A second chance with my billionaire husband
Chapter 1824 - 422: Each Harboring Schemes, Living Up to the Name (Part 2)
Before leaving the hospital, Yun Ya called Director Su, asking him to take special care of Tong Jia and her child. Director Su quickly agreed, knowing the importance of a call from Dr. Nyx, and gently invited Yun Ya to dine, which Yun Ya declined due to being busy, promising to take a rain check.
After hanging up the phone, Director Su first inquired about Tong Jia’s information, wondering if this woman had significant connections. She had received a personal call from Dr. Nyx. However, after checking her profile numerous times, she seemed nothing more than an ordinary person. Last night, she caused a scene at a charity gala, attempting moral blackmail, which Ji Yunya resolved perfectly. Could it be that Dr. Nyx is caring for this woman to maintain his reputation and image in front of the media and the public?
Regardless of the reason, Nyx personally called, so this woman was to be given special attention no matter what.
Director Su personally ordered that Tongtong be moved to a luxurious VIP ward, complete with professional caretakers, two nurses working in shifts, and the best doctors in the hospital to visit Tongtong. Their meals were top-tier, leaving Tong Jia both surprised and deeply grateful to Ji Yunya.
Upon initially meeting Tong Jia, all those deliberately forgotten memories from past lives flushed into Yun Ya’s mind, leaving her feeling constantly muddled. The intermixed memories of past and present were overwhelming, almost causing her head to explode.
Back at Ji Family Manor, Yun Ya lay down, exhausted, and slept from the afternoon until the next morning. During this time, Aunt Li knocked on the door several times, reheating her meals that had gone cold.
Yun Ya felt as though she had a fever again. She got up in the middle of the night to drink a large cup of water, then promptly fell back asleep.
"It’s almost noon, and the young lady still hasn’t arisen. Could something have happened?" Aunt Li paced worriedly outside the door and finally decided to go inside to check.
The room was draped in heavy curtains, and the young lady lay deeply asleep on the large bed, her cheeks flushed red.
"Miss?" Aunt Li called several times without a response, sensing something was amiss, reached out to check her forehead, only to quickly retract her hand due to the heat.
"The young lady has a fever, she’s in a daze and must be taken to the hospital," Aunt Li turned to call 120, but Yun Ya suddenly grabbed her arm, whispering, "No..."
Aunt Li turned around, noticing Yun Ya hadn’t fully awoken yet, but instinctively held her arm. She couldn’t help but say, "My dear miss, you’re almost delirious from the fever, how can you not go to the hospital?"
She recalled how the young master had suffered brain damage due to a high fever that wasn’t promptly treated. The miss mustn’t make the same mistake.
Yun Ya opened her eyes groggily, stubbornly shaking her head with a childlike insistence, "No... I don’t want to go to the hospital..."
She would never let go unless Aunt Li agreed.
Aunt Li felt the grip was so strong it hurt her bones, causing her to reluctantly comply, "Alright, alright, we won’t go to the hospital."
Having served the young miss for so long, Aunt Li knew of her peculiar habit: despite being a physician herself, the young miss never went to the hospital when ill, rather she toughed it out, dragging it on. Moreover, she frequently fell ill; who knows why the young miss thought this way, perhaps it’s a common trait among doctors?
Receiving a satisfactory answer, the young girl finally let go, slumping back into her pillow, swiftly falling again into unconsciousness, her face alarmingly red.
Yet it looked increasingly exquisite.
Aunt Li placed a towel wrapped in ice on Yun Ya’s forehead. For now, physical cooling was the only option.
Perhaps the coolness from the ice scattered the bodily heat, gradually calming the young girl down, bringing a faint smile to her lips.
Aunt Li sighed with helplessness, gazing at Yun Ya’s sleeping face. Outsiders only see the miss’s glamorous life, unaware of the bitterness of her past. Such a young girl surviving through what was almost like a massacre.
Once, this household couldn’t even be called a home—filled with unrest, relatives harboring sinister intentions; had it not been for the young miss’s intelligence, she would have been left with nothing at all.
Aunt Li paused, noticing the fever had subsided slightly, and decided to brew some ginger tea, the most effective remedy for cold air.
As she departed, the room became utterly silent.
Only the soft breathing of the girl could be heard quietly.
The curtains fluttered; summer arrived early in Jiangzhou. The midday sun was bright and scorching, gently casting its light through the fluttering curtains onto the floor.
Among the billowing curtains, a silhouette appeared suddenly.
The figure was slender, upright, serene, cold, and pure.
The person stepped toward the bed with towering stature, like upright pines, lowering eyes gazing at the sleeping young girl, star-like eyes silently stirred, not rippling.
Yet there was a gentleness emanating like a glimmer in a sea of stars, as though even the sunlight could not compare.
Those eyes were deep like an abyss, obscure like a bitter sea, tightly locked onto the young girl’s delicate face.
He reached out, inching closer to her face, but suddenly recoiled just before touching.
His eyes revealed a trace of sorrow, quickly veiled by a smooth, serene current, as if it had never been there.
At that moment, the figure on the bed suddenly opened her eyes; though sleepy, her gaze was remarkably clear.
They locked eyes; he abruptly turned to leave.
"Am I a ferocious beast? You see me and flee?" A sarcastic cold laugh echoed behind him.
The man paused his stride but did not turn around.
Silence.
Yun Ya slowly rose, rubbing her temples, her head still swimming but otherwise fine.
"Take me to meet her." She spoke quietly.
"Okay." This time, he agreed without hesitation.
Yun Ya’s gaze was startled by his response, but quickly, she was resigned.
"Come to pick me up tomorrow night."
The curtains fluttered, the sunlight was dazzling, and the figure disappeared suddenly.
Yun Ya stared at the sunlight on the floor for a long time.
——
Yun Ya drank ginger tea at noon, ate a little, and once her strength returned a bit, met with the Ji Group executives in the afternoon, appointing a new head of the Angel Foundation. This person was righteous yet savvy, definitely more competent than Chen Tao’s petty cleverness.
After sending off the last visitor, Aunt Li draped a coat over Yun Ya, "Miss, your illness isn’t fully cured, avoid over- exertion; please go upstairs to rest."
Yun Ya wrapped herself in the coat and wandered in the garden, the flowers blooming beautifully; clusters of orchids swayed in the evening breeze.
These were planted by Yun Shu previously; as the seeds fell into the soil, they sprouted and blossomed the following year.
Unnoticed, darkness fell, the moon hung high in the black night, surrounded by scattered stars, blinking like someone’s eyes.
Yun Ya leaned against the swing, smiling while gazing at the sky. As the night grew colder, she sneezed, rubbed her nose, and reluctantly returned indoors under Aunt Li’s reproachful gaze.
——
"Miss, Mr. Pei has arrived."
At that time, Yun Ya was squatting in the garden fertilizing flowers, her hands muddy, and even some dirt smudged on her face, unbeknownst to her, despite the mess, it added a touch of cuteness.
After watering the plants, Yun Ya calmly said, "I’ll head over immediately."
Pei Qinghan had three cups of tea before Yun Ya leisurely arrived. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
"Brother Pei."
Yun Ya sat across from him with a smile, adding some tea to his cup, "New spring tea; how does it taste?"
Pei Qinghan sat straight, with a gentle, smiling demeanor, "Lushan Cloud Mist, true to its reputation."
