His luck wasn’t very good. Oh, how he wished Kevin, the lucky star, were here.

"Guest, please make your choice, quickly, don’t hold up Philby’s time."

The deceitful inferior demon was closing in step by step.

Sweat began to drip from William’s forehead.

"Mr. William," Yino’s voice, like sweet nectar, appeared in William’s ear, his eyes gleaming with confidence, and his gentle smile unchanged.

"Actually, I have ample confidence in this kind of game. May I offer my modest help? I won’t let you down," Yino said as he looked at the short Philby, "Mr. Philby, can the players be changed temporarily in this game?"

Philby’s dirty eyeballs sized up Yino up and down, and with an indifferent wave of his hand, said, "Whatever you want, it’s all the same whoever you change."

William agreed to Yino’s offer, "Then I’ll leave it to you, Mr. Yino."

"Alright, Mr. William, please lend me your Gold Coin."

The magic gold coin, with a gleam of Magic Power, ended up in Yino’s fair palm.

Philby’s gaze was entirely fixated on the flipping Gold Coin.

"This guest, take your guess."

"Wait a moment," Yino interrupted Philby’s gesture, and under the puzzled gaze of the inferior demon, Yino picked up a demon horn without teeth underneath, "I want to make sure that there’s nothing wrong with these three demon horns, and that you haven’t played any tricks?"

"With Philby’s strength, there is no need for such tricks." The inferior demon did not stop Yino’s action, and Yino turned over the second demon horn, which was still toothless.

"So, does the third one actually contain the sharp fang of a magma worm?"

Philby bowed and gestured for Yino to proceed.

Yino picked up the third demon horn, beneath which lay the stained, blood-colored tooth.

"Very well, Mr. Philby, you do indeed show sincerity," Yino said, covering the tooth with the demon horn again, "Then, this lovely gold coin will officially serve as the stake for this game."

Yino flicked the magic gold coin into the air with a bit of force from his thumb.

The coin spun in the air, falling slowly with a beautiful glow.

Philby stared hard, watching the gold coin get closer and closer to him, and stretched out his hands.

Then, right above his head, Yino’s damned fair arm caught the coin again.

"Never mind, I’ve changed my mind, Mr. Philby."

"Ah?" The inferior demon had not yet reacted.

Yino frowned, looking regretful.

"To trade such a pretty coin for that ugly tooth seems like a bad deal no matter how I think about it. We refuse this game and wish you prosperous business."

Without another word, Yino stuffed the lucky coin into William’s embrace and, taking Candy by the arm, quickly left the alley.

By the time William and Lyle realized what happened, Yino and Candy had vanished from sight.

Ignoring the inferior demon’s attempts to retain his customers, the two also left swiftly in their wake.

In the alley, only Philby’s screams could be heard as he brushed past treasures.

William and Lyle caught up with Candy and Yino, who were in fact waiting on the main street just outside the alley.

"Yino, you gave us quite a scare," they said.

"Playing games with a demon is an irrational act; we can’t possibly win. Therefore, flipping the table is the best solution."

William sighed, "Of course I know, but that tooth, Candy really wanted it, right?"

Yino tilted his head, "The tooth is right here," he said with a smile, placing the dust-stained red tooth into Candy’s palm.

"Yino, how did you get that? It was clearly still inside the demon horn, wait, you..."

"Hmm, I stole it while that swindler was distracted by the spinning coin," Yino said playfully sticking out his tongue, "What a fool, he can’t even keep an eye on his own things, and he calls himself a demon."

Lyle couldn’t help but laugh at this.

Yino had duped the inferior demon who intended to dupe others.

It was a marvelous comeback.

With a satisfying outcome, the four of them walked onto the magical portal, laughing.

In the alley, Philby knocked everything from the table to the ground. His expression was less one of anger, and more one of pain and fear. Sweat the size of beans seeped from his wrinkled forehead as the inferior demon curled up in the alley’s shadow, hugging himself tightly and trembling like a ball.

Tears fell with his sobs from his murky eyes as Philby anxiously scanned the surrounding darkness, his head buried low.

"Philby... Philby did what you... what you asked, please take them off Philby, it hurts so much! Philby can’t stand it anymore! Philby is going mad! Please..." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎

The cold, gloomy alley filled with darkness watched indifferently as this pitiful creature whimpered.

Philby suddenly screamed, falling to the ground unconscious.

The cloak wrapping his body was finally lifted.

On the inferior demon’s scrawny back, there was a large rock-like lump, tearing through his skin and growing in his flesh, sucking his blood.

They were a cluster of barnacles.
