Chapter 352: Chapter 322 Salvation Association Files

Mr. Dean extended a finger and tapped the air, and in that instant, the air seemed to solidify, a white brick dropping from midair as though it had once been embedded in the air of the dean’s office.

It wasn’t until Mr. Dean moved his fingers, piercing the thick cover to part the pages, that Lyle realized it was a book.

Written in the language of the dead, it read, "Salvation Association, we are the vines that entangle the world, and the venomous fangs in the rotting roots." Pages turned automatically, dense and numerous words danced on the yellowed paper like dead leaves. He reached the last page.

In the crevice between the paper and the cover, a new page grew out, much like a bamboo shoot sprouting from the cracks in the rocks. It belonged to Mr. Plague Doctor’s page.

"Every member of the Salvation Association has their records noted here; in fact, this is prepared for the next dean. After I die again under unforeseen circumstances, my successor must understand what the true ’danger’ of Andrey is?"

This was reasonable, though Lyle didn’t understand how long Mr. Dean’s term would last, when would Raymond and the others finally blow up this crusty old man in anger?

The job of recording seemed quite primitive; Lyle watched as Mr. Dean picked up a golden feather quill, patiently enchanting each fiber with colorful magic effects.

Mr. Dean threw the quill into the air, perhaps it would drop onto the paper and start writing on its own. Lyle boldly guessed, until that beautiful quill was snatched up by an arm.

Just an arm.

It surged onto the table beside the dean, catching the beautiful quill as if capturing a butterfly. It propped itself up with the broken joints at its end, and within the tattered wraps were a few aureus coins, having bounced out from the pile of coins beside it - an arm of a mummy, at least similar in craftsmanship.

"Greedy Hand, it always takes some effort to persuade it to work for me; only the most beautiful tools can catch its eye. Its original owner was said to be the designer of the pyramids. Whether or not this tale is true, it certainly makes the best clerk."

The Greedy Hand clutched the shiny quill, bowed gracefully towards Lyle, and then quickly began to write under Mr. Dean’s dictation.

[Salvation Association Member, Codename: Plague Doctor.

Threat Level, City-State Crumbler. Given time to develop, threat level could rise to Nation Destroyer.

Andrey member disguised as a plague doctor, followed by a flesh-construct named "Nia."

The Plague Doctor’s own strength is not formidable, but his Spirit Summoning Studies skill can produce a creation called "Hungry Flesh," which can parasitize a Lich, transforming it into an "Impostor." Most "Impostors" lack normal cognitive abilities, showing strong aggressiveness towards everything nearby, presenting a compelling temptation to every Lich and, objectively, making this behavior highly contagious.

So far, there has only been one outbreak of the "Impostor," which, under the tacit consent of many unstable elements, has dealt a terrible blow to the architectural structure of Andrey.

When Hungry Flesh comes in contact with the spores of a Salvation Association member known as the Mycelium, it parasitizes into a new "Mushroom Person." The destructive nature of "Mushroom People" will notably increase, their behavior pattern following the basic needs of both creatures.

There was no intentional interference from the Plague Doctor throughout the riot, but it cannot be excluded that the Plague Doctor might control all "Impostors" parasitized by "Hungry Flesh," hence, "Hungry Flesh" has been classified as a restricted creation.

Communication Level: Communicable. The Plague Doctor has shown a communicable nature rarely seen among Liches, and his position as a student allows for the possibility of direction, potentially controlling the threat through the intervention of several professors within the academy, and he himself has displayed a cooperative attitude towards Andrey.

Special Note, "Punishing Angel" has shown a strong fondness for "Plague Doctor," which perhaps can be utilized to bring "Punishing Angel" under a managed state through "Plague Doctor."

"The Plague Doctor has demonstrated tremendous potential, and the Salvation Association will adopt a proactive stance towards it."

Lyle looked at the ant-sized, dense text on the page, feeling a headache just from gazing at it, reading it was nearly impossible unless with a magnifying glass.

"Is there anything else you’d like to add? Or do you have some questions about the descriptions?"

Lyle shook his head slightly. Just looking at the dense text on the previous page, and his own but a few short lines—a powerful sense of psychological gap, perhaps. What more could he complain about? Wasn’t he a world-ending calamity himself?

The headmaster seemed to notice Lyle’s slight disappointment. After the Greedy Hand stopped writing, his finger bones tapped on those blank spaces.

"This page is yours, Plague Doctor. Your academic assemblies in the future will probably not be limited to just this one time, although I sincerely hope you could be a bit more mundane. But the destructive capacity of Andreyans... always becomes a kind of burden that makes me proud yet distressed."

A small surge of happiness welled up inside Lyle, then he voiced his own question.

"Headmaster, how do you read these extensive texts? They seem to require quite an effort to go through." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

"No need to read them, Mr. Plague Doctor." The headmaster took out several gems and dropped them into the Greedy Hand’s palm as payment.

"The Greedy Hand possesses a unique ability. The texts it writes become a curse."

"The Mummy’s Curse. These texts imbued with the power of curses will, with my permission, turn into an agony that drills into the reader’s mind, etched into their minds, piercing through the skull—unforgettable agony."

Turning texts into agony etched in the mind with a curse, very Andreyan indeed.

Lyle lost interest in the other members’ archives of the Salvation Association.

The headmaster stuffed the completed archives back into the air and clasped his hands together, looking at Lyle.

"Next, as a new member of the Salvation Association, Mr. Plague Doctor, we have some tasks for you to complete. They are what were just written in the archives about ’Hungry Flesh’ restrictions..."

Lyle spent a considerable amount of time confirming the ins and outs of the restriction clauses.

First and foremost, consumption had to be limited; the intake of Hungry Flesh was set just slightly above that of an average human’s and would result in a marked sensation of fullness thereafter—an output to suppress appetite. The speed of food digestion also had to be limited; Lyle suppressed it to the level of human digestion, meaning at most three meals a day. Why use humans as the standard? Because it made it easier for Lyle to measure himself. If an Impostor violated these restrictions and overindulged, it would result in a vomiting response from the flesh, or even a strike. Your flesh would leave the skeleton and choose to flee.

Secondly, the substances ingested needed to be restricted. Because of the taste system completed at the sacrifice of Lyle and Ralph, Liches could discern the quality of flavours. Meat and fats were of course the most welcome flavours. This needed to be suppressed, or it would cause a serious imbalance in Andreyan food reserves.

In other words, Liches could no longer be picky eaters. Otherwise, the flesh would either swell or shrivel to simulate human conditions of obesity or malnutrition, leading to the weakening of taste sensations and physical disharmony.

Hungry Flesh, making the Liches’ appearance closer to that of humans.
